The purpose of my channel is to document my cancer journey to look back on, and/or help anyone else going through anything similar. It is also to potentially help loved ones supporting those who are in this fight as well. My main goal is to have footage of this journey for my husband and children to look back on. I originally created this channel as a sort of video diary for my family.
Thank you so much for following along on this journey. Your love and support help me so much.

I found out I had lung cancer in 2017. I found out by going for my simple one year physical exam. I had a routine chest X-ray. The tech came out and asked me how long I had the growth in my right lung. The fun began! I went to Emory to see a pulmonologist. Then I had an appointment with a thoracic surgeon. He recommended aggressive surgery to remove the tumor. I couldn’t believe I had lung cancer because I’ve never smoked. I requested a pet scan to prove it was cancer. The tumor was in my right upper lobe and boy did it light up which proved it was cancer. I found a surgeon that did VATS because I didn’t want my chest cracked open. So on 2/27/17 I had surgery to remove the upper right lobe which contained the tumor. I was in intensive care for 7 days with a chest tube. The chest tube was so painful! The bad news was that when I was home in recovery my surgeon called me and said 3 of the lymph nodes they had taken out showed cancer. My surgeon decided that I would have a CT with contrast once a year. My 5th ct in being done 8/18/22. I’ve been single for 15 years so my daughter goes with me for moral support. Wish me continued success. I found your channel and wanted to support you. I’m 68 now was 62 when it was first found.✝️❤️💕

I've had 3 echoes. I've never been attacked with a brillo pad(?) and no one had ever pushed so hard with the wand to hurt me. Please speak up, Jenny. One thing I've learned as I've gotten older is that you have to be your own advocate. Nicely, of course, but she needs to know! If not for your own comfort, think of the poor next person in your shoes. You & Kyle are just the best!💖

That technician who is hurting you needs to be reported to the state medical ombudsman. She sounds like a sadist. They exist.
@pkmnc1867

Its really important to be honest on your experiences, not just when they are testing you but also the experience during the test. Those nurses that dont get a complaint about their technique, will not know they are doing it wrong. Patients are the key for patient care and when people are being "nice" and dont want to "complain" will only hinder the care you really need. Trust me, your not complaining if you mention your concerns. As long as your concerns are constructive and considerate, it will be received well and that person can learn. Even if she says that this is the way to do it for accurate results, then request another nurse who doesn't need that much force (because you experienced that before and the results were not hindered by that technique) Dont be afraid to speak up!! This is your health!

I have had ECG 's and have never been scrubbed , she seems like a brute. You seem like a genuinely gentle sweet person but you have to stick up for yourself. These people are supposed to be caring, they shouldn't be hurting you. I am so sorry for what you are being put through.

I’m a nurse, I’ve had numerous echocardiograms, you absolutely NEED to call and ask to speak with her supervisor and let them know of her technique. It MUST be addressed. She needs to learn to be more gentle. The same with the abrasive pad. It is uncomfortable but shouldn’t be so painful. Addendum: also, as a health care professional, I would be appalled to find out I had been unintentionally hurting someone and would 100% want to know. Any ethical health care professionals would feel the same way. It was negligent on her part 1. Not to take note of your non verbal cues that you might be in pain and 2. Negligent to not ask you about pain/comfort during the procedure.

Jenny, there is definitely no need for it to hurt. I know how hard it is to speak up because I am the same way. But I have learned over the years, that I have to advocate for myself no matter how uncomfortable it may feel. Being able to speak to all of my providers has made my health journey & mental wellness, so much better. I love the ways your hubby supports you....it's beautiful! My hubby does too, but in different ways. I really wish my hubby could throw in emotional support too, but sadly its just not who he is. I do appreciate all he does to support me & my journey....our journey. I have a lung biopsy on Aug 15th to see what the mass is in my right lung. I'm trying not to think about what it could be. My prayers are with you for your broncoscopy & every day as well. Hang in there my friend. You are stronger than you realize. 🤗💗💗💗

I can imagine, you already feel somewhat out of control because of the cancer diagnosis. Having a nurse tech impartial to the pain and emotional stress you are feeling doesn't help. It's ok to let medical personnel know if they hurt you, or cause you stress! Self advocacy is the only thing you can control in those critical moments. For your own mental and emotional health. You deserve it. 😊

Wow Jenny you are so strong!! First let me say that I'm so happy and relieved that you got the ring 💍 off!! Now as for the wand jabbing nurse REQUEST FOR A DIFFERENT NURSE. The reason I say that is you've had the procedure done a few times by others and weren't put through the pain like this one has put you through. If you had experienced the same with all nurses than I'd say that it's a normal but painful process. Since it happened only with her the common denominator is HER. I'm praying for you to get a different one for the next time you have to do any testing 🙏.

I know the hard thing is you have to continually adjust your life to modify the damage you feel each day and sometimes it just takes that one extra step at the doctor's office that throws your balance off. For me I have to rest every two hours and it's hard to even get out of bed. I think sometimes people don't realize that you have to recover from the tests too on top of the cancer. Hang in there! You can remove tight rings with string. Slip the end underneath the ring and wrap the string around your finger towards the tip. Then unwrap the string from the piece you put underneath. The ring will come off like it is working up a corkscrew. I've used this as a funeral director. I think there are some You Tube videos on it, too.

The finger is pretty puffy. Safest approach would be to go to a jeweler. The string tricks work but you have to know what you’re doing. If you get it stuck halfway on/halfway off you’ll be in trouble. I’ve removed many rings using the string trick (umbilical tape) and also using a ring cutter, both manual and battery powered. Jeweler!

I agree with your husband...you must tell them if they are hurting you! Absolutely! Be an advocate for yourself. Please. Also, they don't need to use a brillo pad to clean a spot for the sticky patches....they can use alcohol swabs to clean your skin of any oils so that the pads stick. I'm glad you got your rings off! I was going to suggest you just get your rings cut off...and it's an easy repair that doesn't cost much. I had that done a few years ago....opened the front door of an Arby's restaurant and while still holding onto the door, the door smashed open onto the outside wall, bending my rings so out of shape I couldn't remove them. Went to a jewelry store right away and they cut them off for me. Nothing like a little drama! ha! Sending prayers for you...all will be ok.

You need to be a advocate for yourself. If it hurts tell them. I’m a nurse and I would want to know so I could change my technique. We take a oath not to cause harm or unnecessary pain to our patients. Please stand up for yourself, some things hurt and some don’t. I would mention your your echo experience to your doctor. You should not feel discouraged. I would have left the cup of water! Lol 😂 Next time ask for cold water!!!!! God bless you you and your family are in my prayers . Your husband is the best !!!!!

So sorry about the pain you've experienced. You should definitely address this problem with City of Hope administration. The tech who performed this procedure may need additional training. Take care.

The only way I can get my ring off when it swells like that is put something really oily on it. Ugh I hate you have to feel so much pain from that lady. You better speak up if that happens again. You are to sweet and precious. I laughed so hard when she gave you hot water lol.

What a horrible nurse!!! I’d say of the 99% of wonderful nurses I’ve had care for me, there was 1 nurse i seriously kicked her horrible self out of my rooms and told her to never come back! You are you best advocate and the only one who knows how your body feels. And sweet lady, if you report her you may be preventing her from hurting someone else. Always do the right thing even when it’s tough!

💜 please, please, advocate for yourself Jenny. It won’t always be easy, but there’s no reason to put up with medical staff making it worse for no apparent reason. Sadly, I’ve had to much experience with this. Thanks for sharing your feelings. 💜🙏🏻
