Since the announcement of the Coyote in 2010, the Ford performance world has obviously been happy to enjoy something better than the old 2v and 3v 4.6L motors. Over the years, the Coyote engine platform has had a lot of changes, improvements, upgrades, and special-edition versions. From the outside, the changes to the Coyote engine are largely not visible.

Crystal clear in visual and audio. Well done! Now to comment on the content. Very informative and covered the entirety of the Coyote variants.

Sorry, but a talking head video is as basic as it gets. Adding random stock footage that doesn't illustrate what's being said actually makes it worse, I'm looking for a visual connection and not finding any. That just makes the viewer tired for no good reason. As for content, reciting bullet points just shows how some things are better left as written words. Why waste eleven minutes on a video when I could have read the words in three? Video should add _something_ to justify its existence, this one doesn't. I totally agree that putting long title sequences on content that has no union talent is also a waste, and if I never hear Chinese disco music again, it will be too soon. But absence of a couple really bad things is not the same as good production values.

I have 2 of them in late 90s f150s. The 4.6 2v. But just 1 simple bolt on supposly add 100hp!😲😲 an even shows this on dyno's so must have some truth to it. But just add some twisted wedge 180,190 or 205 heads. Dyno was on the 180s an unlock a 100hp. That is absolutely crazy!! I'm going to try this on the old f150 an see how bad she become 😅

One variant you missed is the Aluminator 52 XS crate engine. I still want Ford to produce (while they still can) a 7 liter version of the Aluminator crate engine. Build it with the big bore and short stroke of the 427 that won Lemans, but make it a modern, bugger version of the Coyote and Yeah, it would take a whole new block and be very expensive. But an almost 900hp naturally aspirated engine would be a real hit with hot rodders.
@177SCmaro
@177SCmaro 3 жыл бұрын
A 7 liter Coyote? While I would bow down and worship such a thing I don't think the platform will support that much displacement. Maxing out bore and stroke in the Coyote block seems to be limited to about 5.5L. Even if you max the stroke (at around 97.54mm) there literally isn't enough bore spacing for the 100+mm bore you'd need to get to 7 liters. Not only would it be expensive for Ford to build, it would require redesigned block and cylinder heads to accommodate the larger bore spacing. I don't think even the planed iron block for the Coyote can go that big. It would be a hugely impressive engine though, both in power and in how much presence it would have under the hood. It would probably make GM's LS7 look kinda silly in comparison.

Great video. Direct, and to the point with no fluff or "clever" cuts. I'm continually amazed at what Ford's engineers and workers have coaxed out of a naturally aspirated Coyote engine. We've come a LONG way from the 215hp days of the Foxbody and SN95 era. Still, with all that said, one of my dream cars would be a 1998 SVT Cobra, hands down, no questions asked.

Not really 1st ecoboost on Europe specially UK, from 2011 are still running with no problems. 1.0 3 in line 125ps direct injection. If you change oil regularly and do some highway from time to time, 0 carbons problems. Specially if you use 98 octane or 91 usa. This will lower the temperature of the explosion but doesn't decrease efficiency. Lower temperature less to no carbon build up.

Hey speaking of the CMCV setup on the Gen 2, for a street car I don’t know why anyone would delete it honestly. The head was literally cast with the CMCV design in mind and with the flapper setup plus the advanced TIVCT you mentioned these two technologies together make for an amazing street powerband and returns great mileage for that much power. The stock Coyote heads and cams are mighty capable and we literally have a 1600HP GT in our shop right now using bone stock heads and cams, a stock auto trans and tuned in the stock ECU. Coyote power is real.

The use of a dual system of DGI and MPI is Toyota's inspiration they did that from day one. That is why Toyota with DGI never suffered from carbon on the intake valves like all of the high end European cars and Fords with DGI. The removal of factory installed sleeves in the bores is a mistake from a consumer stand point. It effectively turns the block into a throw away block just like a Porsche, BMW or Diamler.

