I recommend using zip ties as "safeties" for the lights that hang on the pole, just in case the clamp fails/loosens.

This is great! I’m watching videos cause I have a small room with a drum set. Researching ideas to try something like this so I can have a overhead shot and mount my two lights? Also maybe my two overhead microphones to clear up walking space. Great idea!

Be sure to let fully dry before you clamp on it… usually 2 days for clear to get nice and hard.

Great idea putting everything on the ceiling. I've had some bad luck with several of those SmallRig clamps, so I'd recommend something like the Manfrotto 035 Super Clamp instead - much stronger and you won't have to clamp down as hard but they hold better.
@tr3nDmaker
@tr3nDmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The SmallRIg clamps are working well for my setup, but pushing it.. However, I just bought the IMPACT Friction Clamp, which is exact design of Manfrotto Magic Arm for 1/2 price and a better camera mount so I remove it a nd put it back easily.. Video coming soon.

overall nice job I just installed a support pole as well but in my home studio I have a ceiling light so my main power is pluged in so I don't have any wires running down the wall. Saved a lot of money for sure

What clamp is it you use for your GVM light im trying to mount mine and dk if i should buy a camera wall mount or do this idea.
@wdavis876
@wdavis876 Жыл бұрын
Good job. With the GVM mounted lights did you find that you still needed the floor lights? The 2 mounted GVM didn't do the job? I'm asking because I was planning to get 2 GVM lights to mount and do away with the floor stands altogether.
@tr3nDmaker
@tr3nDmaker Жыл бұрын
Great question…. You could easily get away with just 2 mounted, if you set them in front of you or off to sides. I use the 2 mount back a bit to light up table or to add color to back wall. 2 cheaper bi color lights on stands forward of me to light up face and anything in hand to show. I was planning another mounted pole for the 2 front lights… just not in my way like the others were.., so, just living with it.

I'm looking for a mounted lighting solution for portrait photography -- I want to light a white backdrop to true white so need to light it separately from the subject. Do you think this setup would work? Have you used this setup for that purpose?
@tr3nDmaker
@tr3nDmaker 2 жыл бұрын
I think it will work… the key will be distance from wall and location of subject. I would test holding lights or using stands to test mounting height, distance from wall and subject.

Can I use anchors if I don’t find stud?
@tr3nDmaker
@tr3nDmaker Жыл бұрын
I would definitely try to get a stud… anchors do not have the holding strength needed. With constant adjustments of equipment… they will fail and destroy your equipment or your head! Just adjust your length till you get a stud. You will be much better off.

I've been looking for a solution like this for my studio for a while now, but the problem for me is that it's the attic. I'm looking for something to mount the rod on the left and right sloping roof..

In stead of 90 degree fittings on main pipe… could try 45 or 30 if you can find them.

10 feet of 3/4 inch electrical conduit $10. Two 3/4 inch electrical conduit standoffs. Two 5-inch pieces of PVC. Two 6-inch Black Ecoat Flat-Head Exterior Structural Wood Screws. All are mounted to studs. Total cost $38.56.
@tr3nDmaker
@tr3nDmaker Жыл бұрын
PVC??? Please be careful! I used steel pipe, that I could do pull-ups off of… not PVC. Cameras and lighting are heavy and expensive.
@brianblather
@brianblather Жыл бұрын
@@tr3nDmaker Think about the parts list and how they would be used. The 10 feet of 3/4 inch electrical conduit is the cross beam. The Two 5-inch pieces of PVC are spacers between the standoffs and the ceiling. A full 1 inch of the Black Ecoat Flat-Head Exterior Structural Wood Screws has been enough to hold ~250 lbs of lights and cameras on my ceiling for three years.
@tr3nDmaker
@tr3nDmaker Жыл бұрын
@@brianblather Sounds like you got it... Just didn't want you to build a PVC ceiling rig that would smash your gear or drop on your head... It's KZfaq... some people should not be building stuff like this. Glad you have a good rig though. Thanks for watching!

I designed and now sell a mount to work with these lights and others that mounts to tripod. Because its a flexible material... it clip nicely on the 1" bar for this over-head setup. Email me at tr3ndmaker@gmail.com if you want some prices. Be sure to include: City, State and Country.
