I’ve just read your ‘my food-losophy’ blog. I couldn’t stop reading it - it has been addressed so well, covering every part of the argument. Thank you for taking the time to air this seemingly taboo subject. It worries me that fake meat and cheeses are entering the market to make money for someone and they are being cleverly but completely falsely marketed as the eco friendly option! Does a person eating these foods look at the ingredients label? It worries me. I remember 50 - 60 years ago we were told what to eat and look where that has got us - many people suffering diabetes and cancer etc etc. We thought if the government tells us this was safe well it must be! LOL As a human we are also omnivores naturally and I believe we all need to do things naturally for our health and the good of the planet we call home. And eat organic.

I am vegan but I think anything people can do to reduce the impact on the environment is better than nothing. I think we can all learn from each other and if we each contribute our bit, we will gradually make big changes. Do not judge what others do (yes, she consumes animal products but many vegans do not watch how much plastic they use every day, and yes until I discovered this girl I was not aware of it). What I want to say is that it is better to appreciate that she cares about zero waste and who knows, maybe one day she also decides to become vegan;) everything in due time. I honestly admire her, because you have to be eager to travel around London to find Zero Waste shops.

I totally agree with you. I really dislike this “all-or-nothing”-attitude of some people. Like you could reduce your waste by 80%, but people will make you feel like crap for the remaining 20%...jeez, I’m only human, give me a break, I’m trying!

Love watching zero waste food shopping hauls, makes me so motivated and inspired. All the comments bellow seem to be a huge argument about veganism or not. You should do what you feel is best for you, keeping in mind whats best for your body and the environment. You're clearly so environmentally concious, you're amazing!!

I truely believe in the need of zero waste lifestyle (to protect our earth, all food sources, water sources, oceans, forests, wildlife, clean air...) BUT...living zero waste is expensive. I am practising to be a vegetarian for the last 7 -8 months and trying my very best to switch to zero waste lifestyle... I live at the edge of South London and Surrey. I need to travel a lot to find unpackaged food and drinks. I stopped buying fruit juice.etc..for this reason. But I cant shop from the shop Ann shows here all the time. My budget is not enough. I cant shop from whole foods all the time. My budget is not enough... If I had a family of 4 or 5, my budget would be impossible.. I,for example, cant pay 3.50 or 4.00 pounds for a loaf of bread. In these shops this is almost the lowest price. I tried farmers market in Wimbledon..Ended up paying 7 pounds to tomatoes that hardly filled two hands...I raise vegetables and try to bake my bread a lot of times but I also work 6 days a week and sometimes it is impossible to find the time for evetything... I love zero waste lifestyle.I am not critising how much zero waste shoppers spend on more expensive shops/markets.. If your budget is okay then you are cool and I am happy for you....But if zero waste is a need more people should apply, then we need more shops and bulk shop corners on reasonable prices.. In every country.... I appreciate the video and love the spirit.. There is a long way to go for us small budget zero waste shoppers...💛💛💛

If I may make a suggestion with great love and respect. It’s disheartening to read in the comments Vegans policing how other people live their lives. When we stop trying to control other people’s actions we create more space to love each other, as a result, developing more loving relationships with people and ourselves. If we take the ego out of veganism perhaps having people strive for a more environmentally friendly lifestyle helps the animals and humans. Thank you for the video.

Some of my earliest environmental influences came from a year living in Germany in the early 90s. I still have some of the cloth bags nearly 30 years later and they're amazing. Recycling was, in my opinion, way ahead of The UK but we're certainly improving and doing more, which is great.

Love, love, love your channel! Your video on your kitchen really inspired me. When my electric coffee maker broke I decided to go straight to a stovetop percolator same for my electric kettle now I just have a kettle for the stove top. Such better choices than having things that break and end up in a landfill. I also fell in love with your toaster and didn't even think I could get one because I live in the United States. Thank heaven for Amazon. I am now the proud owner of a four slice Dualit toaster (bigger family here) Mine by the way was made by a nice gentleman named John in Great Britain. I love the fact that it can be repaired. You bring some really amazing ideas please keep it up. Just on a side note I was a vegetarian for a long time and stepped away from it for health reasons.. I too am careful about the meat products that I buy and how they are raised and butchered. So thanks for all you do!