Ford has millions of Gen1 & Gen2 Ecoboost TGDI engine's out there in 1.0L/1.5L/2.0L /3.5L configuration. I work as mech engineer 25yrs in automotive industry & have been around many manufacturers TGDI designs. Ford has been 1 of few that's experienced low-zero performance hindering carbon issues & non existent oil burning (even when in its highest powered Ecoboost TGDIs.. i.e. Raptor, Ford GT supercar, F150 Limited w/Raptor engine etc. I bought $46k '20 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 Gen2- 2.3L Ecoboost mainly because of the class leading powertrain!
@dewrus2153
@dewrus2153 3 жыл бұрын
Just curious why you think the block would be a throw-away block? You do realize that many manufacturers actually used PTWA when remanufacturing engine blocks for years now instead of re-sleeving blocks for remanufactured engines? Also, if you really wanted to, you could opt to re-sleeve a new coyote if you wanted to just like you could the old ones...no need to throw the block away as doing that is cheaper than a new block.

@@Josh47147 It actually was a good engine. The 4.6 SOHC has not much to be desired (I used to own one). The DOHC variants in the Mach 1 and Cobras were badass. IMO, they sound better than the Coyotes (Also owned one). But sound is a matter of opinion.

Thanks for the details, I was interested in the engine used in the 2021 Mach1, my understanding is the intake is from the GT350. Etc. I did however have a question about oil mist and oil separators. I understand a bit about condensation on cold stats and oil mist from blow by. I was intrigued as to why these engines seem to have quite a bit of oil mist. Also why is there more oil miss from the right hand bank then the left. Also I see some people are replacing the oil pumps, is this an issue on all generations?

Aside from bashing the 4.6L, just because it doesn't output the same power as a 5.0L... it is a stout motor. Very reliable. My 2009 4x4 F150 is still strong at way over 200K miles. I just towed a 7,000lb trailer from New York to Florida. No complaints here. Quit bashing this motor!

@@Mangobrain82 - also throttle body and CAI from GT350. Interesting though is that these mods made the Bullitt incur a $1000.00 gas guzzler tax... my guess is a more aggressive tune too? I have been reading where guys are dyno tuning stock Bullitts though up to 520 hp with nothing more than a swap to a JLT intake.... making me think the tune for a stock Bullitt must not be very aggressive at all and perhaps dialed back so that a stock bullit isnt nipping at the heels of a GT350??

@@hammerdown3876 don’t forget the gen3 has more cubes and compression. Regular gen3 GT guys are making those numbers with stock 18 intake and tune. The a10 is also neck and neck with GT350 rolling racing also. As far as the 480hp. Maybe it’s just a number they picked that they though sounded nice. 500 would be impressive but I don’t personally understand the bullet and why they even made another bullet. They haven’t even made a new movie but they’re still making the car.

Respect for the Coyote but I'll disagree with you on the old 4.6L. The 4v version is an absolutely legendary motor. And the head options for those motors were equally legendary. John Mihovetz and outfits like MMR were taking those motors up to 3,000 hp.

The firing order on the Terminator really had the best soundtrack, much more burly than the Coyote firing order, which I guess reverted back to the flat-head V8 firing order of Ford's very early days.

So the Voodoo they went with lower compression / higher boost idea. Interesting stuff for those who need to know these things. Folks need to make sure they hook things up in the right firing order as well. Seems to be more important with the Yotes than the older variety of single cam motors.

VERY Interesting. Especially to a guy who is generally a GM products guy... but currently owns a Mustang! (smile) What is the weight difference in the 3 generations of the Coyote? As I think about swapping in a Coyote into my 2004 V6... I am looking for kind of a "Sleeper" car ... that looks nice as a well-cared-for STOCK car with simply the over-sized Bullitt wheels and larger tires ... with a little 'secret' under the hood. But I do not want the basic balance of the car to be badly changed with a HEAVY NOSE ..
