4 жыл бұрынThis week we take a look at the ever dapper, Brokk Grungsson, yes 2 S'...forgive my error in the video, got the title though :)
This model was sent in by Matt H. He painted this model a while back and said he just wasn't happy with the result. I did a few things to fix up the model and gave it a fresh coat of paint to match the Overlords I painted on the channel a while back. Speaking of which, heres that link!

Would have loved a rescue where you took the base paint job and showed use how the highlights and washes would make it look better

Awesome job! The most fun I've had painting is on a DUST 1947 Mercenary Gun Crew. I had a DUST mini that was a woman in a bikini with a mop, I converted her to carry a submachine-gun and a knife, enjoyed using glazes and flesh wash on her skin tone, and put a tiny waterslide decal on her booty to look like a tattoo. The DUST creator himself saw and liked the photos I shared.

I had a load of fun painting my keeper of secrets. Used chameleon paints on cloaks and the putty ground to look like corruption. The dirt ripping and tearing away as it casually strolled to its next victim

The last model i painted was super fun. It was a 40k chaos sorcerer with a plasma pistol. It just has so much personality and adding each little detail to it just made for a better model in total.

man i really love your work. my last model i built a beast of nurgle was super fun to paint. i got a little creative and made more fleshy than green and it turned out pretty cool.

Great model. You did excellent work. I also like working with washes and metallics. Recently I painted Tech priest dominos by GW using washes, metallics to paint armor and metal parts and makeup brush to paint read cloak. It was really fun.

I am a big KO fan, so you already had me at the start. You could also make the stand something more metallic like he was digging something up and the stand was the claw used to grab the ore. Thanks for another fun watch!

I love the way you actually think about a complimentary 'theme' with your models. These guys look suitable steam punk and the colour choices compliment that. In your sisters of battle video, it was a parchment palette, and that suited those figures.

I did an emperor's champion on a wood chip painted like rock with severed pieces of every other faction littered around the base. It's amateurish, but I love it.

I have an Onager Crawler that was actually my first 40k model that I was going for a bronze look and based it wrong. At that point I was like you know what the story is that it is secretly an AI that has been cobbling itself together with salvaged parts. At that point it became this interesting metallic mismatch except for the parts the arm couldn't reach.

Maybe he is standing over a small area of "the special ore" and it is a tube trying to absorb the energy from it to power the beefy armor

Using a brown primer for gold is a good trick too. Then brown or a red brown wash depending on the affect you’re going for

Great stuff! But I think you should definitely fix the flight stand. I've got a Q for you - what do you use to thin GW paints for airbrushing, and have you encountered any particular issues using base Vs layer paints that way? Looking forward to the next video!

I use Vallejo flow improver and a little water, works great for pretty much any paint. There are some colors that don’t work as well, most whites are chalky, but base vs layer doesn’t seem to matter all that much, they are both thick for the airbrush so a little more or less flow improver or water is needed, I just eyeball it and test it on paper until I’m happy with how it shoots. Hope that helps!

I've been buying a lot of used stuff lately to build a Raven Guard army for 40K. Which I can also use for Kill Team. And I've bought used stuff for Kill Team as well. And I gotta say the LA's Totally Awesome and Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner has been a great one two punch to get stuff stripped for paint. I just scrub stuff with hot water, dish soap, and a toothbrush after the sonic bath and 99.9% of it comes right off.

Yeah, 2.5 liter model for about $70? $80? If I recall right. I grabbed it partly for this. But it also works well to help clean gummed up airbrushes. Clean mechanical parts. And I do some jewelry making and it helps clean stuff during that process.

I know you did some oil pin washes in the past but have you ever tried an all over oil wash? It looks really good on large mostly metallic models like that

As someone tempted to pick up figure painting again but never worked with an airbrush, what is a good starter kit for an airbrush, and would you know any good starter guides on using an airbrush?

There are a few channels that have full videos on starting to airbrush, I haven’t gotten around to making one yet lol. I did do a video a few months ago on buying a cheap brush, and that has a little info. Pretty much it depends on your budget. I recommend getting a compressor from amazon, something with a regulator, moisture trap, and an air tank, you can get them for a pretty reasonable price, and as long as it has those things you’ll be good to go for a long time. The brush, I would check out the Neo Iwata, it’s inexpensive and parts are easy to get at places like Hobby Lobby, otherwise if you are down to spend around $100 I would suggest a Badger patriot. You can also go the route I did when I started and pick up Master G22 kit on Amazon, you can get a low end compressor and $20 airbrush for something like $75. They work, and are good to learn on, but they will break eventually. Hope that helps! If you want a deep dive with videos I would suggest checking out Next Level Painting, Kenny has some awesome intro to airbrush videos and almost all of his videos feature airbrushing. That’s where I started and it’s been a very big help!

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thanks a million mate! I used to paint and play back in the 90's and I always found it relaxing and rewarding to paint my figures then and to see the result. I'm not that interested in playing now, but I do miss the painting (and with a bigger budget on buying figures, being an adult with a job and actual income I'm tempted). Might set up a bit of a hobby corner and get back to it. I sure do miss it :)

what was the stick you used to smooth the lines? looks much better to use than a exacto and chopping fingers :D

It’s a sanding stick, it’s kind of spongy and both sides are sand paper, very useful!

Check Amazon or Google for super glue Debonder, there are several brands that break up superglue very nicely without hurting your plastic models :)

I’d love to make a video showing how it’s all done, it’s not a super complicated process, which is pretty nice. I buy intros that work in after effects and change what I need to make it work. So for the regular EMR intro I render a new version for each video, the learn paint one is short and always the same, so I don’t have to do anything crazy to it now that it’s done. For everything else I shoot on my iPhone XS Max and edit in IMovie, then once the main edit is done I output it to my computer and work in premiere pro for the final edit and output.

I feel that if you are claiming you are going for better than tabletop standard you ought to at least edge highlight the purple bits. Also the base simply looked incomplete because you never painted half of it! A tip for painting gold would be to paint it brown first. Such as citadels xv88. The gold paint looked a little anemic and speckly tbh. Overall, not one of your best I'm afraid.

Thanks for the feedback, the gold does seem to have large metallic flakes in it, looks better in normal light, but a brown undercoat would probably work better than black. In this case I was shooting for a regular tabletop standard, so I didn’t go into a ton of detail edge highlighting the purple or anything. I wanted to push it just a little beyond with the blue, but it’s still just a basic piece for the table. Definitely not the best thing I’ve painted lol, but it was fun :)

I like your channel but 40k is not my thing. The models are are too umm elaborate for my taste and look well meh. You paint is cool just the G.W. models too (words) tedious and ridiculous for future combat. That is just my opinion. Keep up the grsat work it is still inspirationly informatve. Cheers
