One of the best gardening tools for easy garden transplanting, raised bed & garden soil moisture level checking, and controlling wet compost with aeration via a overlooked garden planting auger. I have to appreciate this favorite as a must have garden tool for many task around the homestead besides just planting transplants in the garden during spring time. It is cheap, reliable, and sturdy all the while only requiring a hand held drill and reducing the need to carry around other seedling transplanting tools. I highly recommend the simple very useful garden tool if you haven't already.
May all your branches become full of fruit.

I am sooooo happy you're back. I have a fig patch and all mulched with wood chips. I added local mycilium from the Woods and our own chicken manure. I have learned a lot from your lessons. In the process of watching all your Videos.

Yeah, i Like that! And once you' ve got that hole you can also dump some kitchen scraps or bokashi to improve your soil, just next to the roots of your favorite plants. I'll definitely try that

I recently bought an auger for my drill… LOL I wasn’t aware of the power and it grabbed hold of some clay and nearly broke my arm… I notice you have a nice hold on yours! They are the best thing to have!

Yes! And now I'm so pissed at myself for cutting out my advise or tips concerning that very possibility. I won't do it again just to try and reduce the length of a video if I feel it might be of some help to other. UGH!!!

May I suggest using a broad fork to lossen the soil in the row before using the auger. Would be less work for the drill. .

Good suggestion...it would go deeper but that is a lot of work and very time consuming to do for the whole garden And typically the broad fork seems to just bring the clay below up into big clumps. It depends on the moisture level of course. As far as doing just a row at a time before using the drill then I could see how that might help if the drill wasn't getting deep enough. Thanks.

Roots take the path of least resistance so with a round hole the roots will get root bound ? I was always taught to dig a square hole when I plant to stop the root bound , I would think the drill bit would harden up the sides of the soil with the spinning action .

I myself have never experienced a living plant buried in the soil to become 'root bound'. The get deflected sometimes when they encounter rock but always seem to find a way to get what they need. It makes sense to me because I see trees growing from a rock face cliff all the time around here. I think your fine in however you choose to put your plants in the ground. Either way I don't believe there will be any harm done. If your plants are successful in what your doing then it may be best to stick with that. Cheers!

Could you show how deep your woodchip have made your soil? And tell how long it took to convert your clay. HURAH!!
@3basketliving
@3basketliving Жыл бұрын
I don't think the clay get "converted" but as you know I am trying to just break it up and incorporate the organic material into it to have a better texture to it.

@@3basketliving Convert may have been a poor choice of words. Would transform be better. How deep is your soil?

Chemical fertilizers get a bad rap. It is assummed the fertilizer destroys the organic mater. What is happening. People stop putting down organic matter back into the soil. And depend on the fertilizer. Over time The organic matter is burned up by the summer heat. If you use Chemical fertilizers. You still have to add large amounts of organic matter every year.
