Amex is a sucky service and card, I don't even think million/billionaires use Amex Black any more. They are a dying company. Most retail store don't even accept them.

Thats so far from true its crazy... 90% of my wealthy friends all use AMEX... Amex does tens of billions and isn't dying, and MOST retail stores accept them 80%+ Where did you get your info?

@@RockstarFlipper Actually I have Amex, have for 10+ years. So My comment is coming from personal experience. But maybe it depends on where you live as to it's acceptance and usage.

I wonder if buyer initiated payment disputes have anything to do with it. AMEX is great for cardholders when it comes to charge disputes.

I love my Amex. Only thing I can think of because the Charge Back issue. Retailers with a high Charge back rate get charged more per transaction.

eBay is an absolute joke at this point. Was just charged a promoted add fee 8 Days later. Can no longer trust them for anything.. 🙄🤮

This pisses me off. I use my Amex for work purchases and have for almost 10’years. I guess I’ll just use PayPal and use my Amex that way

When I had a brick and morter store, the Amex fee was almost twice that of the other cards. Also, it required that you not ask if the buyer had another card.

A few decades ago AMEX used to charge like a $5 fee to merchants on small sales. I would lose money on sales. They were only ok to take on big ticket sales. Yes it was only 1/2% or so when I lost $5 every once in awhile so I didn't care. Most ebay users are low end buyers so it was rare to have an AMEX sale. I don't think it will hurt AMEX or EBAY. The percents are the same but if they still have a $5 flat fee like they did 25 years ago that could be the reason. I think EBAY made the correct decision on this one to ditch AMEX. When you had a merchant account you were allowed to ditch them as well because of their crazy fee.

This is interesting, here is my recent experience. 2 stores specifically said they charge too many fees. Amex isn’t accepted hardly anywhere around here, pool store, florist, goodwill, Jeffrey Alan’s, Mexican restaurant, and yes Costco. My husband gave me his card to use for shopping this month and it’s been about useless.

It won't matter. Look at Costco they dropped Amex it didnt impact sales. No one has just Amex as their only CC. It won't hurt sales at all

@Dave-zl2ky no they didn't go read any srticle on it. Costco said here's the terms we want lower fees or we go to visa. Amex said no, so costco didn't renew the relationship.

I have like six or seven credit cards in my wallet. If one website don’t take one then I just use a different one. I don’t even really think about it. I don’t think this is gonna matter much to most people.

Again bad decisions on eBay behalf. I’ve had Amex for 39 years. If you have issues they immediately intervene… this is most likely the reason. That’s a shame. Another reason I STOPPED completely from selling on eBay. They initiated the TAX levy and I said goodbye. You picked something up pay taxes on it resell it snd taxed again. If more folks complained they might take a different stance on the Amex situation..

A lot of wealthy people are in bed with AMEX. This is going to hurt. Will the consumer have enough motivation to put in a different method of payment or just pass on the purchase?

Surprised/Not surprised. AMEX has always been more expensive for businesses to accept. They charge around 1% more than the others. Doesn't sound like much but that's an extra $1000 bucks eBay has to give up for every $100,000 of Amex charges. That's a s**tload of money at the end of the quarter. Diner's Card is still around. Not big over here, but can be used anywhere MC is accepted.

The majority of people have no idea how much credit card transaction fees have driven the cost of everything up, especially credit cards with higher fees like Amex and "rewards" credit cards. Just another wealth transfer and ripoff.
