I show how to weed a garden full of weeds and wood chips in your no till gardening method. that are clear organic methods to control weeds. Learning how to weed a garden without a tiller, plow, or chemicals seems to be one of the biggest complaints about wood chip gardening or the back to eden method but this is easy weeding if the right tools are used and you learn how to weed a garden before planting your fruits and vegetables. To keep a garden weed free in the open outside elements is nearly impossible but but you can certainly have fast, easy, and safe weed control without failures in your easy no till garden. If your doing survival gardening then you might want to obtain what I believe to be the best garden tools around to include in your preps.

guys i have a huge tip: everything he's doing in his garden is great except the 20 minutes of weeding per day that can be avoided. Put woven weed barrier fabric over your woodchips as the topmost layer that you see and walk on. No weeds can get past that and just make little openings where you plants come out of it. This will also help retain some moisture and allow airflow in and out. It is what I do and is a huge difference maker.

You can make a wide Wire Weeder from the wire on a 5 gallon bucket.

Yes if the soil is conducive or airy enough for the wire to penetrate and go through it.

We just moved and started a garden here Iv garden since I was a child. Our new place has a lot of Bermuda grass and grab grass. I’m having horrible time with it and weeds. Iv got a bad back and neck. I got sick for week and they took over that’s been a month ago Iv still not got them under control. I covered the ground as I cleaned up the grass and weeds but it’s still coming up through it. I’m thinking this fall/winter I will cover the garden with plastic all winter. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the great videos, I plant in raised beds and produce my own compost. I have poor ground soil, it looks like sand and pea gravel. I am currently trying to build a ground garden site with ground tree tops (just got 6 dump truck loads and more to come). I think I will throw in lawn clippings, turkey poop and cotton hull which I can get free or cheap! If you have any thoughts feel free to let me know!

I would not use grass clippings unless you can be sure there are no grass seeds in it or I would use them in 'hot' composting First before adding them to your soil base. Unless you don't mind having the grasses growing in your garden area then ignore my thoughts. Thanks.

Our gardens are first year, by that I mean, this was a new broke ground area. We spend 2-3 hours a day pulling weeds. Next year will be different, we are going to go with 20-30 raised beds on a huglekulture base. Love the video Thom.

glad to see/ hear you use LAB and other micro nutrients in the garden, maybe some mushrooms would also help break the chips down. Great job on explaining how/ why your doing what your doing and the probable jump start on a very good soil conversion from clay based to great soil. Do you also add bio-char? Like chips, best to enable them to absorb nutrients in a compost pile (or worm bin) for at least a year before using in the garden.

Quick question. I live a couple miles from a sawmill. I can get endless amounts of sawdust. Would that be ok to till into my new garden? I’m trying to get it ready to plant next spring.

You can use SOME sawdust but I wouldn't use too much. It does pack down a good bit. If it were me ..... I would only add maybe an inch thick at a time and till it in unless your already at a 'no-till' method. I would also introduce more microbes during the off season when you can every other month up to the month before planting.

I know what you mean although the package deal that I got in 2014 is a couple of hundred dollars less now. I just imagine the value and longevity I'm gonna get if I were in a situation where I had no fuel or engines in the future for whatever reasons. ;)
