My brother, Chris, makes a trip out to the mountains for two days to help us with the four walls to our shed. Our shed is being built with all of our own saw milled lumber. It took a lot of work just to get to this point and it's nice to start seeing some progress from our efforts.

WOW! Watching you do the framing was one thing, but appreciating it in the context of the preceding 24 episodes is what gave it the true gravitas for me. This is my first comment and it’s filled with gratitude for your sharing your great adventure with us. By Christmas this year (2022) I hope to be caught up in watching all the episodes. Best of luck and fortune to you all.

Don’t forget about the topping out ceremony! A small evergreen tree, symbolizing growth and held to bring good luck is placed on the topmost beam of the structure. It doesn’t celebrate a finished structure, just a finished frame. You may celebrate with what ever you like to eat and drink!

I always enjoyed framing. You actually see the structure take shape of what it’s going to be. Love the progress you’re making.

You hit the nail on the head (pun intended)! Building anything by yourself is so rewarding. Building with your own raw materials is icing on the cake.

Thank you! I'm self taught and learning as I go. I can see how something simple like that could be overlooked. Glad I got it right!

Are we making the walls 9 feet high because that's what the mill will cut?

Well, sort of. I'm going to have a workshop inside the shed and I like to have lights higher up and convenient things like a retractable power cord, compressed air hose and things like that. The roof is going to be a 9-12 pitch, so it will sit nice and tall and look like a significant structure on the property. Those extra 12 inches really make a big difference.