I'm vegan, too, and yes, my first reaction was also 'butcher? what on earth...', but actually: I am so, so, so glad for anyone doing anything for our planet, and actually Kate is helping people who eat meat do a little something for the environment. What good does it do to consume meat AND plastic, when the two needn't be dependent on one another.

I've been starting to think about reducing waste, especially after I found my country to be one of the biggest waste producers. I pretty much instantly sunk into depression trying to figure out how such life could even be possible and how much of the economy would have to change. This video at least inspired me to work on my own part. One question though, how much time do you spend on planing, shopping, and cooking per month? Time is about the biggest factor keeping me and probably most people from choosing such a lifestyle. I spend 5-12 hours a month, that's 10-30 minutes a day, and still feels tedious. I don't suppose that's beatable.

OMG so jealous! here in milan it's so difficult to shop zero waste, there's just one shop really (40 minutes by bus from my home) - at the farmer's market they put produce in plastic bags! and in other shop that shoul be zero waste they force you to use their bags (PLASTIC OF COURSE). I think I should open a sensible shop myself :D

Dear Kate, Love your videos! Just in case you don't know this: once you have peeled your kohlrabi, you can actually eat it raw (grown up with them in Germany but sadly up here in Manchester not so readily available). Otherwise they are also nice cooked with a roux or you could steam them by themselves. Your efforts to go plastic free are totally, totally laudable and inspiring. It's given me lots of ideas of how to improve myself!!! And I agree that we should operate a 'live and let live' policy. Pressuring anyone into doing things is wrong. My body, for example, is not coping very well with cutting out all animal products and whilst I definitely don't eat meat I do best when eating fish occasionally (but experimenting again with switching to quorn products, which are now available in many more varieties than in the past. I will have to see how that goes).

Vegan guys! Please stop telling her to stop eating meat. Instead please focus on not using plastic packaging. I'm sorry to say but a LOT of vegans think the're superior to any meat eater and still think it's less harmfull for the environment to eat veggies wrapped in plastic. Which btw will stay with your gandchildrens grandchildren and will be poisoning them even if the world would be all vegan by then. And also plastic pieces cause marine life damage in a long term. These extremly high standards of who is the "true environmentalist" are very hard to follow. Just think how many vegans are "true vegans" if you consider plastic-users-marine-life-killers non vegans?! So maybe you should stop pointing fingers. Ps. I'm sorry if this comment is harsh. I did't want to offend any vegan, I myself am a non meat eater and I am so tired of these unrealistic approaches. Love your video!

Hi there, just wanted to share my experience, I've been vegan for about a year and a half and I've recently been focusing a lot more on whole foods and working out more and my period has gone from a hellish 10 day stint to a way more manageable 6 day experience. Switching to organic pads has helped as well. I have a condition called PCOS which messes with my period and stuff, but I would really suggest staying away from all animal products cause youre putting hormones into your body we're just not meant to have. Hope things regulate for you!

Where I live (Italy) shopping in bulk is usually more expensive than packaged goods! Insane

IKR? No packaging should make those products cheaper and yet the price tags in those bulk stores can be ridiculous. As s long as it is the case, I will still buy some items like nuts and grains in packaging.

where do you buy water or you filter it? it is just crazy amount of filters on UK market. I am so confused and even I am not sure I will go totally 100 % zero waste, water from plastic bottles drives me crazy.

100% zero-waste lifestyle is nearly impossible for humans . i usually call it as minimal-waste lifestyle . you can purchase a water filter because that's much better . but i usually filter my water and then boils it . just so you know , filtering the water doesn't kill the microorganisms . it just remove the suspended particles like sand or dirt . boiling it will kill the microorganisms .

99% of the comments are telling vegans to stop harassing her for eating meat but I have not seen a single comment from a vegan shaming her for eating meat. Omg.

I'm vegan myself but any judgemental, aggressive comments are uncalled for. We can be compassionate with each other :) I want to share respectfully, a quote from the UN - 'a global shift towards a vegan diet is vital to save the world from hunger, fuel poverty, and the worst impacts of climate change' So it is important, and anybody wanting to be more eco friendly and sustainable should look at reducing animal products :) Continuing to eat meat everyday, for example, wouldn't really fit with environmentalism in my opinion. But gradual change is best, do things at your pace, and we can all support each other :) (and be nice! Let's stop the smug and aggressive comments!)

Highly doubt grocery stores are gonna let you bring your own egg carton. Like no stores let you do this except a few hipster stores.
