I just want to share with my quilting/embroidery friends to Please create a sample Sandwich to test your Tension before putting the quilt under the needle. I used another competitors' design and stitched out a few rows and have to rip it all out due to EYELASHES and where there's a V design you can see the topstitch pulled. No one in all of the youtubes I searched showed doing this beforehand. So learn from my mistakes. I was so excited about starting to quilt by my embroidery machine I went from one to the other. Note: I have quilted one before without any problems. I don't know why this was different. Plus someone suggested stitching over the tail ends and this created knots all over the back! So I looked up Leah Day's utubes on burying the threads and then no one can see where you started each section and will make sure I do it this way. So I'm chalking this up as yet another learning experience!! So I'll go slower, wind top thread on the bobbin using the same color, and I'm sure I had a new needle when I started. Happy Quilting!

Thanks for sharing your comments, Mary. However, I am afraid that you are sharing comments about another company’s designs and their youtube support on my channel. These comments do not really apply to my product. In our book, Edge to Edge Quilting on Your Embroidery Machine, we discuss knots on page 4. We do not talk about tension in the book, because that is a machine issue, not a design issue. Occasionally though, our customers reach out to us about tension issues and we help them as much as we can. Here are some general ideas we share with our customers about eye-lashing, when they reach out to us. Eye-lashing is ALWAYS a machine tension issue. Your bobbin tension is too tight, and it is pulling the top thread to the back. You may also need to clean out your bobbin area. All of my designs have a knot programmed into the beginning and end of each pattern. There is no need to stitch over stitches with my designs. In fact, I recommend in my book/classes that you have the two points “kissing”, not overlapping. It will look better on the back. Last, I with my designs there is no need to slow down my machine! I hope this is helpful!

I have been playing with this all day, and now I think I have got it. Since I have a 12 needle emb. machine, I had to figure out a few things. Settings are a bit different. I am going to see if reducing design A, and then reducing design B, the exact same amount, will work. I have a 10 inch magnetic hoop that holds a quilt sandwich very tightly, and I want to make the design a bit smaller to fit in it. I think this idea is genius and I am going to use it on the quilt I am making now. Really cool! I am going to buy expansion packs as well. We can do so many things now on our emb. machines!! I just cannot figure out how to bring up my bobbin thread on a 12 needle. It does not have a needle-down position. I am going to call tech support and see if they can help me. If anyone knows, I welcome suggestions!

I have a Brother SE 400 which has a max 4x4 hoop. I just discovered quilting on my embroidery machine yesterday. After watching a few other videos here on KZfaq I'm really excited to try this technique. I am always disappoint when designs are not available for my machine. I have had some success using a iPad program to split designs or lift element out of a design and reconstructing them in multiple hoopings. I wish designers would just consider us little guys sometimes. Even people who own the monster embroidery machines may find smaller designs useful for some projects. I love this method and found this video very helpful. I'd probably buy the book, if I knew that I could use the designs.

Pat -- a few months ago, our last functioning disk duplicator died, and we had to shift to downloads using a serial number. The problem was, we still had books that said "CD" on the front cover. We didn't want to throw away over $1000 of books, so we added a sticker to the back inside cover with download instructions, and hoped that people would forgive us. If your book doesn't have a sticker and a serial number in the inside cover, please email a picture of your book to support@ameliescott.com, and I'll help. -- Mark

I purchased your book today and am anxious to get started. I sent a question to one of the You Tube presenters of your method and I wanted to check her answer with you. I already have my quilt top done WITH TWO BORDERS. I asked if I could do your edge to edge with borders already sewn on. The answer I got was that I could do the edge to edge quilting and stop before the borders begin or I could extend the quilting to the ends of the border. In all the hundreds of quilts I've done, the borders were always a different stitch/design. Is quilting the borders and quilt top in one continuous pattern something new? What do you suggest.
@AmelieScott
@AmelieScott 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Grace1. Love your name. So edge to edge quilting goes from one end of the quilt to the other end with one design over the entire quilt. This includes borders. When you start doing a different design on a border, then you are talking about custom quilting. Many people have asked me to creat border designs to go with the existing designs, but this has always been a difficult concept un until this week. I have just started working on a new book that will include edge to edge in the center, with border designs. In the meantime, you can stop the design right before it gets to the border, but in a few months, I will have an easy and beautiful solution.

What I was asking: Is it acceptable to do edge-to-edge to include the borders? I think I would like to try that method.

