I have read Dune several times throughout the years and consider it my personal favorite Sci-Fi book. Frank Herbert's writing is very cerebral and it takes time to truly appreciate his stories. The original Dune is probably the most easy to follow of the six original novels, but if you can keep with it, I find the continuing Dune saga very rewarding. Though many have criticized the add on Dune books written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, I have found them very satisfactory. They are written in an easier-to-read style and with more action. For those who love Dune, I recommend combining and reading all the novels in chronological order, starting with The Butlerian Jihad. It really opens up the vast history of the Dune universe and the companion novels fill in a lot of gaps left in the originals. In fact the Dune saga continues. I have pre-ordered the first in what is to be a new Dune trilogy of books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson: Dune: The Duke of Caladan (The Caladan Trilogy).

If they made at least the first six books in a series, published like that - I'd get them in a heartbeat. It seems for now, such sets are only available in paperback.

I opted for the Penguin Galaxy edition. It's in print at the moment so you can find it for cheap, but also the cover is very nice (good colour and I think its minimalist style fits the nature of the book). Pleased that you made a review of this though, as initially I was interested in this version.

@@dongoul Absolutely. It sits quite distinctly on the shelf, the cover itself is striking I think, and the print quality of the pages are fantastic. Feels like a collectors item even though it technically isn't.

I read Dune years ago (like 40-45 years ago). A very original novel. The B&N edition is the nicest one I've seen out there. I have it on my shelf and mean to read it again. I've seen the Penguin Galaxy edition. It looks beautiful but I was disappointed to see that it has a glued binding.

Hi Denis! Ah, ah! I like the B&N revival, I kind of missed the "shelf arranging"; ) Well done mate, usual super presentation (I tried mine but kept it only a few hours for how horrible it was, but I won't give up. Strange how difficult it is to find the right words while you're filming!) Cheers!

Is there any chance that B&N will release the other five books to match? That would be awesome, especially since I think this is the most beautiful release of Dune to date. I'd even be okay with them combining Messiah and Children like how SyFy did for the miniseries.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that no. No chance, or a very low chance. Only just enough audience for this one, even so, not sure it's had more than one printing.

I also haven't read Dune, well I started to back in high school from a library copy but I said that this was series that needed to be in my own library so I put it back and waited to buy my own copy!😅 There are quiet a few different versions of the first book and a new hardcover being released next month! I like the new mass market paperback covers of the rest of the books that just came out (probably because of the movie) but it would be weird to have a nice version of the first one next to the small paperbacks. Great video keep up the good work! 😀

In a slight support To the David Lynch Dune it has Sir Patrick Stewart saving a pug dog. Though in defense for the rest of the movie I have none, for the Baron they Butchered him in the movie ( not really just the Adaptation) sorry if this gave anything away for the book or movie. Though I would highly recommend to read the book before the movie.

@@FoolishFishBooks I would think Lynch's Dune looks more like a comedy looking on it, in the same way the 1980 Flash Gordon is like a comedy.

I had the first edition of Dune in hardcover. In 1993 my girlfriend’s best friend brought her 4 year old to our apartment and while I was at school the 4 year old tore the cover off and ripped out pages! It was so upsetting especially considering how much I paid for that volume.

Lovely edition 💜 I wasn’t aware of the Barnes & Noble Edition of books until recently even though it turns out that I have two of them somewhere in the house. I haven’t read Dune either mainly due not knowing it existed. The romantic literatures of the 1700s and 1800s seemed to managed to go through censorship in the 1970s Republic of Indonesia, but not this sort, oh no sir, perhaps in case the populous were tempted to engage in critical thinking.... Who knows. Have you seen the FS edition? There are a couple of folks showing that one here on YT. How would you compare the two? PS: Ooooh One Thousand and One Night, whose translation?

I actually liked Lynch's version of Dune. I think it didn't do well because because it's too much of a massive undertaking for a two hour movie. It needs to be done like Jackson's Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit with a trilogy of 3 hour long movies. It won't make sense if it isn't done this way.

WHAAA? You haven't read it? Dune is an absolute classic! I've read it several times. I remember the original Dune movie. It was an admirable attempt for such a complex book. Not sure why people trash it like they do. The movie might look dated but at the time it was remarkable. The casting was well done. I recall the theatre handing out Dune booklets at the showings. The booklets explained what various terms meant. The movie was really for people who had read the books and could follow along. I find people either love or hate this book. I love it. 💗

I've heard by many people that this version is chock-full of typos. Also, this version is made with bonded leather, not full real leather, so it won't last super long unless you barely ever put it through any wear.

Nice cover, but to me this isn't worth it. There are no illustrations, the paper is too thin (an issue in itself, but also relating to the quality/ durability of the block binding), and the gilded lines of the cover are not embossed (meaning that gilding will go away much more quickly). I have never seen this for less than £50 which, for this, is excessive. I have bought Easton Press books for less than this, not to mention Folio Society and older Franklin Library books; and I grabbed B&N's Sherlock Holmes leather-bound for just £3 in a charity shop about a month ago. So, for £50 and up (frequently over £160, in fact) this is just highway robbery.
