think about ELO in classical chess instead. there is a difference between being ELO 2700-2800 GM than a 2500 ELO GM. Just like with any other game, you can be at the top but there is still a big difference at the highest level. There is still a difference in opening understanding, but mostly positional awareness and understanding when to break the "norms" and rules that usually apply to chess
@balthazarbeutelwolf9097
@balthazarbeutelwolf9097 3 жыл бұрын
there are margins - stronger positional play, seeing the tactics quicker, having better judgement regarding positional sacrifices. Whenever a normal GM gets invited to a gathering of super GM (in classical chess) they are either already on the road to superGM themselves, or they get beaten up pretty badly, or both.

Dubov is a super GM, a 2700+ ELO player in all three chess time controls. Eric is a very strong online player, but ELO wise he is definitely in another league. Just consider that Dubov is currently 2770 ELO in rapid (number 11 in the world) while Eric is rated 2579...

Because grabbing pawn takes time. You would give away your move, in some instances 2. You know, chess is kinda 3-dimensional with time instead of height, so if sth is not defended by pieces you see right now it doesn't mean it's not defended at all. Obviously Dubov and Eric understand concept of time very well. I believe there was only one point where grabbing it was good, but you may ask our silicon friend.
