Mid 50's Double Cutaway with P90 growl in a classy build without the high price tag. If you're looking for custom shop quality (and above) without the usual hit to your wallet, you should look closely at the SB55DC/v and indeed the entire Eastman Guitars range. They don't compromise. Great stuff.

Managed to get one of these after watching this video. Got to say this guitar put the biggest smile on my face after 35 years of playing, fantastic instrument, very organic and so much tones using tone and volume. The only thing I will change are the tuners, the Fabers on my guitar feel very loose and to be honest feel cheap. A set of Identical gotohs will turn this guitar into my best ever purchase and I have bought a silly amount of guitars over the years, thank you for this great video

I'm glad you're digging it, Don. I might try a tuner replacement too, I've been having trouble keeping mine in tune for longer than a few minutes. Could be grabbing at the nut, though. There's a new video - a sort of revisit - that's just gone up today if you're interested. See: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrGEoq9psrLPc5s.html

I think it was about 25 years ago when a friend of mine, who owned a vintage guitar store, had an original early Les Paul Junior DC in cherry red hanging there for 1250 guilders (the Netherlands). That's approximately €600,- now, or 650 US dollars. THAT'S INSANE! I loved that guitar, but I didn't have the money then and I figured "these guitars are sleepers, they'll always be relatively cheap". DAMN, I'LL ALWAYS HATE MYSELF FOR BEING AN IDIOT!

I have a Eastman SB55/v-SB which is the single cut model and it is awesome. Mine is right at 3kg and was set up very, very well. Only thing I did was add a touch more relief and drop the bridge a hair. They are really custom shop quality instruments.

Brett! I bought the SB55 DC. Now I see why at 28 seconds into this video your face turns a blush red like you’re fell in love. You were glowing during this demo. And now that I’ve had it for a couple of day, I can’t say that it’s NOT my favorite guitar. If I’m still feeling this way next week, I’d say I am completely smitten. Or as you would say, “it’s a ripper”

Super cool guitar, thanks for doing the video. To be a little more ergonomic, I wish it had a forearm carve and a belly carve. In my opinion, this particular Gibson design is not so iconic that Eastman can't use some artistic license to make some small, cheap improvements on what is essentially a flat plank of wood.

I was not long off the phone enquiring about a hollow body Eastman & up pops this video! It's so hard to tell how this guitar sounds when you are running through an amp most don't have or aren't familiar with, other than knowing it's in a price bracket at the upper echelons. So, I'm wondering what exactly sets this guitar apart from its competitors? The sound to me is rather generic, so is it only about the price or is there something other than that? And whilst fit and finish is typically top notch on reviewers samples, such Chinese guitars (even though it's a Canadian company) have a reputation of being somewhat hit and miss coming from the factories of China. Their quality control simply isn't what it should be, so lessor examples get through the large cracks. I have heard and read from a myriad of sources with unhappy customers. It's a pity that manufacturers, especially the smaller brands, don't move their factories to Korea where quality control is known to be far superior or perhaps even Indonesia. I believe the customer needs that assurance they are buying a quality product, especially in these days where online sales are so important. Excellent playing as always, just a little more ubiquitous than usual. Cheers. 🎸🎸🎸

I’ve got a T486 Eastman hollow body and it’s a beautifully built instrument. I can’t get off the thing. It cost me $1200 Aussie dollars. No set up needed. Plays fantastic. My friend bought an Epiphone Sheraton for the same money and the Eastman made it sound very average. He had to get it set up and it still was nowhere near as nice to play.
@nostro1001

@@richardembery Aussie $$$ here also - thank you for the reply and recommendation. As much as I used to like old Sheratons, I now find them lacking that top end sparkle compared to other competing brands & perhaps overall just a tad too mellow or missing some dynamics. Shame I can't get out to check on any Eastman's. Hard to find here as you'd know, not to mention I live regionally. Hence, me hesitating based on place of manufacture. What I'm particularly looking for from the hollow body is that sort of Morricone/spag Western tone. Would you say your model fits that criteria and any plug for place of purchase? Your help is appreciated. Cheers. 😊

@@nostro1001 mine came with Seymour Duncan pick ups. Jazz in the neck and 59 in the bridge. Super versatile guitar. Seems to be able to handle any style you throw at it. I got mine from Gold Coast Music. If anything happened to mine I’d replace it with the same no hesitation. Another friend who plays with Toni Childs and is a world class player told me he’s played real Gibson 335’s that don’t play as well. Honestly it is hard to put down. The difference in tone between the Sheraton and the T486 is huge. It made my other friend very unhappy with his Sheraton purchase.

@@richardembery I've got this feeling they've sold all Eastman's on the Goldie. Perhaps some 3-4k models still in stock. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow to find out what's in stock. I'm looking at buying a new guitar within the next week basically, to have pre Christmas. Otherwise, I've been looking at Gretsch's mostly the electromatic series. A bit different again, but I am a fan of their pups. My go to guitar currently is a MIJ Jazzmaster which I do love, just looking for something to fill another niche. Thanks. 😎🎸👍

@@nostro1001 some of the Ibanez with Super 58 pick ups look really nice as well. I was torn between the Ibanez and Eastman at the time. I love the Gretsch guitars. They look great. I hope you find something that you love. Have a good day.

There is always a reason when something is too good to be true! Eastman guitars are made in Chinese factories under dreadful conditions for many very young workers, if you ever saw how they are treated you would never include an Eastman in your review again. Do your own research before buying an instrument because someone paid a price so you can get a bargain and if that doesn't make you feel awful playing it you need to question your humanity.

You are completely wrong. Eastman makes their own guitars, they are not a like other Chinese guitar factories that make guitars for different companies. The cheap factories are financed by American companies to produce low cost instruments, whereas Eastman buys American electronics for their Chinese made guitars. Chew on that for a bit.
@pigxstix
@pigxstix 2 жыл бұрын
So you've been there? Because the factory pics and videos I've seen don't look like that. Although I did notice a lot of women doing work I didn't see any kids and it didn't look too dreadful. I guess you saw something different when you went there in person?
@SuperEdge67

You could say that about any Chinese product. Probably half the stuff you buy is Chinese, often without you even realising.
