My favorite bike. Looks, motor, brakes, suspension and performance make this just about the best ride available. Only problem is, it’s not in my garage.

How does the bike make you feel when you are riding it. Perfect question that almost no one asks, thanks. Bloody fantastic is how it makes me feel. The pride in ownership is sky high. It is versatile and a joy to ride. The exhaust note when backing off the throttle, kind of a gentle backfiring, is priceless.

Very good, complete review! My two questions are; how do you only get 86 HP out of an 1100 and what is going on with that gauge cluster, eek?
@KingCast65
@KingCast65 6 жыл бұрын
I actually dig the cluster; dig the bike. Yes it should make more power than my '06 MTS but alas, it seems to be the same engine with new paint LOL. Who cares, really. The goddamn bike will still fly. At 53 I don't need all the fucking speed anymore, just want a quick scoot. Sure I'd love to have a 916 or something as a second bike but you know day in day out, come on.

You nailed it. I've seen the Special version of the Ducati 1100 Scrambler and it looks and feels great. Though the BMW R9T is also a contender. Both excellent on paper but it will be just about what feels better to me on the road. I prefer the styling just a nudge on the BMW but the Ducati can be a funner ride. We'll see. Thanks for the review!
@Yeahbuddylightweigh
@Yeahbuddylightweigh 6 жыл бұрын
Ricardo Gomez the boxer engine weight distribution down low would definitely make it a better handling bike. Trumps it on engine power as well 115 hp and 125 nm
@ricardorgomez
@ricardorgomez 6 жыл бұрын
Yes but there's also suspension, braking, power, ergonomics and most important of all, how you feel when you ride it. There are motorcycles I've owned that weren't as good as the competition that I absolutely loved to ride. I'm sure there are plenty of other riders that feel the same way... I'm glad Ducati came out with a larger version of the Scrambler. It will definitely appeal to many.

Low rev limit + long stroke means more power low down and higher peak torque. Also it’s an air cooled engine limited by the damn EURO restrictions :/. You can tune them with a new exhaust to get around the restriction and it really opens them up.

My 650 with 72 hp is plenty fast for the streets and it makes me look at smaller bikes like the Ninja 400 as I have quite the heavy right wrist, this bike with 13 more hp and who knows how much torque definitely is no slouch, but people these days are spoilt with all the high powered bikes I guess.

I had a 2011 Hypermotard 1100 which was essentially the same engine, it was rated at 95 hp. Is Euro4 to blame for the loss? 86 hp is pathetic for an 1100, especially when compared to the r9t which is also air cooled.

Yah it's basically the same as my DS 1000 MTS -- which is flashed with Termis. Whatever the case it's never going to be as fast as my Triumph liter bike Triples, but at the same time it goes like the wind, and I just love the torque characteristics and the way the bike FEELS just a bit more than the Triumph overall.

"It only makes 86 horsepower, it's not going to set your pants on fire". The legendary 1972 Kawasaki Z-1 made 81 horsepower at 8500 rpm and weighed 542 lb (246 kg) wet. The Ducati Scrambler 1100 makes 86 horsepower at 7500 rpm and it weighs 454 lb (206 kg) wet. Something to think about. Times have changed and so have expectations.

From mcn I understand Triumph have a 1200 scrambler on the cards. But to me the main attraction of these scramblers is that they are standard (ok slightly old fashioned looking) bikes with round headlights, curvy tank, comfy but not laid back seating, and strong but easy going nature. Any offroad ability is unimportant. But you do need some performance. So instead, Triumph should put all those features around a Street Triple R engine and frame - and sell for less than £9.5K. Not some heavy but low power "new" Bonnie 1200 twin.

Surely it becomes more of a street bike where the original 800 is lighter and more fit for being thrown around off road what most buyers that fall prey to the dealer strategy of overselling you. They also end up with far to much weight for off road when a 650 adventure bike is an ideal weight sweet spot for balance

I dont get how they cant squeze out more power from an 1100cc engine? I know it is not the same engine but the Panigale 1199R has almost 200hp... The Suzuki SV1000 (twin) from 2004 has 120hp (102Nm) and that isnt supposed to be a sportbike, just a bulletproof commuter.

Looks like my perfect bike all round. If Yamaha would have brought out a more powerful and better kitted out MT03 660 (think Duke R) I reckon it would still be selling in shed loads rather than being dropped (the current MT03 is a totally different machine that happens to have the same name). That original Mt03 was ahead of the pack when it came to this style of bike but it lacked popularity because it was considered underpowered and the components were too basic. I had one for 5 years and those criticisms were valid but it was still a really fun bike with the potential for Yamaha to upgrade it into a truly great bike. A missed opportunity imo.

@SuperBikesince1977
@SuperBikesince1977 6 жыл бұрын
It's not. I did it because those roads in particular were like ice when they were wet. We don't get long during press shoots to get to grips with the corners we're shooting on and it's not like we can just go looking for somewhere else to ride if a corner is wet (it's the way press launch photography and video works). I opted to drag a foot because I felt more comfortable doing so. You should do whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. Hope that helps. John

Excellent first ride review. However, I feel that bike launches are a bit like going out on a first date: he (or she) is on his best behaviour, and doesnt put a foot wrong, laughs at your jokes, is polite, but shows a spark of charisma, etc. What we all want to know is - what is it like to live with? We know that he (or she) may fart, we know we will have to put up with morning breath, but are there some deal breakers that we dont know about? Ducati has a mixed reputation in terms of living with a bike: expensive maintenance, unreliable (compared to UJM), and can be high maintenance - somewhat akin to dating a supermodel (I can only imagine, and no disrespect to supermodels - I am sure you have delightful personalities too). Anyhow, I have a beautiful committed relationship with my UJM - she is low maintenance, doesnt complain when I leave her out in the rain (or snow) , and treats me like a king on the open road. Of course, I respect her, and dont push her to the limit, but she is a comfortable ride and keeps me safe. She would probably be upset if she knew my motorbike internet history, but its OK to look, not touch. Isnt that true love?

I have been under the impression that 1100cc is too much for a newbie but this bike seems as though it has a more balanced motor with less hp and torque than most 1100's. I want something that handles well and is easy to ride and has the appropriate power. Doing my due diligence

I also like that this bike only weighs 417lbs. Verses the R NineT which is more than 70lbs more. I am a stout 205lb man. I would appreciate any advice you may have. Thanks

No thanks.....I'll stick to my Ducati Desert Sled. I can't believe the bhp is so minimal for nearly 300cc more and with the added weight too??

Those output figures are pretty pathetic for an 1100cc V-twin ..... a KTM 790 Duke parallel twin makes both more torque and power :/

True but I'd say that this has more usable power down low. Smaller cc with high power is normally achieved by revving the shit out of those twin cam engines.
