E/P51. The Shropshire union canal. Gnosall to Market Drayton Part 1

Hi Folks.
In this vlog we leave Gnosall after enjoying a lovely night in the George and the Dragon pub with the locals and begin the first part of a tiring 8 hour journey to Market Drayton. We made this journey in one long day due to the fact that bad weather was forecast for the rest of the week so I thought we might as well crack on whilst the weather was good. It was a long journey so i have edited it in to several vlogs. This being part 1.

Catching up with your older videos and love them. I love good beer too and pub landlords who properly care about their ale. Doombar used to be a tasty pint before the company was bought up primarily for the name! If ever you are in Lewes East Sussex you'd love the Gardener's Arms! Bless you boys and take care.

Thanks for your lovely comment Sarah. Yes I do get down Lewes every now and again as I buy solar panels from bimble solar who are based there. Will check out that pub also I couldn't agree more about poor old Doombar. It's a shame as used to be a good ale . Thanks for watching 👍. Del and the hounds.

Hiya Del. Good to see you. We love the Anchor pub and was sad when we heard about Olive. When we lived 'ashore' in Stafford we would drive up there for the pub........6X a perfect pint. Loved the prank with the car horn, I also do the same when the opportunity arises. Enjoy your cruising matey and I would suggest going up the Llangollen again, you just can't beat it.

Thanks Graham. Yes sadly the end of an era when she passed. The bloke with the car horn sped off blasting his horn when he found out it was me . That made it twice as funny. I wish I had recorded it. I laughed so much that I let out a drop of pee 🤣. Yes looks like the Llangollen so far tho have had a few Chesters. Thanks for watching 😊

i suppose the hire boaters have got to learn somewhere? must be more of them around now as its getting popular... i couldn't do it, so that's why its good to watch these vlogs Del, thanks.

No you don't want that wood, its green. Did you say Smackles? What doggie treat are they? Loving the vlog, everything is coming up green. Here we had 2 days of snow squalls this past week 🤔😮😒😲. I miss the pubs I used to go to. Big open fireplaces, farmers sitting around with their dogs, sometimes wet😀. You would get lots of stories from the older people, it was lovely.

just saw the end of the vlog, that pub looks lovely what a great idea to have music still, hopefully it will carry on the same way? nice you talk about the boats and where they come from and the people you know, its a good community, your knowledge is good. the diesel is cheap! blimey its gone up loads now. there is a pub in Exeter called the Double locks , it use to be like the Anchor but not any more , like you said they are few and far between. I should watched these vlogs in order..😂 they are good. nice weather. thanks .

I spotted the 6x sign, moored and ran back to the Anchor but it was shut. I've tried it 3 times now and it's always been shut. I was told it only opens on a Friday night, but maybe that's wrong. Anyway, cheers for the mention Del, take care mate.

I did the Llangollen about 20 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it but I doubt that it was quite so busy then. All the best Del, have a drink on me.

Thanks Steven. Yes have a chainsaw. Only thing is that you can't burn fresh wood unless it's ash . I'm always on the look out for free heat as coal is bonkers expensive. Thanks for watching mate 👍

Great to see the Anchor again, over 20 years since I had a pint in there. Sorry to hear about the landlady passing but next time I visit I'll make it a weekend!!! I'd vote the Llangollen any day.

Brothers in arms with your comments about shit beers and celebratory imagined pubs. Many pubs ruined by idiots. Lovely lovely Shroppie a top five canal on the network if not even number one. With you on your anxiety about not trading from your van I wish you the best of luck with only trying to achieve success from the boat. You might have your own web site and advertise your skills from that looking at the fuel boats how they gen business. I am sure you've done all that. Anyway keep safe warm dry and virus free.

Thanks for the nice comment David. Yes I'm sure it will all work out in the end. Most of the pubs these days are all chain owned selling chappy old Doombar at over 4 quid a pint. I won't drink the junk. I prefer to find a decent freehouse and support the local breweries.
