Welcome to Alto Hearing & Tinnitus Specialists' KZfaq channel! I'm Adam, an audiologist at our Lutterworth clinic, and today's video is a must-watch. It’s not just an earwax removal - it’s a journey into how something as simple as wax can impact conditions like tinnitus.
👂 In this video, you'll see a fascinating case where a client initially sought help for tinnitus but discovered that earwax blockage was a major contributor to her symptoms. Witness the transformation as we carefully remove the wax, and learn about the intricate connection between ear health and tinnitus.
🔎 We believe in a holistic approach to hearing health, and this video exemplifies that. We're not just removing wax; we're exploring underlying causes and providing comprehensive solutions. The result? A surprising and often immediate improvement in tinnitus symptoms for some clients.
🌟 If you find this video helpful, please support us by hitting the 'Like' button and subscribing to our channel. Your engagement helps us reach more people in need of hearing care insights.
👉 Remember, earwax removal and tinnitus are complex topics. If you're experiencing similar issues, we recommend seeking professional advice. Visit our website altohear.co.uk for more information or to book an appointment.
Examine Your Ears with Confidence Using a Wireless Otoscope
Curious about the state of your ear health? A wireless otoscope allows you to check your ears from the comfort of your home. Using your a camera that connects to your phone, this tool gives you a clear view inside your ears, aiding in early detection of wax buildup. Note: While safe for examination, we advise against using these devices for earwax removal. Discover our suggested wireless otoscope here: amzn.to/3uDrGmG for a safe, non-invasive way to keep an eye on your ear health.
Discover the Benefits of Olive Oil Spray for Ear Care
Olive oil spray can be remarkably useful for lubricating and softening earwax, making it easier to manage and remove. Its fine mist application ensures a gentle, even distribution, minimizing discomfort. Explore our top pick for olive oil spray here: amzn.to/3I1ffEq and experience a more comfortable way to maintain ear health.
Unlock the Power of Sodium Bicarbonate Spray
For those tougher cases of earwax, sodium bicarbonate spray offers a potent solution. Its ability to break down earwax more efficiently stems from its alkaline properties, which soften the wax faster than many alternatives. Find our recommended sodium bicarbonate drops here: amzn.to/3SNPZWW and take the first step towards clearer ears.

My first encounter with this was during my Navy service in the early 90's. We always wore lots and lots of earplugs during the various grinding and other ship repairs. I was young (around 19) and had never experienced hearing trouble. Gradually I began to experience a swishing in my ears which I couldn't identify and hearing loss when I lay down to sleep. This led me to miss wake up call twice resulting in a Captain's Mass (disciplinary action.) Nobody wanted to hear what I had to say. They thought I was making excuses and sent me away for re-training. When I arrived at the new facility I immediately requested a checkup. The doctor evacuated around an ounce of wax from my ears ( a lot in such a small space.) Needless to say when I related all this to him (a medical officer) he wrote a seething letter to my command which found them officially reprimanded. My command lacked a lot of fundamental management and leadership capability. I was happy to to NOT re-enlist and departed.

I wish ear wax was the reason I have tinnitus, but unfortunately not. Suffering with tinnitus for over 40 yrs. Most of the time, I'm used to it, but on really bad days, I feel like I'm loosing my mind. I have very bad hearing and wear 2 hearing aids. One of my biggest fears is that I go completely deaf and the only sound I hear is in my head. I have every noise imaginable

I’ve had tinnitus for 11 years non stop it is life changing. I also have pressure in my head. I was hit in my neck with a roller door at work. From that day my life changed for the worse. I have spent so much on trying to find a relief and tried many therapy’s. I am attending an osteopath now and it’s helping lots. Mine is from compressed nerves in my neck and a c1 c2 rotation. He has helped to decompress the nerves. The tinnitus is much more manageable so is the head pressure. Thank God for small miracles.

I've had my ears syringed a few times in my life as a result of wax buildup and everytime its felt like my head was underwater and all I could hear was a constant high pitched squeal. The nurse told me that its caused by wax pressing on the eardrum which makes sense. The relief you feel when the ear is finally cleared is heavenly. not only the release of the discomfort but suddenly being able to 'hear' quiet again is very special. I do feel for tinnitus sufferers, it was torture for me waiting a few weeks to get sorted, I cant imagine that for life! Take care of your ears people!

Over the next 5 days, it gradually lessened but my equilibrium has never returned to 100% and my hearing returned but I now have hypersensitivity in that ear and Tinnitus. Later I found that everything points to Ménière's disease.

I suffer from a tinnitus on my left ear, after a bad case of external otitis. Sadly, my left ear is the one which have normal hearing. My right ear can not hear a thing lower than 45dB. Inside my left ear, it is not like a sound. It is more like I can hear my heart beat, and like a sensation that my ear canal is fulled or blocked, like a pressure problem when you have to blow while pinching your nose. I get a consultation with an ENT. She was a very unfriendly person, who did not hide that she was annoyed by my questions and that she only wanted one thing, which was for me to leave her office so that she could go on for her weekend. She spoke to me like I was a stupid and annoying child. She told me that there was absolutely nothing in my ear and that everyone has tinnitus, and that it was normal, and I just have to "suck it up" like everyone else. lovely person.

