Thanks so much. Someone quoted me $500 to overhaul the whole machine. Replaced the roller and the belt for $70. But I had to buy a snap ring tool for $30. Still saved $400 bucks or even more on a new machine.

Replaced my belt and roller wheels, but was not the main reason for all the noise. It was the blower wheel. Would have never attempted to do this repair without your video, great step by step instructions.

Just finished installing both drum rollers with the help of this video. After getting the dryer put back together (getting that belt back on the tensioner is a PITA!), i fired it up and it was still squeaking as loud as before. I pulled the drum and belt and coated the belt with Belt Ease, but just in case that didn't work, I pulled the plastic roller off the tensioner and oiled it's hub and rod. The noise stopped. SO! IIf you're going to go to the trouble of removing the drum to do this job, you might as well lube that white plastic wheel on the belt tensioner. Pull the clip and washer, take the wheel off and put some oil on it. It's easy as long as you've got the drum out of the way. Worked for me! And thanks once again, repair clinic, for another video to help me not pull half a dozen parts that I don''t need to.

Can't begin to thank you enough! During this COVID-19 period when we didn't want to bring any service people into the house, your video showed me how to get into the dryer that had a binding drum. I would've looked all night and not found those two screws at the bottom. Then when I got the front panel and front ring and dust drawer off, I didn't even have to look any further. Some thin cloth had managed to work itself into the fans of the motor in the front. I just had to clear that and it was as good as new. Kept possible COVID-19 exposure out of the house and money in our pockets! Thanks again!!!

My Maytag looks like this and rumbled super loud. I opened it up tonight per the instructions, and found a dryer sheet stuck on the wheel with lots of lint. I was able to use a shop-vac and runs quiet now. Not bad for a dryer from the 90’s.

I would suggest using the repair help section of our website (link in the description). If you input your model number there you'll get a list of symptoms that can cause a rattling noise. A quick look at the list showed that there are a few other parts that could be causing the noise (blower wheel or drum slide). I hope this helps.

This video helped a lot! But I missed or perhaps it was not mentioned when putting on the new belt after the rollers to remove the small panel at the back of the dryer to access the pullies when threading the belt. Way easier than trying to do it by reaching through the front.

Good Job! You make it look easy :) I just did mine. I didn't remove the wiring, after unbolting, I just swung and stood the front panel and the drum panel face to the left. I then took the 2 bolts out underneath the top and stood the top upright giving me complete free access to the inside. I was having trouble threading the belt without being able to see, so I threaded the pulleys first and slipped the belt around the drum as I slid it back into place, (this worked rather well).

Had to replace the rollers today to prevent the screeching. Now I have a little whine but otherwise works fine. Not sure the belts are just getting realigned. They looked in the proper place when I finished the fix. Remounting the belt was a problem. I had to wedge the idler pulley to stretch the spring so I could mount the belt.

You bet! Thanks a mIllion. I got this one fixed, i switched out parts from a Gas Atlantis to repair a 1st generation Electric Neptune. No Kidding. the parts are all the same even though mega years are between them. The neptunes partner ( front end loader) bit the dust a few years back , after 2 full rebuilds. when it died the last time I just gave up and went and got a top loader. This dryers main problem is that the teflon guide up front closest to the door hinge wore down, it didn't make any kind of warning scrapes or anything though, the rivet on the side closes to the hinge had a tiny point on it and it cut through the drum all the way around! no kidding. sliced it like a can opener. I replaced the the drum and also used the whole font mount of the used Atlantis seals and all, even the guides. this machine would probably last forever if the had put rollers in front like the ones in back, a little wider belt and pulley would not have hurt either, and if the tension on the front was the problem, they could have put the front roller wheels on spring tension brackets so that he belt would have something to work on, I am betting the motor would have a much easier time rolling that drum on front and back rollers than it does on those teflon Guides. That just gave me an idea. LOL I could test the theory by making what I just said and mounting them in the remains of the Atlantis. I could always get more parts from my community because Maytag is given away all the time for scrap. I think its pretty funny t hey made zero improvements in over 16 years between these tow models at least. Id like to get a hold of a few more and go through them to see what is up with that.

thanks for the video, i have been able to diagnose my dryers problem. Maytag model MED5700TQ0... the front felt seal/bearing is worn below the red line. everything else appears to be in working order. this seal appears to be about 1/2" thick to start, and is now worn to nearly 1/4" thick. I have looked in the manual, and online for a replacement, and have not found anything. in fact, the user manual doesnot even list it out as a part. any suggestions where i can find a replacement? thank-you in advance.

One thing I should mention is that this dryer is horrendous at drying large sheets/blankets. It turns everything into a tight "burrito" that is wet in the middle and dry outside. I have to take out and restart a king size blanket at least 10 times per cycle, as quickly as 30 seconds after restarting, to keep it from happening. The burritoed blanket is very heavy and falls again and again. I know this can't be good for the drum. I've used up to 8 dryer balls at once to no avail.

How about an example of the noise BEFORE you fix it, for diagnosing the issue. I have a Maytag less than 2 years old, actually just over a year old. It sounds like a a drum riff being played over and over. If this is a bad roller THIS quickly, I am NEVER buying a Maytag again. The one it replaced was a 1970's model!!!!! It worked for about 45 years....

HEY YOU !! ▶️ Is your dryer SQUEEEELING ??? 😫 Well I didn't do all that. All I had to do was get a tube of cheap lithium grease at a Dollar Tree and put it on the front and back of the axle and it hasn't squeeled in a year. Before I tried WD40, and "3 in 1" oil, but it only lasted 2 weeks. Then I got smart. Good ole Lithium grease. Just a little bit. Front and back. Boom. Keeps the 10 yr old wheel in tact. I will say though, the WD40 with a straw may be used prior so that it gets the lint and crud out of the tiny bearings inside, if there are any, but still, you may do exactly what I did. Wouldn't hurt.

metal on metal with no lubricant? How could that be good? Wouldn't you at least put some graphite in the bearing?
@repairclinic
@repairclinic 10 жыл бұрын
Some bearings are not lubricated where the dust and dirt will adhere to the lubricant and cause failure. In these cases the bearing sleeve is usually imbedded with a lubricant to keep it turning freely.
@esven9263
@esven9263 10 жыл бұрын
There are self lubricating bearings. Usually they work by one of two methods. The first is smearing where there is graphite or some other lubricant like molybdenum disulfide lubricant powder incorporated with the base material, usually a polymer, which is worked free by the action and smeared across the bearing surface lubricating the action. The material Rulon is probably the best known of these. The second is usually referred to as a debris systems, where the material that breaks free from the wear of the action has an almost spherical shape which forms a particulate bed to act as tiny ball bearings lubricating the action, this is the case with lead bronze and several other common bearing materials. It would seems like a system of this type would be very high wear but it can take months even years of constant operation for even a thousandth of an inch to be eroded from the bearing surface in such systems, and while they are less effective than smear systems they are even usable with heavy load applications and aren't effected to the same degree as traditionally lubricated bearings by external debris like dust and small metal filings.

Why can't you just pack grease back into the bearings if its just making a noise. If the bearing is not loose and does not move from side to side grease should be all thats needed to get rid of the noise . The noise is caused my lack of grease .

The bearings are sealed but after 10-15 years of service the fine dust /lint makes its way into the bearings. I think adding any oil or grease would draw the particles like a magnet. I think better to just repalce them
