Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood, is it any good.
Let me review this satinwood and tell you what I think to this Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood.
I'm going to give you an honest opinion of it, as I've tried a few paints now and want to see how Diamond Satinwood rates against other paint.

I'm really glad you've done this vid Phil, I've been banging on about lack of opacity in ALL our paints for the last few years to anyone who'll listen! The manufacturers are being ham strung by the big environmental green dream and we're not only paying for it but we're suffering a lack of quality in what we're actually paying for. I packed Dulux in years ago as they seemed to be the worst offenders although I did use an o/b undercoat and gloss a few weeks ago that the client was insistent on supplying. It was truly awful, terrible opacity and dried too quickly so I struggled going back over it to lay it off. It dried like a pastic-y finish and although the customer was deliriously happy, I wasn't. Like yourself, I moved over to Tik after trying so many different brands. I have accepted though, that woodwork is now a 3 coat system minimum and price in for it. As soon as I've finished my massive vat of everall aqua I'm going to give the Benjamin Moore a go. Thanks Phil. 👍

Glad you’ve done this review mate. I’ve recently done my HSL in diamond satinwood over yellowed Dulux oil based satinwood. Like you I tested it without an undercoat first…. Found you could still see through it even after two. Looked a little grinny. I then applied the undercoat first… then two diamond satinwood coats over the top…. Solid white. Really is best with the undercoat to give it the opacity. I did roller my doors to be fair which when thinned out a tad did help massively. Used two fussy blokes short pile roller. Finish is superb… but I will whole heartedly agree with you using the diamond satinwood straight over yellowed or bold colours is a bit crap. Thanks for your video mate! I need to try scuff x

First reaction to Diamond Satinwood was that it was nasty, then as it dried I noticed how well it settled, melting brush strokes away. It does go on with difficulty compared to other paints & needs more coats but after about 4 coats, I love the smooth finish thanks to how it settles. I’m not a pro, so I can take as long as I want, and this will be my go-to for wood now.

Hey Phil, another great vid. Thanks. I having been looking for a two coat satin finish for a while.(no undercoating) I did quite like Diamond satinwood only because it did give a hard finish. It passed the scratch test. But I agree it's not the best for application. I tried the Everal aqua 40 and the zinseer interior satin. I loved the way they went on BUT neither passed the scratch test(two topcoats, no undercoat.) So are you saying the best two out there right now in your opinion are the Benjamin Moore scuffx and the Bedex MSP? What do you actually use on a job right now?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
hi. the BM scuffX, it's the first time in trying it.. as you saw. Yes very good. Almost fully covered over the black.... so would need a 3rd for me to be 100%. If looking at three coats.. most stuff won't cover dark colours.. so we're back to square one lol At the moment... using the Isolac aqua Satin (primer and two top coats) also usingteh Bedec Aqua Advanced satin.. Uc and two top coats. On an outside we've used two coats of Bedec MSP.. soft Gloss & the soft Satin (white and also black) very impressed. Used that over AllCoat exterior!!

Hi. They've not been in touch yet lol Intact 40 I used years ago when it first came out, the day after it's release. I tried it out on all the woodwork and bedroom furniture in my own bedroom. Have to say that Haftprimer is some bloody good gear. Like an old fashioned o/b undercoat when sanding back, just beautiful. I've also recently tried the Caparol NAST in my HVLP and it does reduce overspray considerably. I'm yet to try the PU Satin but have a can on the van ready to go!

I have used the Diamond Satinwood for a few years. I find I have to be very careful as it can run very easily, so I tend to put it on thin, make sure the brush marks lay off and then just leave it. I use Purdy Monarch Elite brushes which did improve it, but can still be caught out by the runniness of the paint. I may well try the BM stuff and see if it's less of a technique to get it on nice and flat.

I never got on with water based paints, but, that said, I always used Dulux. I used their gloss...still wet/tacky after 4hrs! Didn't find the satinwood all that hard wearing... So I gave up using them. These reviews are great... It's nice to see others having the same problems, I thought it was just me! Used the zinsser allcoat gloss the other day, brilliant. Just enough time to work it in, dried quickly. Not rubbery when you nibbed it off.. (like I've found MSP to be). My problem isn't that I don't like water based, it's that I don't like Dulux water based range... Thanks Phil!

Hi Phil. I use the Dulux diamond satinwood when clients want a WB finish. I ve used it over old oil but I apply a coat of the Dulux quick dry undercoat on then two coats. On new wood I’ve applied one primer, filled, caulked, then second primer then two coats diamond satinwood. I can’t say I have a problem with it. I tend to use a Staalmeester sash brush and a Staalmeester 4inch roller for applying. No issues , turns out nice.

@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Жыл бұрын
Who knows... Maybe the cop out to say the soft satin is more an eggshell. Soft gloss is more a satin lol Joking apart, we used soft gloss on fascias and under eaves and have to say it was a nice looking gloss... Without being like an oil gloss. Oil paints always seem to dull down anyway. So might as well start off with a soft gloss anyway. Anything too glossy shows up bad woodwork too. The flatter the better on some woodwork outside I say ;)

subbed the channel thanks for the vid. have to say i dont buy dulux unless a customer asks for it and even then ill try and get something else mixed in the dulux colour. the quick dry takes minimum 2 coats often 3 and even then you cant roll it whereas the johnstones aqua looks nice with 2 coats brushed, it lays off nicer and brush marks disappear as it dries. i havent tried the tikkurila one yet though i use ar2 all the time. having said that ive just done a ceiling today in dulux and it looks better than the johnstones vinyl matt which does sometimes show roller marks.

Sand it back down. Apply a coat of Caparol Haftprimer. Then two coats of Caparol Pu Satin.. or gloss, which softens off to a nice more shiny satin finish. Besides Scuff X coverage being better than Dulux there are loads more benefits besides.It seems to go further than any other paint.1 tin will last you for several jobs. 1 average room maybe £15's worth. It seems to stick to the brush like glue and never drips.I often paint skirtings and door frames without any covers on carpets.Its also not a brush killer after cleaning up like some paints.Finally it gives a lovelly smooth finish . I think Dulux diamond satinwood will have to go into room 101.
