Dulux Quick Dry Satinwood and Diamond Satinwood side by side review.
My review of both these paints, giving an unbiased view in the review.
Is the Diamond and better than the quick dry paint?
Are you using these paints, what do you think to them?
I'll tell you what I think to both the Dulux Quick Dry and Diamond Satinwood paints, both of which are water based and the brushes do wash out very easy.

Bedec advance Primer is fabulous as it gives the perfect base. Their satin is nice and their gloss is as good as it gets for water based on the second top coat. I now use Crown PX4 as bonding primer. Dulux diamond eggshell (Jan '24) for interior work, covers well and finish is spot on but always three coats over anything other than pure white. Thanks for the comparison, got me thinking hence my comment.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Gradually going through them, I think the Dulux Diamond eggshell shows that Dulux may have listened! Actually got some Aqua Guard to try , I spoke to a rep at Brewers and he was insistent that acrylics need to set properly for the next coat, so your video of Aqua Guard drying over night would appear to be best practice. I have to sneak time to watch as being at home there are other 'duties' . Will watch more. You're a great presenter and I like your dry humour!

The other thing is how easily paint cleans out of a brush. Sadolin Superdec is probably the worst culprit on this front , isoproyl alcohol, hand soap, 'brush cleaner' nothing touches it and brushes are toast . Sometimes paint choice comes down to availability too. Just saw your review on Allcoat and Frenchchic. I use the former as it does say it has a 15 year guarantee and when the client has just forked out five grand for scaffolding the paint has to stay put. The frenchchic I must try when appropriate. Really good that you're doing these comparisons like for like, really saves us time.

Next paint I will try is Sikkens BL based off how you prized it. I bought the Dulux Quick... because the previous house owner used lot of Dulux (based on the leftover cans) and Little Greene. If you want to hear something wild, I bought a house in USA 2012, one of the previous owners deciding to do some painting, would mix all his random paints together before starting. The professional painters I hired in USA where all Benjamin Moore only type of people, never heard of B.M. before, now see they arrived in UK in 2015. Thanks for the honest review 👍

Hi, I have a question what is the need for undercoating walls and woods rather than just putting 3 coats on of the normal paint? is there any advantage to using the undercoat. Another question what benefit would you get from using an undercoat rather than using a cheap contact matt and then applying one or two coats of that to lighten a surface then using two coats of the finishing paint. Im thinking more for already painted walls.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
you're referring to wall emulsion primer coats prior to emulsion finish coats.... not woodwork paints like in the video?? (woodwork) Undercoats are there to give a sound base for the subsequent follow on top coats, using the same brand/make of paint for a 'Hand in Glove' will give better results too and less likely to get compatibility issues between paints, the Uc helps adhesion on the top coats. Just like a primer for bare wood or surfaces is advised which soaks in to the substrate, that then gives the base for working on with the Uc, then top coats. similarly so emulsion paints are more suited to have a wall/ceiling primer (undercoat) applied before the 2 finish coats. F&B have a wall/ceiling primer that can be applied first, this does work. I think it's slightly cheaper too than using the top coat emulsion paint. I wouldn't be using cheap contracr matt paint to be saving a few pounds now better primer/undrcoat paints are out there.
@LiamM0510
@LiamM0510 Жыл бұрын
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yeah sorry I did mean more so for walls rather than woodwork it’s just this video brought it in to my mind. I just always wondered what the gain would be from using for example optiva primer on walls that were already coated over either going straight on with that topcoat paint or if it was a dark wall using a contact Matt then topcoat. I understand the woodwork side of it as often working with trickier surfaces or paint types.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
Optiva primer is for bare plaster. If you have good printed walls, two coats of the chosen paint should be fine. As said, f&b for a wall/ceiling primer with does act as a great base for their colour range.

Phil been in the construction industry over 35 years and done a fair bit of painting in that time. I do not consider myself at all a decorator. Can I ask your advice I have purchased a Dulux trade weathersheild exterior quick drying satin in a dark blue. I decided to use some of it to paint an old wood table top because I liked the colour. I have tried 3 different mini rollers and a brush but still can’t get a smooth looking uniform finish. I sanded and primed the top but now it’s had about 4 coats of dark blue ontop and still looks patchy. Any idea how to get a good finish on the top coat. Just for clarity I did not buy the exterior paint for the inside table but thought it should be reasonably hard wearing to use once it’s cured. Thanks I’m advance
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
Hi. Should be ok. What rollers have you used? Have you tried a 2 fussy Blokes 5mm roller yet? Add a bit of water to it and see if that helps flow better. There are paint additives that keep the paint easier to apply and work. But try some water first. Sand down what you've done once it's dried though.

I absolutely detest the Dulux Diamond range both the satinwood and the emulsion, terrible paint to use and apply. I have used the quick dry retail version and it's not a bad paint to use on new builds where all the woods are being primed. In regards to the diamond emulsion, give it a swerve, I find Dulux Easycare to be a much better alternative if the customer absolutely must have durable washable paint.

End of the day you can not beat oil base on wood. water base for walls oil for wood. 38 years time served as a decorator also I'm a Dulux select decorator city and guilds plus Nvq 1,2 so I had the unfortunate experience of using that quick dry satin and tell you now don't buy its terrible! If you are willing to use it make sure you check for runs about 15 mins in otherwise your gonna be doing a lot of re sanding and re applying . water base will never be as solid as oil base, and never flows of your brush like oil. the end.

If you’re trade, I have no idea why you choose any of their products over the likes of Isomat, Moore etc. The general public have no idea what constitutes a decent paint. Valspars existence is proof of that! Dulux dropped the ball years ago with trade paints. There are too many better manufacturers to ever need to go back to them.
