I have a pole next to my bed to help me get up in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. In the morning, I find I don't function well till I have had a glass of WATER. I can get that sooner than my first cup of coffee.

My problem with knee pain when getting out of bed, or just standing up from seated, is that my knee joints or tendons seem to get out of position. It's not the kneecap -- it's just below, more toward the peroneal. As I stand up the first time, there may be a click and twinge. Flexing and extending my knees a few times before standing can sometimes avoid that click and twinge. I have severe arthritis in both knees, one has a torn lateral meniscus, and the other is aggravated because I overuse it. I mentioned this flexing and extending movement to an orthopedic surgeon (who had worked on pinning my broken ankle back together, so we were just chatting offhand about knee issues), and he laughed and said, yes, lots of my torn meniscus patients do that, and it seems to help. I'm guessing it is allowing something to move back into the correct position.

In that area on the outer shin just below the kneecap it could be a few things: 1. The IT Band kzfaq.info/get/bejne/frV_g9Bj0r-9kas.html 2. The fibular head at the proximal tibiofibular joint 3. The lateral meniscus as you mentioned Good luck!

Trouble bending like just dangling from the side of the bed, or only when weightbearing such as sitting down on the toilet or walking downstairs in the morning?

I have knee pain in one knee just above the knee cap, it does hurt when i stretch it after sleeping but also when it bends throughout the day, a lot when exercising. I’ve tried quad stretched but it hasn’t helped, do you know what might be the problem? Love your videos

The most common cause of pain just above the knee would be the quadriceps tendon. Often that's due to overusing the quads and underusing the glutes. Soft tissue work (massage gun, foam roller, massage stick, etc) on the quad muscles (NOT the sore part of the tendon) may help short-term with the pain and stiffness, but often the long-term solution is glute strength. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p91nec5jm86se58.html *Keep in mind these are general tips and should not be used in place of consulting with a healthcare professional in your area.
