So if you use the wet area tape with adhesive no natural cure silicone is required as a bond breaker?

Hi, we want to tile a low height splash back in front of our kitchen sink. The kitchen bench is granite stone, the wall behind the sink is painted gib, it's a new kitchen, but unfortunately we didn't re-gib the room and there is a tiny amount of water damage getting into the gib from water on the bench from the kitchen sink. I think the gib is older gib so it's not very water resistant. What would be best product to try and seal the edge between the painted gib and the granite bench prior to doing a low height tile. Thanks.

Hi @kiwijunglist - The most likely product to use would be Dunlop Tile-All Plus. We don’t believe it will stain the granite and it would have a reasonable chance of adhering to the painted surface. However, ARDEX/Dunlop do not generally have recommendations for products being applied onto painted surfaces so this application would be considered unwarrantable .

Great video,under the tiles in the bathroom we have plywood not concrete can you still use this product on plywood?
@DunlopBuildingProducts4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, DUNLOP do not generally recommend waterproofing over timber substrates. It is common practise to screw-fit a fibre-cement sheet (CTU) prior to priming, waterproofing and tiling. If you were to waterproof directly over the Plywood substrate, I would suggest it should be primed first with either DUNLOP Rapid Bond-Coat or DUNLOP Damp-Proof Waterproofing. Our preference would be for DUNLOP Damp-Proof Waterproofing ( 2- coats) then application of the DUNLOP Express Wet Area Tape prior to waterproofing with the DUNLOP Express Wet Area Waterproofing.

Is that drywall or backerboard/cement board hat prep is being performed on?

Hi Esha, The Dunlop Express Wet Area Waterproofing system can be applied to: Internal Fibre-cement wall sheet, compressed fibre-cement sheet, wet area grade plasterboard, concrete (cured for min. 28 days), internal structural plywood (PAA branded) including marine or wet area grade only (the shower area must be sheeted using ceramic tile underlay), renders and screeds (cured for min. 7 days) and internal AAC blocks and panels. Please review the product page and datasheet for more information: dunlopdiy.com/product/dunlop-express-wet-area-waterproofing/

I know you say NOT to use silicone for the bond breaker between where the floor and wall meet - if you use a neutral cure silicone, is this OK to still use your tape then ? I only plan on fixing our leaking shower once so would rather use both silicone and then the tape over it to be 1,000% sure and safe. Would rather OVER do it then cheat and under do it.
@DunlopBuildingProducts3 жыл бұрын
Hi Grant, a neutral cure silicone does not need to be used in wall/floor or wall/wall junctions if the Dunlop Express Wet Area Tape or Dunlop Pro Rapid Tape is used. You can still use the neutral cure silicone if you wish. The silicone is used when the Dunlop Reinforcing Mat is used in place of the Dunlop Express Wet Area Tape or Dunlop Pro Rapid Tape. The Dunlop Reinforcing Mat is embedded in the first coat of the membrane.

@@DunlopBuildingProducts thank you. I was more asking in the sense of should you NOT use the silicone of using tape and vice verse. It’s just the way the wording is on the Pro Rapid Tape box, it says tape isn’t required but as it doesn’t specifically say ‘do NOT use silicone due to incompatibility’ etc I wasn’t sure if you could use both to be safe, you know - for extra protection .... I’m not doing this bathroom again in any time soon 😬 would rather over engineer it once than under engineer and do it twice 😁😉👍

Hi @@grantdavenport2036 - not a worry. The system we believe you are referring to does not require the use of a bond-breaking silicone. You are able to use the silicone if you wish to. There will be no adverse reaction with the Pro-Rapid Tape.

is this flexible tape or bond breaker tape or reinforcement tape?
@DunlopBuildingProducts3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, DUNLOP EXPRESS WET AREA TAPE is a self-adhesive sealing tape that provides a waterproofing seal between the surface joints of the floor and wall, under shower grates and outlets in wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens and laundries. Use in conjunction with DUNLOP EXPRESS WET AREA WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE for a rapid, total express waterproofing system and tiling can commence after 4 hours. Using this tape in conjunction with the DUNLOP EXPRESS WET AREA WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE meets the standard for waterproofing according to the Australian Building standards. The tape is flexible and it is used instead of a bond breaker.

Can the tape and membrane be used for joints of an exposed balcony and paint over but without tiling over?
@DunlopBuildingProducts4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dat, Dunlop Express Waterproofing membrane used with the tape cannot be painted over in an external environment.

Are you going to screed over that floor because it doesn't seem to be a fall..
@DunlopBuildingProducts3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, we generally recommend that waterproofing be installed over a screed in order to create ‘falls’. It is however, common practise in the industry to apply membranes under screeds. This practice is allowable in Australian Standards who state that waterproofing can be placed both under and over screeds.

Wouldn’t the puddle flange area be higher now?
@digita1heroАй бұрын
Yes, my thoughts also. Do you need tape around it if it's all siliconed underneath the puddle flange? Would just the membrane be enough?
@Ninja_Drummer3 жыл бұрын
What the hell is with all that tape? Cant see how that helps?! If there’s movement in the structure what happens to the tape and membrane?
@DunlopBuildingProducts3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Dunlop Express Wet Area Tape is a highly flexible alternative to the use of silicone bond-breakers and reinforcing mats for all junctions when waterproofing a wet area. Its use will speed up the waterproofing process due to fewer steps involved. The use of the tape with the membrane will accommodate any movement likely to be experienced within any standard waterproofing situation.
