Not only did he do it again, he did it when we had our guards down. The D&E novellas are supposed to be light, short stories to flesh out the universe. I mean The Hedge Knight's only setting is a tournament, when in ASOIAF the tournaments are recalled in single sentences across the whole series and that's it. It was supposed to show us what the knight culture was like when they weren't at war, and GRRM goes "THINK AGAIN MOTHERFUCKERS! YOUR FAVOURITE GUY JUST LOST HIS BRAIN TO HIS BROTHER'S MACE"

same here^^ when i read it, i didn't knew that much about the whole universe but i knew that once there was a king named baelor who built the sept in kings landing, so i was stupid and thought it was the same baelor and because of that it absolutly blew my mind! i was 100% sure he that he wont die, he will be king🙈

Especially after the pep talk baelor gave at the beginning I figured he was safe because he was going to face the kingsguard

Though Aegon V was humble and truly good, just. he was AWESOME. i cant STAND viserys though. so i wonder if i would have been turned off if i knew it was him beforehand. halfway through the first novella, brightflame said something and i was like "holy crap, thats viserys voice!!" lol looked it up, and there ya go. harry lloyd but using viserys voice for aerion was perfect. on the other hand, his voice for dunk was so charming. vulnerable. humble etc great narration!

Its the first time in YEARS I've been able to read for pleasure not study so i'm like half way through book two of ASOIF. Perhaps the tales of dunk and egg will be a nice break before embarking on book 3. Its kind of lucky reading them now when we're only one season/2 books away from the end. You sort of know what to look out for as foreshadowing for the last season. And theres too much of it to isolate. Very precisely selected adjectives and metaphors even for the smallest of moments.

The prequel should start with the blackfyre rebellion. After 2 or 3 seasons it should start with dunk and egg during the reigns of aerys and maekar.

Done,ignored, lol. I got both replies at the same time any way so i read the last one first. I believe he(Rickard) still followed the old gods. Theres some good posts out there about the southron ambitions. It struck me as passing strange that Rickard had golden spurs, it just didnt seem like a Northman would guild his spurs so they looked nice. The other Northern Knight that interests me is Ser Rodrick Cassel. His house sigil is pretty interesting. Its 10 white wolf heads on grey with a black border. I had a theory that it had something to do with the Nights Watch. White wolf on grey would be the reverse of Stark(i know its wolf and not Direwolf)and could be similar to the Blackfyre sigil being reversed. It could have something to do with Starks or Stark bastards(Snows) going to the Wall. Jon's been called the White Wolf on the show but ive never read it in the books so there is no book evidence

Rickard's southron ambitions were likely to unite the Starks with the Royal house as well as with southron places like the Riverlands, the Vale and the Reach. Rickard wanted the Starks to have a stronger footing in Westeros, one supposes. Had Brandon married Catelyn Ned might have been married off to someone equally noble to shore up alliances.
