I work with lot nasty wood. That tall 4 way would be best for me. The box wedge would be great for them huge rounds. I working with box store splitter and it is so slow. Hope to get into a commercial splitter soon. I looking into a dump trailer first.

I've watched (and givin a big ol thumbs up to) more than 30 of your videos in the last few weeks. I've been wanting to heat with wood for several years now. It's very likely that I'll own a 12-22 before I own a wood boiler. As a machinist I can see the quality that puts you ahead of your competition. What a great product.

Nice job Andrew explaining the difference between 4 and 6 way! We use the 4 way for the smaller logs to keep from splitting to small for our boiler, then switch to the 6 way for the 12 to 15 inch stuff then back to the 4 way for the nasty stuff.

A large majority of my wood comes from the loggers buck saw. It's always big and knotty and always a PITA to bust up but damn , those large oak knots are some of the best long burning wood you'll ever toss in a fire.

5:54 pretty much sums it up. Both get the job done. For our 12-22 we have the 4, 6 and box. For the first week I tried all three. For the last year or so, the 4way has remained in the machine. We run most of our logs through the Hakki PIlki. Whatever is too big for that machine (+15" diameter), or is too knotty, twisted or rotten, we set aside and let the good ol' reliable 12-22 get the job done.

I've been running a 12-22 for a while now. Your explanation on the wedges is spot on Andrew. I get a lot of tree service wood so the 4 way and box wedge are my go to. I rarely use the 6 way wedge unless I get log loads or consistent size pieces of about 8-14 inches in diameter. Nice looking Grand L you have there.

We haven't yet, but there's no reason why we can't. Biggest wedge we have done at eastonmade is the 12 way. Could probably go as high as 20 if we had to. It gets counter productive once you get into bigger rounds. The only application for a big multi wedge like that would be in s processor where resplits are difficult. Thanks for all the support

I agree with the ugly pieces of wood with the four way wedge. Now my opinion if a person is not sure which one to get two questions they should ask themselves is how big of pieces they want and the size of rounds you are going to use. Love the channel.

After watching you muscle the wedges to change them over I had a thought that a simple overhead crane like an engine crane that could take the hard work out of the lift could be handy. Just drop it into a mount somewhere near the oil tank and it could could be swung in or out as needed and removed if not needed.

I've had a couple of customers actually do that. Not sure if it makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint. I feel a lot of guys will be working with a second person or have a piece of equipment to remove the wedge if they had to. Thanks for the feedback Alan. Really appreciate it

Everything you said Andrew is exactly spot on! I use my 6 way 100% of the time, I wish I got the 4 way instead of the 8 way, I only used my 8 way for 30min and it’s been sitting in storage ever since, oops my mistake! I wish I could trade the 8 way for a 4 way, either way I love everything about my 12-22!

Morning Andrew. I've been using the 6-way so far - splits our rounds really well. Makes good size splits for the boiler. I'm swapping it out with the 4-way next week to give that a try as well. Got some smaller diameter rounds to run through it. The tractor is looking great! LOL! Cheers and thanks again - all the best!

If you're getting the the big ugly logs to make into firewood, I would think that using the Axis vertical splitter would be the way to go. It would give you the precise control over how the round is split. Granted it's not the fastest splitter compared to the horizontal splitters, but if quality counts and your trying to make lemonade from lemons, it might be the way to go.

I really do feel the wood you plan on producing is what wedge you are going to use. Big clean rounds 20 inches or more go to the box wedge for consistent pretty wood. 14 to 16 I feel the 6 way works. 10 to 14 the 4 way works. Some people like a 12 way with the 18 to 20 inch area. Like you said some people run 1 wedge and some have a half dozen wedges.

Great comparison of the 4 way and 6 way. You're absolutely right about the quality of wood and it's intended end use or customer are the drivers for the choice of the wedge. I like the tall 4 way on Surviving Country LIfe's 9-16. It looks like the answer for the ugly stuff. You can switch between single and 4 way with the height adjustment. Is this an option on all splitters?

I finally used my 4 way for the first time as the box wedge has been the go to since it went into the machine. I found it easier to control wood size than the 6 way and there was less waste than the box wedge. I'm going to start sorting out logs by size so the appropriate wedge can be used without a lot of swapping out. We don't buy logs yet so the variations in wood size is huge and they all get rounded up and end up on the same pile. I helped a friend with 9 cords last week and most of it was with the 6 way. Quality wasn't a consideration which was good because you can get a lot of slivers with the 6 way if your not paying attention to the wedge height. I'm going to make a boom to change wedges, the 4 way and 6 way aren't to bad but that box wedge is a beast. With the 18" plus wood the box wedge is still my go to even though it makes a lot of waste.
