Thank you for joining me on another eBay Miniature Rescue! This week I strip and paint some Grundstok Thunderers from the Kharadron Overlords army in Age of Sigmar. I found these models for $20 on eBay and decided to give them a try.
I also talk a little bit about picking color schemes, basic color wheel stuff for the most part, and I showcase a technique for painting heat damage on guns.

It really is lol. I’m not sure why these took longer. The last few I’ve done worked no problem within a day. I have since switched to LAs Totally Awesome, which is a seriously heavy duty cleaner. Takes about 15 minutes in the sonic cleaner to get almost everything off. I’ve heard a lot about iso, I’m gonna get some of that and see if it’s the same or better than what I’ve switched to. Thanks for the tip!

Not sure if you have Dettol disinfectant where you are but here in Australia its everywhere. Brilliant stuff for getting paint off. I had a set of metal Space Orks I painted in the 80's with Tamiya and Humbrol enamels as well as some acrylics. Cleaned it all off in 20 minutes just soaking in a container. Safe and doesn't damage anything metal or plastic. Love the channel and your work 😊

@@eBayMiniatureRescues All these recommendations made me think, perhaps you should do a collaboration video on stripping models and what (except for the ultrasonic cleaner) is the most efficiant liquid (and its price for certain regions). I looked up LAs Totally Awesome, but 25€ for 700ml (on Amazon at that time) was pretty heavy. I got 5l Isopropanol (99.9%) for less. I also tried some other "recommendations" found on KZfaq, but in Germany they seem to be "less acid" so they make them shiny clean, but leaves the colour intact.

Thanks! Haha I’m nervous too, hoping I’m not going to screw up an almost finished paint job. Overspray does happen from time to time, usually when I’m rushing or not looking at the whole model, but if you move it around and shoot in the right direction you can usually avoid it :) In the snuffler video I made a while back I oversprayed pretty hard onto a yellow cloak, but luckily it came out kind of like an OSL effect, so sometimes it can work out lol.

Thanks! Check your connections, if they are leaking at the threads then you just need some Teflon tape to wrap before screwing them on, that should stop any leaks, if it’s out of a seam above the threads, you probably just need a new regulator. :)

What do you say about Ittens chart colour is mostly accurate but you should keep in mind that those colpirà in order to be balanced and show off the true result you are seekin for need to be compensated in an actual and punctual percenteage (for example for yellow is 82 per cent yellow 18 per cent purple... blue is 42 and 58 orange an so on...) otherwise is going to be clutched and messy. mate if you wanna strip models a better option is methelated spirits works in like 10 mins just drop anything in bar finecast wait like 5 mins scrub the models then put back in for like 5-10 mins n scrub again n it should be bear plastic hope that helps you out bud. also quick note its less messy that most striping and infact you can pour the spirits back into the bottle minus the bits in the bottom for later use

Have you ever gotten metalminis, that have this sort of 'tin-rust' on them? Are those salvageble too?
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 5 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen pictures of that, never gotten one myself, but I have to imagine that putting it into a cleaner would take care of that, unless the rust has eaten away the metal too hard. You could try some CLR cleaner, that stuff eats through rust but keeps the metals intact. That’s what I would try, but I’ve never done that before, so maybe try posting in some warhammer groups to see if anyone else has the correct solution :)

If you're interested I'd like to hear what you have to say about stripping models. Hearing your thoughts/advice on it would be very helpful. I know sometimes you make a point to not strip minis. So hearing about that or maybe even recommendations on getting a sonic cleaner.
@eBayMiniatureRescues

It’s in the plans to make a video about stripping models. I’m waiting in a new sonic cleaner in the mail right now so I’m trying some new stuff out. I should have something pretty soon on stripping :) For now, using LAs Totally Awesome in a sonic cleaner is my go to, isopropyl alcohol if you don’t have one. As far as not stripping models, I only do so when the base coat has just been started, Usually with some kind of airbrushing, and not too thick, I’ve done some experiments with painted on garbage base coats that were interesting, but if it’s thick, I’ll strip it and start over. Hope that helps for now!!

I had to cut off a backpack piece from a dark reaper when my cat decided to play soccer with it while I was at work. I found a banner stand from another set that I was able to glue in place. Though I'll need to look at stripping it to get the paint looking nice again.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 4 жыл бұрын
If something breaks it can be pretty hard to fix it without repainting the whole model. If you dip a toothbrush in isopropyl alcohol and clean the area around the break you can probably save most of the model, re glue the piece and use a brush on primer to fill it all in, then try and match the paint job. Of course, just getting the whole thing down to metal or plastic gives you the opportunity to fix everything and try again.

I’m having a small issue, when I wash the Gold the pigments slide off. Did you have that issue at all? Don’t have Black airbrush primer so I’m using Grey airbrush primer and going over that with thinned down Abbadon black.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, it’s possible that you just need to let it dry a little longer before washing. Sometimes the wash can activate the paint layer underneath, especially if you use water to thin it a little. I would suggest letting the gold dry a little longer and see if that works. You could also use a varnish to seal everything before the wash. Most of the time doing that will get you a better result anyway, the surface tension is reduced and the wash works even better, and the chance of something like pigments moving around would be gone. As far as primer goes, using grey and then painting black is great, it shouldn’t have any negative effects on metallics.

Best thing in this god forsaken chemical, it's ability to often clear miniature to plain grey plastic. I thinked about it just when I saw, that after long time, you still got undercoat on these Kharadrons. If this stuff is selled outside Polad/EU, really try it!

Yes it’s simple green, which I don’t think is available anywhere except over here, but like the others have said, methylated spirits, or even isopropyl alcohol is supposed to be pretty good and widely available. It’s also probably something to note that the simple green doesn’t work as well as I was hoping it would. I have since switched to something called (no joke) “Awesome!” Cleaner. It works a lot better than simple green. But again...probably not available to you.
