Hi Cruisers, Welcome back to yet another Gear-Athon episode. We've kind of been saving this one as it is one of the most feature rich items we'll be reviewing during Gear-Athon. It's the eBags TLS Mother Lode Weekender Convertible, and it's chalked full of convertible goodness. Here are a few of the cool features:
1. Carry on that converts to a backpack
2. Straps can store
3. Removable strap to carry on one
4. Front pocket for boarding passes
5. Water bottle pocket
6. Internal laptop compartment- conceals. Access is through zippered comparmetn on the back
7. Side handle
8. Top pocket, gloves, hat etc'

I own one of these and its exceptional - a couple of thing you did not mention were - the compression straps inside the case as well as outside the case help to maintain shape and size to fit in the overhead bin, the zipper security D-rings that allow you to lock the zippers closed and prevent movement (might be done from the new design), the pacaement of the top pocket is perfect for my "liquids bag" for security, and the use of orange interior fabric allows for contrast and light to help see to the bottom of the pockets more easily. This bag is the best! I am over 50 and I still give up the rolling pullman style case and the convenience for this bag and because I save the weight of the wheels and handle, I can I can carry more clothing. (I do not work for EBags).

My daughter has the junior version. She is at a university in London, and this bag is perfect for trips in Europe when a regular suitcase is not practical...trains, those budget airlines, getting to lodging, and not dealing with cobblestone roadways! She can fit so much into it also.

I love this bag! Bought one years ago. I've taken it on airplanes, trains and buses plus two years of college. Works well in any situation. By far, my favorite travel bag.

I have had the rolling carry-on version of this bag for a few years now and still love it. I've gotten compliments on it, too, when boarding a planes. One of the things I love about the shelf inside the main compartment (mine is more rigid than the one you've reviewed seems to be) is that I can use a camera insert (cube with dividers) for the lower half where your heavier items go, and the top half can be my clothing for a few days away with my photography gear. Something to keep in mind for those traveling shutter bugs out there. There's also basically this bag that rolls AND has hidden backpack straps. Not sure how that would feel actually on my back, but just another consideration for your viewers. Just a big fan of their attention to detail and simple but effective designs.

I've had this backpack since 2011 and use it as my only travel bag for 90% of my travels (maybe 6+wks per year). I haven't had any wear or tear even after its been checked in baggage and through many countries. Very good quality and fits so much

I have the mini version. I love it I was able to use it for several trip. It does fit under the seat . I am going to take it with me on our next cruise.

These backpacks are amazing! My family of 5 has used these as our only luggage for the past 8 years. We did a 3 week cross country trip using nothing but these backpacks. We have 4 of the regular size and 1 junior. I just bought the TLS motherlode 21" mini wheeled bag because I love the TLS bags and it was a great sale. I highly recommend ebags. Also, we used the wheeled mini this past weekend and it held 4 packing cubes, one for me, hubby, and 2 teenage sons, plus toiletries.

I bought this for my Caribbean cruise back in January in that beautiful turquoise color. What I love about this bag is how much I can carry and that it won’t be as likely a candidate for last minute carry on checking. It has really durable fabric too! The ONLY downside is the weight. It isn’t lightweight empty and adding everything for day one of my cruise plus the two bottles of wine made it quite hefty. That all being said, I absolutely love it. So much so that I just ordered the matching Mother Lode TLS junior 25” rolling duffle to use for an upcoming 13 day trip to Europe that includes a 9 day Baltic Cruise (the 29” one was out of stock in turquoise, and I think I can make it with the 25” as long as I pack smart). Also, there is the Mother Lode Weekender Junior backpack that is slightly smaller that you could also consider.

I am 74 years old and a backpacker since the 1960's. This is by far the best backpack I have ever had. I bought mine in 2012 and it has been around the world with me several times. The clasp on the backpack strap finally gave out and broke last year. I emailed Ebags and they sent me a replacement strap at no cost within days. Highly recommended.

I have this bag & took it on my last trip. Fits well in overhead bin. I plan on using for our cruise in Dec & my trip to the UK next summer. Love it. I do tend to pack heavy so it does get kinda heavy at times, my own fault.

I have the Junior version of this . We fly into small airports ( like Exuma ) and my eBags wheeled duffle was hard for me to walk down the stairs with . This has made my life so much easier . I will definitely continue to use my wheeled duffel in airports with a jetway :)

I ❤️ your videos so much! I’m going on a cruise next April for spring break. It’s on the Carnival Horizon and goes to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Ocho Rios. My sister and I own the "junior" version of this backpack. I purchased them for an 11 day trip we were taking. These bags are amazing and held everything we needed. Please note we do pack pretty minimal, but that is a necessity do to the size and weight of our clothing. We are not small women. It was very easy to get through the airports carrying these bags fully loaded and was awesome not to have to stop for our luggage. The organization was amazing and I look forward to our 7 day cruise in October when we can take advantage of using these again.

I just bought this bag (all black)...and I'm in love with it. I'm a flight attendant, and while I won't use this for work, I do travel ALOT (free flights help). This one bag holds everything I'll need for a week or more...and since I fly standy, and there not always alot of room in the overhead bins, this bag is perfect because it's soft enough that I can really cram it into that overhead bin! I have plans on getting their professional slim backpack for a great day pack and work bag.

I got the mother load convertible (the 22") for leisure travel. It will fit in any mainline overhead bin and most regional airline bins. I've thought of getting the Jr. just because it would fit better on the handle of my roll-aboard. But I'll probably get the professional slim bag as a personal item that can become a day pack when I get to my destination or layover.

Update; I got the Professional Slim and LOVE IT! It's become my work bag for my flight attendant essentials...and it's perfect for a weekend trip to Busch Gardens in Florida. Plenty of room for light skincare, one change of clothes, travel camera tripod and more. It all fits perfectly under the seat in front of me. My next purchase is the Motherlode junior.

Thank you for sharing, we love our eBags TLS mother lode weekender convertible. We have used this bag, on domestic flight packed for 5 days, with planning on what to wear. We recently purchased the TLS mother lode with the wheels, also a great option for carryon with wheels.

He was able to pack for a week in the sucker. Granted, took a checked bag for his shoes (the man is worse than a woman when it comes to shoes) but the rest of his clothes were in this. A great purchase that's for sure. :)

I went back and forth on whether to get this convertible or the TLS Mother Lode Mini 21" Wheeled Carry-On Duffel. I loved the fact that this could be a backpack to free up my hands, but in the end the wheels won out and I got the wheeled duffel. I could not be happier with my purchase either. I love the size, the multiple pockets, the divider in the main compartment, and the fact that it has a base on it that lets it stand up without tipping over. I cannot wait to take it on my cruise next month. I might still get the convertible at some point, just to have the option, and because I’ve discovered that I’m a bit of a luggage junkie. It’s an expensive habit, but I cannot stop finding more and more luggage and luggage accessories that I can’t seem to live without!

I got the junior version. It's huge! The plan is to use this as my main bag for a 5-day Alaska cruise, and a 20-liter bag for another 4-day cruise.

Good lord, NEVER keep your passport in that small front pocket!! That's the least secure pocket on the pack by far - you're practically begging to lose your documents!

That seems like a non-issue, because if you walk away from your bag long enough for someone to start looking through the pockets, they'd be able to steal the entire bag anyway.