@sarawalden3873
@sarawalden3873 7 жыл бұрын
It would depend on what size designs or the size of your frames for your machine. I hope this makes sense. Check your owners manual to see which size you can use.
@AmelieScott

I always use the largest file for my machine when I am quilting a quilt because I have less hooping. We give the files in 3 different sizes because not every machine can accommodate a 13.5" x 7.25" design. Please check your manual to see what size design your machine can accommodate. The sizes are 5.5" X 10", 6.5" x 11.5", and 7.25" x 13.5".

hi amelia im new at quilting my question is how do you get the design in ur machine is their a format or usb i have to download
@AmelieScott
@AmelieScott 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nan, These are machine embroidery designs. When you purchase the book, there is a CD in the back of the book. You would need to load the CD into your computer, and then transfer it to a USB drive for you embroidery machine. Our Expansion packs are additional designs that can be purchased, but there are no instructions in those packs, and they can be purchased as downloadable files. The book is just too large a file to offer as a download. I hope that answered your question! --Christine

Hi Nan, Our site is www.ameliescott.com or you can have your local quilt shop get it for you too. Our distributors are Brewer, Checker, or Innovations for Canada for our book. Annie's Craft Store, and Nancy Notion's sells our book too. Annie's Craft store has a video that I made for them last year for sale as well.

great tutorial! i do use embroidery and use 40 wt thread. but understanding this is quilting. and the back of the quilt matters. would love to know what is the weight of your thread and type?

@AmelieScott Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The embroidery thread that I quilt with all the time is a 40wt embroidery. The thread Brands that I use are Floriani, exquisite thread, and Kingstar metallic thread. I use the same thread in the bobbin as well. Magnetic hoops are a game changer for quilting. My Snap Hoop Monsters cut my time in half!!! We have a Core Class coming up in Feb on the 15 & 16. The class in through Byrne Sewing. It is a virtual class over zoom so anyone can sign up.

my first embroidery could only handle small hoops, it just requires more re-hooping. but i am guessing that this wouldn't work well with edge to edge quilting because the design has to repeat in order to align the designs so they appear continuous and for you to do this on smaller hoops would make the designs minute and would take days to embroider. also bear in mind the cost of the larger embroidery machines buys you other things which help immensely such as line-up and scanning facilities so the designs can be aligned with the pieced blocks unless you only make plain quilts.

What machine are you using? I want to do this but don't have an embroidery machine yet. So what machine do you have?
@AmelieScott
@AmelieScott 2 жыл бұрын
I think I am using the BERNINA 880 in this video. When you buy an embroidery machine, the most important thing is to buy is from a good dealership that has lots of classes and support. Most machine shops offer free classes to help you learn your machine. All brands of machines have machines with great features, and they are all slightly different, so definitely do a comparison. You also want the machine dealership to be close by, in case their is some new user error, ad you need some help. :o). I have been sewing and embroidering for years, and just the other day I had to call my shop up and ask the owner, what was going on with my machine. (I had left the single hole throat plate on, and could not figure out why I couldn’t stitch a zig zag stitch. LOL) My dealer is awesome! That is what you want!!!!!!

I have a 6 needle machine and bought your product....my question is, what is the purpose of pulling the bobbin thread up, I have not been able to do that. Thanks,
@AmelieScott
@AmelieScott 9 жыл бұрын
I design for home machines, so things are probably a bit different with the professional models. When quilting, you want to bring the bobbin up to the top along with about 6-8" of the top thread. Then you can pull both threads to the back (when the machine has stopped) tie a tiny quilter's knot and sink the knot into the batting. However, the designs do have tie offs programed at the beginning and the end points. With a quilt, I like the extra protection of an additional knot on the back.

hi, I bought a singer embroidery machine but I think I can only get designs with XXX format. what can i do? your book is what i have been looking for
@AmelieScott
@AmelieScott 8 жыл бұрын
+Beatriz Moser I don't use Singer machines, but customers have contacted us and told us they can read other file formats. Please talk with your dealer or check the manual, about that. When we wrote the book, no Singer machine could handle the size of our designs according to the list we had at the time. That is why we excluded the XXX format off. The latest top of the line singer machines can read a design up to a 10" design, and our smallest design is 5.6" x 9.9" which does not give you much room for connecting. If you can reduce both A & B files 10% you will have better results. I hope this information is helpful.

In this overview, you used Template A for the 1st column of designs. Then, when you moved to the right for the 2nd column, you used Template B. If your quilt is wider and you have to move to the right again for a 3rd, 4th, 5th columns; which Template do you use? Do you alternate B and A as you move to the right?? OR is Template A only used for the 1st column and any columns thereafter one would use Template B ??? Thanks!

Good for you! It also took me a while to figure it out, and even longer to write the book so that people could easily understand my method. (The files are an important part of the method, but there is more to it than just the files.) Now, I also know there are a lot of people out there that do not have the time or patience to digitize. My book and method are great for them.
