Many thanks for posting this. I ended up using 3 pair of vise grips but either way it was much quicker than any other method.

Wow! What a great idea. My wheels were much softer than yours, but I asked with them for half an hour with no progress before I searched KZfaq and found your video. It took me just a few minutes to do both tires with your method.

Mike, you’re my hero. I spent an hour working with tire irons, wishing I had two more arms/hands; however, after watching your video I found the vice grip idea to be genius! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Your trick with the vise grips saved my life. Sadly the new inner tube I put on the second tire I was working on, exploded.

Brother I feel your pain. I've tried everything you've tried to get my 4" tires to air up minus the bead blaster which I don't have. I ended up putting automitive ultra Grey rtv silicone on one bead, got it to seat, let it dry, put silicone on the other bead and only then was I able to get it to take air. I literally spend nearly a whole day trying to get that tire done only to have someone borrow it without asking. They used it flat and broke the silicone seal on both beads. Now I'm putting a tube in it (the other one already has a tube) but I can't get the tire to go back on the rim so I'll be using your vice grip trick. Say a prayer for me. I don't know how much more I can take before I light the whole thing on fire.

Thank you for the vice grip idea. I have two 4.10x3.50-4 tires and will try this technique next time I change tires. One trick that may help with seating tubeless tires that I’ve used is to take a rope and make a small lasso. Place the loop in the middle of the tire and pull it tight. That moves the walls of the tire out to the rim edge on both sides. Inflate and it should seat quickly. It has always worked for me.

yea i have used ratcheting tie downs but this one was too stiff on the sidewall and would wrinkle and not seat even worse.

My Man!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you a million times!!! I have been struggling for weeks trying to get my 11X4 tire back on the rim. I almost gave up and paid a professional to do it, but I couldn't get past my pride, lol. I'm so glad I found your vid. Three vise grips, only a "few" swear words, and 10 mins later...BOOM! I was installing a tube so I'm hopeful that I didn't nick the tube doing this. Fingers crossed. Thanks again and Happy New Year to you bud!

To get air in a stubborn tire take the valve core out and use the quick disconnect on the air hose directly on the valve stem without anything attach to the air hose and you will get an unobstructed air flow. Once it takes air use your finger over the valve stem to keep the air in it until you get the valve core ready to install.

yea I did that and it was not enough air. flow. with 2 air lines it finally aired up. what a PIA.

Thanks. This gave me some ideas. Will try vise grips. I was able to do one 5" tire, but the other one is beating me, and I'm using a HF mini tire changer. After all this crap, I found out that two new wheel/tire assemblies from a Toro parts dealer would have been about as much as I spent on tires and tubes, not to mention the time and frustration! Add in the tire changer, a tire iron, gas, and frustration... I'm deep in the hole!

One trick I learned working with rubber seals, but also works well with tires, is using corn starch to make the beads and rims slippery. I know it sounds ridiculous but it keeps the mess down and last longer than soap and never gets tacky the way soap does once it starts to dry. The hardest part with these small tires is not wrecking the bead area while prying them around.

IF YOURE PUTTING TUBES IN YOUR TIRES and not going tubeless, get a pair of tin snips and cut the three steel belts that go around the bead. Only thing that worked for me.

I bet the bead blaster would have worked if the fitting hadn't been cracked but you gotta have the clip on air chuck putting air in it while you blast it.

Slide the bead underneath parallel to the rim, don't try to force it directly on at any point. If you start to struggle or have to force it, start over.

Something to go with. Have the same issue-5" tires that don't stretch and bend like those others guys. They look like they are bending around a used Condom where my tire, like your feels like I'm trying to bend a full-size 18-wheeler tire.

To seal the tire on the rim I will tie the rope around the tire and twist it with the stick; it spreads tire toward the rim and compressed air will fill it up with easy

I did that once with a ratchet strap. Worked well but was a Snow Hog tire, much bigger than these royal pain in the neck 4-inchers. Inflate only enough to seat the bead or the ratchet might break and fly off.

I have taken a leather belt around the tire and since it as tight as I could. this pushes the tire against the rim. Added a big blast of air from the compressor and "poped" the rubber to the rim making a good seal. What ever tool you use the goal is to make the center circumference of the tire smaller thus forcing the outer tire diameter against the bead of the rim..

You gotta slip the bead under the edge of the rim at first, get it DEEP into the groove in the rim, and then when it stretches tight, roll the bead so that the part that will ultimately face towards the groove is riding the edge of the rim as it goes on. In other words, the *outside* part of the bead must be in contact with the rim edge as you slip it on. If it is, instead of stretching, the part you put on first will slip all the way into the rim groove. There will be a very tiny bit of stretching at the very end. If the inside of the bead is on the rim edge, it'll stretch tight about halfway on the rim, then stop. Further effort to force it on will tear the bead or bend the rim. Instead, STOP, pop the bead out of the rim, then start over not by pressing downward to start the bead but by pulling sideways and then pushing back the other way to bring the bead in parallel to the rim, not pushing it down. You do have to apply some downward force, but if it's more than enough to lift a glass of water, start over. Once you figure it out, these things pop right on with practically zero effort.

Yea I usually do tires like that.....It is impossible to do it like that with these 4 inch rims. I do know exactly what your saying on a larger rim they go right on. but on those 4 inch stiff tires.
