Ducati might have sold a shed-load of 800cc and 400cc Scramblers since their 2015 release, but they’re gunning for an even bigger slice of the retro pie with their big-capacity new Scrambler 1100. But what's it actually like?

coming from an mt09, the torque oomph is just the same, im happy with it. Its not made for top speed and suspension is way better than the mt09/xsr900

2018 Scrambler 1100 63 kW / 86 hp @ 7500 rpm | 88 Nm / 65 lbft @ 4750 rpm | 211 kg / 465 lb | 2012 Monster 1100 EVO 74 kW / 100 hp @ 7500 rpm 103 Nm / 76 lbft @ 6000 rpm 188 kg / 414 lb Where's the 6-8 years of progress? Euro4 strangled one of the finest road engines to ever come out of Ducati. Not feeling this bike at all. The Hypermotard 1100 EVO SP was the finest presentation of this engine, was more dirt friendly than this Scrambler, far lighter too, and cheaper.

2018 Monster 112 kW (152 hp) @ 9,250 rpm 125 Nm (92 lb-ft) @ 7,750 rpm There's you 6-7 years of progress. You're comparing the Scrambler range (retro bikes) to naked-sports Monster models. Apples and oranges mate. Most manufacturers put the same bore and stroke measurements (and therefore displacement) in different bikes, with different peak figures, wrt the segment they are catering.

No, he's comparing the same air cooled 1100cc dual spark motor that's in both bikes. You're comparing a watercooled engine, he is right, the euro 4 regs. are strangling the hell out of it.

Feels like this is more the rightful successor to the original Monsters. It’s not so much a Scrambler in the true sense of the word, but it’s a lovely standard that looks far more appealing and timeless than the current Monsters.

But lets say a Monster 821 which are at fair prices these days the Monster is better looking and more powerful Since this is not a real Scrambler it just seems like a thick cruiser for old men. Timeless mean f-ing old?

Silly question maybe, but why call it a scrambler when it’s clearly a road bike? Anyway, I did give the bike some thought as well as the Thruxton, but ended up with the Kawasaki Z900 RS and couldn’t be happier.

I read somewhere that Ducati said that they started the name scrambler from their 60's bikes... plus this description from bikebandit website: "Now you might be thinking "if scramblers were meant to switch seamlessly back and forth between pavement and off-road, wouldn't the modern day equivalent of a scrambler be...a dual-sport?" If so, you would probably be right. These days, "scrambler" describes more of a look than a purpose; it's a vintage bike style that captures the stripped-down, raw, nostalgic appeal of the scramblers of yesteryear, as opposed to being built to actually shred on- and off-road."

You can bring this ducati off road, but your z900RS modern-made-to-look-retro would fall short with its hugely looking small fuel tank and overpriced price tag on a typical kawasaki inline4 on normal steel chassis and generic brake/suspension/electronics.

How times have changed. This Duke makes more power than the BSA/Triumph all-out Daytona racers of old and as much as the Honda four-cylinder that won Daytona in 1970, yet it's considered somewhat anemic now. It likely has more power than I could ever safely handle.

i know late to the reply, but one of the reasons I've continued to pass on the Scrambler 1100 is that it makes a lot less power than the DS1100 it's derived from. I was hoping for a 2023 update on that front, but I guess not.

I recon the Euro4 has neutered the dickens out of this 1078 motor. I remember taking the Monster 1100 out for a spin back in the late 2000's and it was a lot of fun, especially with Termi's. Wonder if the animal can be woken up in this thing with the usual tuning work....

2 totally different bikes. I traded my Monster 696 in for the Scrambler 800 last summer and wish I had done it sooner. The Monster is a great bike, but not very comfortable and not a relaxing ride. I never felt like I could just lazily cruise around town or quiet roads with the Monster. It always felt like it wanted to be at full throttle. Nothing wrong with that if that's what you want, however, if you're looking for a more relaxed ride that is still sporty and far more comfortable go with the Scrambler.

In my opinion, this is such a crap idea. People are too obsessed with upscaling everything! If you wanted more then Ducati had other, bigger bikes already filling this gap, e.g. like the monster. The whole appeal of the original Scrambler is that it had great, manageable, unintimidating power and appeal. Doing this to the Scrambler has meant losing all of that ‘simple-pleasure’ appeal of the original; and they’ve gained nothing that you couldn’t have already found in pre-existing bikes in Ducati’s range. Bigger isn’t always better.

Im fortunate enough to own a Scrambler Desert Sled and a BMW R9T, the scrambler is as flat has a witches tit in it's present form and really quite boring to ride, the R9T pulls like a schoolboy the engine is so much better across the power range Ducati need to give these bikes around 100 BHP in my opinion just to get you out of trouble if needed.

86 bhp and 65 lbft from an 1100cc twin is frankly a bit pathetic ....... KTMs new 790 Duke twin costs £2,000 less, weighs less, makes more power and torque and also has all the electronic bells and whistles .. including a 2 way quick shifter with auto blipper - does the Ducati have one of those? ;)

I was expecting more from Ducati with this new big brother Scrambler, as in more power, more sophisticated suspension, less weight, greater fuel capacity, I’m a bit disappointed in reality. I think the new Triumph Scrambler 1200 will set the standard for this class soon, if the spy shots are close to a production accurate model with adjustable Ohlins suspension etc.. hopefully the actual production model isn’t too diluted.. time will tell.. I’m sure Ducati will sell loads of these! No doubt a Desert Sled will follow, maybe some of the deficiencies will be addressed with that model? Pose on posers!
