Celebrate Easter with delicious homemade hot cross buns! These soft and fluffy buns are a tasty tradition that you won't want to miss.
Easter Hot Cross Buns:
Ingredients:
BUNS
800gr plain flour
200gr Self raising flour
1.5 Tbsp yeast
180gr caster sugar
1/2 Tsp salt
Lemon zest of 2 lemons
3 Tsp cinnamon
3 Tsp mixed spice
2 cups sultanas or 2 cups chocolate chip
1 Tbsp rum
500ml warm milk
2 eggs
180gr of melted butter or oil
PASTE FOR CROSSES
50gr flour
4 Tbsp water
JAM GLAZE
apricot jam
2 Tsp water
-Combine all dry ingredients together
-Add all the other ingredients
-Mix for around 5mins or until smooth and elastic
-transfer to the floured surface and knead for another 5 mins
-Place in the bowl and rise for an hour
-Shape into the log
-Cut on half then each into 12 pieces
-shape it into a ball and smooth the top
-place them on a tray
-Mix the paste for the crosses
-use piping bag to make cross on each bun
-rise for another 30mins
-Preheat the oven on 180c and bake for 20 - 22 mins
-Put aside
-mix apricot jam with water ,stir well and brush it onto stil hot buns
-Serve warm with ice-cream or cream and jam
-Enjoy !
