Easy Trick to Install, Change, or Mount Front Tires on a Zero Turn Lawn Mower Rim How to Change the Tire with Just Basic Hand Tools
Stop fighting with your tiny zero turn front tires! They are a pain to change the tire and mount a replacement! Getting them mounted on the rim is a very big pain in the butt. BUT... there is an easy trick I learned that will help you get it done in less than 10 minutes with just BASIC HAND TOOLS (flathead screwdriver, two pair of vice grips, bench vice and a piece of pipe).
Here are the only things you must have:
(1) Flat-head Screwdriver
(2) Vice-Grips: amzn.to/33MIKpV
These make the job easier:
(1) Bench Vice: amzn.to/2KMhZek
(1) Bead Sealer: amzn.to/2Vh4ANo
(1) Windex Spray: amzn.to/2HXtHSu
Some keywords to make this easier to find:

THe key point of a tire installation that is done by hand is to start with the bead in the channel or center of the rim. The diameter of the wheel is smaller than the tire opening. You can use a very larger zip tie to compress the inner and outer beads together to keep the tire positioned in the channel while installing. For more info check out changing a motorcycle tire using zip ties.

I nearly gave up on installing new front tires on my Exmark walk-behind. I was going to bring them to a local shop thinking they may have equipment for these. I figured I try your method first. I used a few large squeeze clamps to hold the tire down as well as I had the wheel bolted down to my workbench. Got both of them on in a few minutes. I’ve mounted all sorts of tires in the past and these by far were the most difficult tires I’ve ever mounted. I used Hi-Run tires from Tractor Supply if anyone is interested.

I watched several videos like everyone else who’s struggling and the two vice grips is what finally worked. Those thicker walled tyres can be difficult. I use small tyre levers,they grip on the rims and are made to work on small wheels. A snug fitting centre for the wheel in the vice,a good lubricant and care when fitting a tube makes the job easy. If you are new to doing your own wheels do not try too hard. 😆😆😆😆I started getting flats on my 18 year old or so Exmark...I probably dumped a gallon of tire slime in each 13×6.5×6 original Carlisle tire...Well...about three months ago...I found a "DEAL" on two new tires.. This last Saturday morning...I was cutting the grass,and one of the tires went flat....green goo everywhere...I had to put the tire in a vice to break the beads...those 22 year old tires were definitely dry and hard as a rock. To my dismay...once I got the tire off...I found CRAZY rust...i went to cleaning the rust off and the steel around the valve stem was super thin and really out of round....so I went to the inner webs to buy two wheels...no wheels to be found...only tire/wheel deals. I'm not paying over $200 for two replacement wheels for a soon to be 23 year old mower...I'm going to grind the rust out of the inside of the wheels,and coat with polyurethane and put tubes in the new tires... I will definitely use your vice grip technique... Thank you.
@ApacheRanch
@ApacheRanch Жыл бұрын
Yeah now you have me worried as my back wheels are full of slime too. Hope they don’t rust out!! Tubes with slime in them are probably the way to go. Let me know how it works out for you!
@charleszeberlein9547
@charleszeberlein9547 Жыл бұрын
Rear wheels are a different story.. Seems like they're everywhere...for around $140 on the inner webs.. But again...I just can't get my head around spending $280 or so for new wheels for an almost 23 year old mower... Tubes and new tires is my plan. I would recommend glueing a washer inside the wheel to put the valve stem through...especially if the hole is enlarged and rough...just to help keep more moisture from getting in under the tube and causing more rust damage.
