Ed "Isky" Iskenderian's Story. 101 Birthday Party, Car Show and Interview. What Does Ed Mean To You?

In this video, the Garagefathers were honored to officially cover Ed Iskenderians's 101st birthday party and relay his story in their new series called Hot Rod Legends. At the show there were dozens of big name icons from drag racings richest history. Don Garlit's Swamp Rat 3, Sonny Messner, Jr. Thompson's Son, Tommy Thompson, Pete Millar's Daughter, Robin, just to name a few. Ed Iskenderian gives us his colorful memory of the history of drag racing, and how it all started, and fits together.

Called Isky in the Early 90s to get a cam for a Datsun 2 liter. Guy picks up the phone, I tell him what I want and ask for his recommendation. He treats me like I was buying ten cams and all the trimmings. I finally ask who I,m talking to, Ron he answers, Ron Iskenderian. Folks, the owners son treated me like I was his only customer that day. That comes from an upbringing that fosters respect. I can,t get over the idea that this Man built a dominant company, at the same time raised kids that gave all their customers respect.. What a guy!!

My Isky Z-33 cam is still running strong 40 years later this year in my Chevy 427 in my 1966 Chevelle which is my first car that I bought 43 years ago. Thanks Ed!

@@ThomasELeClair it was my daily driver for 2-3 years so I’d guess 20-25,000. I haven’t driven it a lot since. It still runs great.

He is my father's cousin, and his grandfather is called Melcon. The parents fled the Armenian Genocide and went to California. My father came to Brazil after passing through Argentina. Destiny is like that, choices define our lives. Another 100 years of life to the Armenian ed Iskenderian. Abriss.

My first phone call to Iskenderian's to order parts was answered by Ed himself, unbeknownst to me. I only needed a pair of roller lifters that failed on first fire up. Installed dry. He told me they came as a full V8 set. I explained what happened, he asked me for the cam #s and he'd send me both lifters for less than $15. A 17 year old kid in 1969 I was talking to the man himself. In three words, "A great man" Thank you Ed and Happy Birthday!!

Your story is similar to many we have heard since spending time with Ed. He is an amazing human being.
