I noticed that all of the others were the right way ! Nice simple project by the way. Too often the woodworking projects shown on KZfaq seem to assume that everyone has a table saw, and often a load of other tools.

Great vids! I also liked how you have a brief example of a cut with each tool to show how to use each tool as well as also helping to see alternative methods. Regardless of the tool, many times we get so used to doing something a certain way or only using a tool to only do one specific task that we forget how much more we can do with them.

Sleepyfox, I agree with ASliceofWoodWorkshop. A drill and jigsaw are a good way to start.. as far as brands. That is really a matter of opinion. I myself Like Porter Cable and Bosch But others may things another brand is better.. so dont focus on brands rather then the tool itself. If you dont mind hand tools get a handsaw. If you want to use power tools. a drill and jigsaw is a great place to start. Then you can look into a circular saw, a router, and slowly work you way into the craft..

Laney, just fantastic! You've got the time and made your "homework" like Steve told you in Keek. I like your videos because of the details and I think you don't have to Make 5 minutes videos, but it's important to be objective! Keep going Man!

Good stuff, Laney and I'm impressed that you were able to edit this down to just under 9 minutes! I enjoyed watching it and I don't feel as though there's anything obvious missing. I'll check out your uncut version this evening when I have more time (probably around midday for you! ;-)). All I can say now is that I tend not to talk much about tools or cutting operations unless it's something new to my workshop. I'd just make those initial rough cuts. People can always ask to know more. ;-)

Steve, this is an excellent project for the beginning woodworker, due to its simplicity you are only working with 2 boards (unless you want to make more cubes for a built up design) and its basic rabbet joints. I'm trying to picture the 2-1-2-1 configuration.. I do believe it would be a stable design. if there is any question on stability, you could always use small anchors to secure it to the wall. but I do believe you will be fine.

I'm much more inexperienced than even a novice woodworker. How easy would this be for me to tackle? Also, would this unit be stable if you built it up in a 2-1-2-1 type of configuration?

I think is is cool but there are some thiings you would be surprised novice woodworkers would like to know. AKA, when you finished all the boxed and assembled, when you go to add that leveled shelf, how do you keep it in place? How do you make the piece that you clamped down underneath to hold it there? Thanks

No actually I didn't.. I don't free hand often, mostly use my router table and I am used to going Right to left on the table... forgot to reverse my feed free handing... After the first pass, I corrected my direction..

Thanks for the video, I did get a small detail that I was pondering about the other day. I still haven't begun with Woddy Hyezmar's book yet, I've found videos to be better for me, though he is still giving it away, google him.