When you first experience tinnitus, it can be quite distressing. If I sit in a quiet room my tinnitus can be quite loud. You may have the fight or flight experience giving you heightened senses. You may have those heightened senses for months or years I.e. anxiety. Anxiety is a separate issue. Calm the anxiety, and you can almost forget about your tinnitus. I keep busy throughout the day, and try to maintain a decent standard of mental health. I used to get to bed with my earbuds in, with rain noises to silence it. I can now go to bed without them, the tinnitus doesn’t bother me; I almost don’t even think about it. Over a number of years the tinnitus has become less important in my subconscious importance.

I've had tinnitus for probably 15+ years now Came on suddenly one day, no real reason. No loud sounds, no injury. Went to ENTs. Some just said use sound, only one tried to test out things to help me. Sadly cleaning my ears out perfectly didn't help it. Overtime my brain adapted and masks it a vast majority of the time. But any substance/medication that impacts brain activity impacts tinnitus. Just started an anxiety med and it spiked the tinnitus but I'm adapting well again. My hearing is superb even with it I have (last time I got checked like 2 years back) the hearing of someone in middle school. It sucks because I forgot what silence sounds like.

It could be stress and tension. I had really bad tinnitus and I found out that it came from me tensing up my shoulders and my neck due to stress and anxiety. Once I became self aware of that and pushed myself to relax in those areas the tinnitus eventually went away. Sinuses can also heavily affect things like tinnitus, maybe you've lived in a dusty environment for a long time, maybe you have an allergy. It could be any number of things. Could even be a benign tumor or something pushing on your ear canal.

For the last few years, every year or so, a hard raisin-sized piece of wax will come out of my ears. It's pretty satisfying, but it kind of surprised me the first time it happened.

The grossness of how this is visually is outweighed by how satisfying I imagine it feels to have that much debris removed from inside of your ears.

Wow, that looked like a massive relief. Very interesting to see the path all the way to the eardrum! Makes me question 🤔 how much crap could be in my ear?

I marvel at how ears can get to be so horribly blocked with earwax. Good lord.

I've had tinnitus all my life. I know mine is partially ear wax related as I have really thick ear wax and my ears produce a lot of it. When my ears get cleaned it mostly goes away until wax builds up again, though it's also triggered by loud noises. I can't hear certain tones on hearing tests because the tinnitus is so loud that those tones are just inaudible.

I think a good summary is: Tinnitus is just as complex as our hearing.

about 6 years ago, I had perfectly clear hearing going to bed & woke up with loud roaring (tinnitus) in my R ear. Multiple GP/ENT visits + 2 MRI's and they have no idea as to the cause (asymptomatic tinnitus & 30% hearing loss in my right ear). About as frustrating as anything I've encountered !!

I've been told it's the auditive cortex that makes the noise. Ears are fine, tympanic membrane is fine, the bones are fine, the nerve works perfectly. My brain sings to itself. And I am not swallowing gabapentin to stop it.

As someone who's had tinnitus ever since i can remember, god if only it were this easy... tbh i've had it for so long now it's just another tuesday for me. Prettymuch always got some music on to drown it out, got a fan on at night. rarely notice it aside from actual silent areas

I wish a wax removal would remove my tinnitus.....even though I have no wax in my ear to cause it. Sadly, mine is caused from the many years I was around loud noises from working in construction and law enforcement.

Wish a good cleaning would solve my tinnitus issues. 40 years of hearing a constant whine/ringing. For a very long time I didn’t even know that’s what people meant when they said their ears were ringing; it was just the sound that went underneath everything else, or the sound of silence.

I have tinnitus had it since I was 18 now 51 I have seen ENT and was told I had excess fluid behind my eardrum. He also said it could be something or the start of something. Years later I went on to develop fibromyalgia which is affecting my vision could he have seen my fibro then as I do think I have had it all my life it just showed it's ugly face after a spinal injury

Hi Denise - sorry to hear this. It's difficult to say without a full case history but it's unlikely an ENT doctor would be able to diagnose fibromyalgia when investigating fluid behind the eardrum. I hope you get the help you need!

I wish I lived in the UK bc I would definitely make an appointment. I don't have tinnitus though. I'm sorry for everyone here in the comments that do. I keep getting ear infections and no one can tell me why. I went my entire life without ever having one until my late 30s (in my childhood you couldn't get me out of a pool and I still NEVER got an infection). Now (I don't swim anymore) I get an infection in either or both ears at least once every 2 months. Sometimes it's middle ear, sometimes it's inner ear. Sometimes I need antibiotics, sometimes just drops. The pain can get so bad it literally raises my blood pressure to risk of stroke and I'm only 39. No one has been able to tell me why. I'm lucky that so far they tell me I haven't had any perforations.

After I got hit by a mean flu, my right ear lost sound for around five days. Now I have a pitch sound, and it sounds higher when I bite my teeth together and I can't also remove the clog when you try to pressure out your ears. Only left can do it, but if I tip my head to the left and pull up on my right ear, it works. A normal position with my head I can't 🤔

Wish this was the case for me... but I got diagnosed with Menieres disease 2019, only 24 years old... until now it's been a life in hell with vertigo everyday, hearing loss and now almost totaly deaf in my right ear and alot of tinnitus... I've got gentamicine injections in my ear that kills my balance organ totally, that does not treat my disease but it takes away the vertigo, which is the worst part and I never wish even my greatest enemy that horrible feeling of spinning around in 100 miles per hour. Now I just hope I don't get the same disease in my healthy ear because then I could as well just end my life right now...
