You mentioned Tornados…Tennessee had a deadly outbreak on Saturday. I live in Georgia. They are scary but for me not as scary as an earthquake where you have zero warning. I’ve been weighing retirement in Philippines or Thailand. I’ve been to Thailand many times for work and compassion projects along the Myanmar border. I lean toward Philippines for English, beautiful beaches and alignment of faith but I lean toward Thailand for infrastructure, medical, food and not prone to the natural disasters. I’m 2-3 years out on my decision. Stay safe.

Thailand is generally cheaper than the Philippines. I love parts of the Philippines. You can be happy. That being said it will depend on what you want. Poverty will weigh on you. Many Americans will live in gated communities....Really insolating themselves from Filipino communities. So it will depend on how you want to live.

I was at Clark AB in 89, we had several earthquakes in 89 and 90 with the largest I believe was 7.4 . A year later we had Mt Pinatubo volcano erupt less than 8 miles from the base. We went 2 days without sunlight. Such a massive eruption wiped out 70 percent of the Air Force base. It erupted in June of 91. My family evacuated by ships out of Subic with over 90% of the base personal. I was a cop so had to stick around 6 months or so to protect resources til we could move them out. After the eruption we had thousands of aftershocks. Fun fun fun!

My company had AS 400 servers on the base related to some kind of military manufacturing. We pulled that infrastructure out in 93-95 time frame. You'd see a church steeping and the church was buried by ash. It was a war zone.

Speaking of earthquakes…I traveled to LA monthly for 10 years and every time I was there I was waiting for the Big One. You guys are overdue. It’s been a long time since a major earthquake there. Stay safe

Thank you for this video. I lived in Davao City close to San Pedro church Magallanes Residence and that building is really structured for an earthquake disaster I have to admit with a new steel construction frame installed throughout the entire building that must have cost a fortune. . Look at what happened in Turkey. I do fear the Philippines suffering what Turkey suffered recently. You have to wonder if the building you live in can holdup.

Glad to hear you and your family are safe and ok. Coming from California, quakes are a fact of life so i get your point on that. When it comes to natural disasters, quakes are the most unpredictable since they can hit at any time with little to no warning. With tornados, hurricanes and typhoons you can get a some advanced warning based on the forecast weather or the time of year which they are known to develop. There is no "earthquake season" - they will hit when you least expect it. Being in a safe & sturdy structure + knowing what to do when they strike is key to surviving one.

Thank you for the report on the earthquakes. I saw a map of all the earthquake activity near Mindanao and had not found reports from people who live in the vicinity. So it's nice to get information from someone who lives there.

Even in Laguindingan Misamis Oriental Northern Mindanao the Quake woke my wife and daughter who were both fast asleep and that is some distance from the epicentre. I saw how powerful the quake was based on the large water displacement in the swimming pool. I recommend anyone living in the Pacific region to monitor tsunami.gov/ in the event of a major earthquake

Some of the condimium towers near Abreeza Mall have structural cracks and the government/3rd party inspections raise some real concerns

You left out volcanos, but that is in the north mostly Luzon, I believe. Don't erupt real often but they are there and active. Know the risks anywere you live.

Many of those houses built from cinder blocks aren't going to withstand a bigger quake.

I just came to the philippines less than 2 months here in Davao City Toril… I felt the quake around 10:30ish pm and was thinking i should go outside from my home when it subsided… i live going toward overview… it was far from my worst natural disaster experience! anyway, we need to get together and chat

Earthquake isn’t that deadly in the Philippines. Most houses are not concrete but wood houses. Typhoon is a big concern

You should have mentioned that ALL of the lindols (quakes) were many kilometers offshore and truth be told, after the first 3 or so that were felt in Davao, the aftershocks were literally nothing to be concerned about. I know, I was in our condo in Northpoint and the aftershocks didn't register in the buildings at all. Even my asawa, who was at her Beach Resort in Purok 2, Tagdangua, Pantukan, Davao De Oro, which is even closer, only felt a very few aftershocks that were not felt in DVO. FWIW, I have an eathquake monitor app running full-time on my cell primarily because her resort is on the coast and tsunamis, although not likely, are a concern.

@blockaderunner Unless I misunderstand you... Is the home you rent designed to survive a magnitude 7.0 quake? I really doubt it... A well designed concrete and steel building with good rebar will stand up a lot better than any hollow block structure.

I am Senior citizen of USA. Comptplating making the move. I have concerns about qualifying for retirement visa. I have some criminal history. This may be a topic of interest to your viewers. I had some MMJ growing at 2 locations, so 2 convictions for manufacture. This was 24 years ago. Can you point me in the right direction for some sound legal immigration advise? Please and thanks.

I was talking to my Gf on face chat when the recent quake hit ,they all ran out of the house and into the open area , their house still has damage from the 2019 quake that killed a lot of people mainly due to landslides and poor construction of buildings , ive only ever experience one tornado and that was a small one in England

Yes, the December earthquake was a big one, the biggest I ever experienced including all others here in Davao City and in California. In the US, I grew up in northeastern Oklahoma in tornado alley. I watched our backyard fence sail away in a tornado that left nothing less than two short blocks away. Natural disasters are bad in the Philippines. What about the church bombing in Mindanao during mass the day following the earthquake? That was not good either.

The terrorist bombing happened at a morning mass on December 3, 2023, held in the gymnasium of Mindanao State University in Marawi City. Four people were killed. Government intelligence said the Islamic State was involved. One suspect from Marawi City has been arrested.@@sethoselken9562

HELP PLZ: Seeking advice for expats whose income is based in their home country, mine being America, what would be the best method for expediting my tax return for this next year. And yes the earthquakes could be felt here at a frightening level in general santos city. Glan or Sarangani region as you stated had the most prominent effect on us here. I am willing to donate as a way of appreciation for any advice that might be helpful dealing with my finances and a way to file my tax return from here. Keep the videos coming and thank you again. I use Google Fi costs me less than $30 a month and use it over wi-fi for calls to eliminate international rates. Has worked for me almost 3 years in 20 countries.

No matter where you live there is always some type of natural disaster to deal with. Weather its subfreezing cold, snow fall, tornados, fires, earthquakes, volcanoes, drought, or typhons, there is always the possibility of something. It's a personal choice as to what is acceptable. After dealing with multiple calamities worldwide I'll personally settle with the "adventures" we deal with here in the Philippine
