Focal have done well to have 2 different size speaker measure and sound almost identical. Can hear small different in Metal Head, Jazz Con Cajon and Return To The Wild. Not sure how apparent it is in real life. My pick is 65EVO but 50EVO is almost as good. Thanks for the hard work.

Little difference aside from the bass extension and a bit more push in the lower mids in the '65's. I prefer the 65's but could live with the 50's for the $200 price premium for the $65's if money was tight.

Thanks for your amazing content. A couple of suggestions. 1) Blind listening? i.e. don't reveal which speaker is which until the end of each section. Or at the end of the video. 2) Play the exact same song loop on each set of speakers, because sometimes the speaker changes when the song changes section, and it's harder to make a comparison. Thanks!
@DSAUDIOreview

I used to do comparisons like you suggested in point 2 and my current way is much more effective in presenting the differences. As to blind testing, I will consider that. Cheers!
@Astro-X-Ent

Playing the same loop can work and will be more effective I agree, but blind test is something that you can implement just by using your ears only. I close my eyes sometimes and it does help.

I love my Tannoy Gold 7s and my Focal Alpha Evo 50s. I have those two monitors in "Studio B" and they are completely different. You get more bass out of the Tannoys, but you need sonarworks to make either of them sound perfect in a room. The Tannoy Golds have a little too hot mids I've found where as the Focal Alpha Evos are more smooth. The Golds have a real true British sound where as the Focals have their own Focal sound. They are both amazing. You have to decide for yourself in your room what one you like better. Personally I'm more drawn to the Focals as they are a little smoother.

Just brought home a pair of 65 EVOs ... I got them because I am into making beats.. as an older guy who grew up in the UK with all that hip hop.... I listen to beatstars a lot and I can tell you these speakers are in no need of a sub... my audio interface is on 1or less... and that sub bass fills the room.... my apartment is 28 square meters.... you can here the sub more when you move away from your pc chair... I got them for 250€ each New.. which was a steal.. I might just keep them and also get some smaller ones that I can play louder and mix on louder and keep these for mainly checking the mixes... beautiful speakers I can say... I wanted the alpha 65s but he said I can try these out for a couples weeks and return them if I want, so I am giving them a go...
@meanwhileinespoo1265
@meanwhileinespoo1265 Жыл бұрын
Im wondering whether to get a pair of 50s also... the 65 can shake the floor, where as the 50s give strong low end thump but dont sub shake the room... might be a good idea to have both pairs, or the 50s and check that extra sub on headphones.... I have to listen to beats pretty quietly
@meanwhileinespoo1265
@meanwhileinespoo1265 Жыл бұрын
So now I have both pairs here.. same price for either pair.. guy at the shop said I could take them home to try without paying which I thought was very nice... I realised although the 65s are amazing and perfect bass extention, they create too much sub issues in my room... the 50s also create this but because they have less low end its more manageable... as much as I love the 65 I think I will return them and keep the 50s and learn to check the sub bass and kicks via headphones and other systems if possible, maybe should buy a pair of pc hifi speakers that have all the usually boostings to check the mixes rather than struggle with the 65s... dam what a choice to make....

Couldn’t tell the difference between them at all listening to this on my Focal Alpha Evo 50s. Sure the 65s have a little bit of extra low end. Like an extra 5hz at the push but nothing that would make me want to buy the 65s over the 50s. They sound identical to the source material. Could the Evo 50s be the best studio monitors on the market? 🤔
@OneFlow.Cacique
@OneFlow.Cacique 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, the truth is not the only difference, remember that you are listening to an audio recorded and converted to the youtube format, which is 320-bit aac, the quality loss is abysmal, I have 65 evo, and I tried both before buy, I have to say, both are impressive, the 65 evo have a wider stereo image, the bass is deeper, and in general they are somewhat more balanced and linear than the 50 evo, however both monitors are fantastic for the price that each have.

Thanks for the video. I have question regarding input priority between XLR,TRS and RCA.Because info from owners manual not clear. Quote from Focal owners manual. You can connect up to three sources to each loudspeaker via the three inputs available. However, the TRS input takes priority over the XLR input. Warning You can connect up to three sources to each loudspeaker via the three inputs available. The three inputs (XLR, RCA and TRS) are activated simultaneously. To get the maximum benefit out of this feature, we recommend that you power on just one of the three sources to avoid any unwanted sound interference. Unquote. Can you pls clarify how the TRS input take priority over XLR? is it by inserting TRS cable physically or when the input signal present on TRS jack ? I know this is extra job for you.If not possible to reply thats ok . I have plan to use multiple monitors for home theater set up. Thanks in advance
@DSAUDIOreview
@DSAUDIOreview 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what they mean by priority of TRS (probably if you send signal to TRS and XLR at once than you will hear only the signal from TRS), but it is clear that you can connect three sources to three inputs at once, just play one source at the time and you will be good.

@kareljanda3399
@kareljanda3399 Жыл бұрын
I did in a professional mastering studio. Shape's are on another level. Just sligtly better at everything. More details, more dynamics, better stereo field. The music you hear thru them sounds truer and fuller, more balanced. Spent two hours listening monitors from entry level to professional high tech. For me, the Shapes are best bang for the buck. I couldn't find any reason to buy anything more expensive for my hobbyist ears. The price difference of anything remarkably better is not worth if you're not a pro making good money. I'm going with the Aplha series tho (50 evo most likely), as I don't have a well treated room. Might upgrade to Shapes If I manage to move to a studio one day. But the market might change over time. Just saing that the Shapes would be my choice if I would have money and a treated room. Cheers
