DWTerminator Plays... Columns

Columns is a match 3 puzzle game originally released in arcades in 1989 and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive the following year. It's really not my kind of game, but since I have a copy I felt like I should give you a demonstration of it and a few thoughts so you can figure out if it's something you'd be interested in.

Had this on a 3-in-1 cartridge which came with my Mega Drive back in the day. I could enjoy it but never too long, I think some of the FM music was pretty nice and relaxing though.

I think most people have only messed around with this game as part of either the more recent collections or the 3-in-1 or 6-in-1 Genesis/Mega Drive carts. Obviously the game was popular enough to spawn sequels and spinoffs, but I don't think I've ever actually encountered an individual copy of the game in the wild.

@@DWTerminator Yup, I would've never bought it on its own, especially at the time when all I wanted was action and adventure.

I had a variation of this on an old Nokia phone around 2006. I wasted some time on it when I was supposed to be studying.

There were a lot of puzzle games that used this formula or style over the years.

Puzzle games, especially ones that were originally in arcade cabinets, do tend to be that way.

Match-3/Tetris-style puzzle games never really did anything for me to begin with. Nonetheless I've ended up with a few in my collection so I might as well cover them on the channel in some regard.

It looks pretty ugly to me The soundtrack is also meh.. I'll take the colorless blocky tetris iteration over this easily. And of course, Dr. Robotniks mean bean machine far surpasses this in every way.
