Phil drops the transmission from the Burb in preparation for a shift kit install that's coming up (and maybe fixing a flex plate).

Great video and very helpful. The PNRDL switch glue can be loosened with a heatgun. It gets warm but it's another way to make it easier for next time.

when you leave the converter bolted to the flex plate it comes with great risk. You have a chance of scoring the bushing in the pump and damaging the splines on the input shaft, plus tearing the pump seal. takes 10 minutes to drop the pan and filter and 5 minutes to undo the converter bolts. You should always have the converter in the pump when installing. You want to make sure the converter spins freely after you bolt it to the block. If it doesn't and its cocked it will burn out your pump and possibly ruin were the bushing seats in the pump. Then your going to need an overhaul if any debri goes through the unit. All and all, not a bad job.

wow Good job, I have a 1500 1999 I was think about selling it, but that model is so popular and that Champagne silver gold are everywhere so to help out the Community I will part it out , is the Vortech engine a bass LS if so I will rebuild it with the LS mods , there’s a Corvette in my future i’m not 50 yet 50 yr old guys love those Corvettes,

The two piece housing started in 1998. There are a lot of little differences year to year.

How long would you say it takes to do one of these for the first time on a 4x4 model?

@@VeryGoodGarage I had a 96 Silverado 4X4 with a 4L60, I swapped a new Crate engine in, and thought it would be easier to just pull the engine trans and Xfer case, as one complete unit. Well It wasn't. I ended up drooping the transfer case as it kept getting snagged on everything under the truck. Be VERY CAREFUL dropping the transfer case. They are a lot heavier than they look. I dropped that thing on my chest, broke two ribs on each side!!! OUCH!! Once I got the transfer case off ( quite literally off my chest) BTW, DO NOT ATEMPT THIS BY YOURSELF!! Anyway once I got the transfer case out of the picture, the engine and trans slid right out. If I had taken the transfer case loose and dropped the transmission like shown here, I think it would have been about a 4 hour job all in all. Getting them mated back together is a job, as you have to get the torque converter aliened with the front pump on the tranny or you will break things. Hope this helps. Just be careful!!!

I used this stainless steel line that works for fuel and transmission fluid for ~$60, one set comes with fittings, too, and should be more than long enough www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EXXS5NS

What kind of jack is that?

It's this transmission jack from Harbor Freight www.harborfreight.com/800-lbs-low-lift-transmission-jack-60234.html, but it has since died on us and I don't miss it, I would recommend a better one than that. Harbor Freight has a more expensive one that might be a better choice
