I remember thinking to myself a few years ago that the Packers defense would never take that next step until they got a Bobby Wagner-like linebacker and a secondary that can tackle. I think they've finally done both.

One of the names I recall you speaking about allot pre draft so I'm very pleased GB got him! ILB became a primary need when GB let Devondre Campbell walk during this off season. Great to see he shows strong tape defending the run. A run stuffer for GB such a huge need! One of the reasons I've liked McDuffie so much is he has done well with his run defense for GB. Tape looks marvelous! You got me very excited seeing & hearing your evaluation of this guy. You know how I've begged & pleaded for GB to get proved run stuffing specialist for years. I liked this pick when I saw it & now after seeing your review I'm pumped to see him on the field. Absolutely ecstatic with excitement & anticipation to see what Cooper can add to the D! Go Pack Go!

Let's not overlook the brilliance of Gutey by selecting Cooper knowing that he has experience with mobile QBs, especially Daniels in Chicago. Cooper excelled in this environment. He will be the NFC North Nightmare. In Gutey we trust. 💚💛🧀

I would like to see him get stronger in the arms and build mass. 💪🏿 he has the speed and quickness just needs to bulk up. Imo lol 😆

I feel like I saw this two years ago with Quay 😉 "Especially in the read option" you mean something that's not really used in the NFL? Lol Just giving you a hard time Jake. But honestly from reading the tea leaves so to speak I think Quay is going to be the MIKE.

Anyone can look good just looking at his highlights. I watched a game, and E. Cooper got pushed around, was a lazy tackler, and missed tackles.

You think he’ll play Mike? Also what are some concrete differences between a Mike and a Will?

At the very least, I think he gets that opportunity. His processing/tactical attacking skill set works well for it. The flashes of using the length to shed blocks is encouraging. The MIKE traditionally has the green dot, is relaying the play calls, helping get everyone set up, and is primarily involved in the run game. Shedding blocks, getting into correct run fits, and being an enforcer/strong tackler while also being effective in short/intermediate zones. The WILL linebacker is more responsible for coverage, range against the run/screen game to the perimeter.

Makes sense. Also, not sure if a disgruntled departing free agent is the most reliable source, but Devondre Campbell sure made it sound like Quay will be a lot better with a new defensive coordinator.

I’ll be really curious to see if Hafley gives the LBs freedom to play aggressively against the run on early downs. We all talk a lot about who’s who and playing where, but I feel like the position titles are a lot less important than what the coaches are emphasizing with the players. It’ll be fun to keep track of once they start playing.

He absolutely will play Mike. Hes the read and attack player that Quay is not. Will is weakside backer who basically trails the play and keeps backside contain, a role Quay is better suited for. The comparison would be the 49ers' backers. Fred Warner is the Mike and Dre Greenlaw is the Will.

The amount of traffic they see, specifically from Guards and Centers. They have to be able To engage and deconstruct, on top of having the top tier diagnosing of the play as it develops. That’s why it’s hard to find good linebackers. Some are high level IQ guys who either have a hard time with NFL level guards and tackles, or they they might not be athletic enough to actually play what they’re seeing. Or they’re athletic freaks who can’t play fast cause they’re spending to much time focusing on diagnosing play, allowing time for guards, centers to get to them. That’s why the best defenses put the guys they have in positions where they can focus on their strengths. The less time you spend thinking, the more time you spend reacting and playing fast!
