Our shed is really getting down to the nitty gritty. Along with the rest of the shed, we're using all of our own sawmilled poplar from the Harbor Freight sawmill. While we wait for the roof panels to arrive, we get into the detail work of all the trim, which takes the longest out of the whole project. Meanwhile, looking for cedar in the forest, I make a big rookie mistake with the RK24 tractor. Lesson learned. We also start cultivating the garden area with our box blade and start planning how to transplant all of our seeds.

John! Thanks to you & Meg for always making such great videos that are so down to earth! Really enjoy following along with all your projects, as well as the fun & humor along the way. I's awesome to see how far you've come when compared to where you were at in this video. Also, how much the girls have grown. I saw this episode when it was new. Now, I'm coming back around because of my interest in the RK (AKA "Riki") After all that I've seen that you've done with this machine, I'm a believer! 😁💥💯💥👌👍👊💪🤙

Living the dream! We're tryin to hirry up and oay our house off and get out of debt. We're wanting ti do exactly what youre doing,but in southern West Virginia. We already raise rabbits,chickens,and quail,and even raise a little kitchen garden, but our 1/3acre is about maxed out. Hopefully in another year our place will be paid for and we can put a new roof on it and sell it.

Loved your intro with the Tiger Swallow Tail and background music. You're going to love Star Link. I had good luck with making my bridges out of railroad ties as stringers and rough-cut planks across the stringers - it never failed us. God bless you and your special family.

Just an old fellers tip on dropping trees, cut your wedge from the bottom side, gives the tree something to pivot on and keeps kickback to a minimum too. Very nice hinge on that tree! Nice and even. Good job! Remember, you are the forest Steward now, those large trees are the ones that have done all they can. Eventually age will begin to make them unusable if you don't harvest them. Take the old out let the new replace them and select the species that you want for future use. Thin them out so they don't have to comepte so much for nutrients.

I think you found a very good toy in your tractor. A toy you use. Gardening should be good in your neck of the woods. Well made shed.

Young dogs love to roll in Deer and Fox 'scat' (probably Racoon as well), they do grow out of it but the smell can be a bit much ... The best solution (for cleaning) is believe it or not, Tomato Ketchup. Rub it into the affected area and rinse; This is one of those bits of lore that you hear once and say "really?", but then you hear it a second time from a differet source and you think "I've heard that before"; The third time you hear it you think, "maybe there's something to this?", so you give it a try and behold, a miracle. The dogs coat is silky smooth and fresh as mountain air; Wisdom = skip to third stage and try it ... I had a Golden Labrador called 'Rex', I was so impressed with the result I thought a small experiment was in order. So that evening in the shower I shampooed with ketchup, my hair was so soft and fine; the only diference, my dog smelt great whereas I smelt like Fish & Chips (English staple, distinct fish and vinegar odour) ... Ketchup or Shaving Foam will clean just about anything, go figure :-)

Good Morning Homesteaders, You should check out a logging company. Not only will they buy the logs they take, but they will make your roads a 2nd bridges. Lumnah Acres, a youtuber also is doing just that in New Hampshire. I enjoy watching you while having my coffee. Thank you for sharing your Journey with us.

Thanks for watching. Fellow coffee lover here. I've considered this and as silly as it sounds, I want to keep all the adventure for us to experience. Building bridges and roads, moving boulders, shaping the land... You get the idea. We'll make a lot of memories with the kids in the process.

Thank you my friend, and I will do. Nomad is great if your LTE signal is good, but it's very sparse in our area. It comes and goes and we are constantly dropping cell calls. Starlink is $50 cheaper than what we're paying now and seems more dependable from what I've read. I hope it ships soon. All I know is it's coming sometime this year. Haha. 🤞

I made same mistake once, down hill with loader bucket full and NOT 4 wheel drive. Had to lower loader bucket to ground while sliding to stop tractor. Cleaned my pants, put in 4 wheel drive and continued on 🤦‍♂️

It's really an awful feeling. Learned a lot from that mistake. I had the rear brakes locked up. It seems like what you need to do is the complete opposite of your instinct (take your foot off the brake). Transmission would have slowed it down a lot more than locked up brakes. But still, I should have had it in low gear with 4x4. Made me a better operator.

Look at the grain of your boards and cup them all the same direction, facing inward

The chisels on the box blade is called scarifiers. I bent the point on my J.Deere scarifier. John John Deere isn't the best brand. I'm impressed with your RK. PS. Your pretty slick at felling trees.
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dean! I was really pleased with how that tree came down. So many things need to go right when doing that. I'm sure you can relate. The term I was struggling to find was "cultivate". I didn't know they were called scarifiers through (thanks for the tip). I always called them the box blade hooks - haha! I'm really impressed what that box blade does, even when there's a rock or root in the way.

It’s better to let the wood dry out if you can because it. Shrinks and can twist some and possibly split I learnt that lesson on my barn
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 2 жыл бұрын
That is ideal, I agree. I've noticed a big difference between species when milling. Some bend and bow a lot more extreme than others. Poplar is the main material I used for my shed. The main issue I had was shrinkage on the exterior siding, which I put up green. It wasn't that big of a deal because it was the boards (of the board and batten). Once they dried, the gap was covered up by the batten.

Thanks Jeff! Yes, the warranty covered everything. It took the mechanic a solid day to work on it but I was without it for about a week because we were waiting on the parts to come in. Good people at Rural King.

I am kind late commercial to you channel but for future reference suggest use only 1 nail when putting up relative green lumber suggest check out (sawing with sandy) while sawing mostly pine has several structures built using green lumber Use 1 nail at each 'point of contact allows wood to shrink and move without splitting
