In this video Alejandro and Jorge Vazquez Medina share some wonderful old stories and factory secrets from the 1960’s Manufacturas De Vidrio El Aguila S.A. marbles company from Mexico City.
In this video we explore the vintage prelude to the Vacor De Mexico marbles company, Manufacturas De Vidrio El Aguila S.A.
We are joined once again by generous guests/co-owners from the family business: Alejandro and Jorge Vazquez Medina, along with Mary Vazquez and David Tamulevich. 🟢⚪️ 🔴
Very little was publicly known about El Aguila before the Vazquez Medina family agreed to take part in these interviews. I am very grateful for their time, information and energy!
Manufacturas De Vidrio El Aguila produced colorful, quality toy glass marbles from about 1960 to 1969 in Mexico City, Mexico. The owners: Carlos Vazquez, Jorge Vazquez Medina and Alejandro Vazquez Medina later moved to Guadalajara, Mexico to form the most successful machine-made marbles company in the world : Vacor De Mexico. (1970)
The El Aguila marbles products were available in the market in Mexico and Spain, before breaking into the entire European market. These marbles were not distributed to the United States and Canada.

Stephen, at 3:35 there is the statement that even Atmospheres were manufactured with the rollers using water. This means Atmospheres are MACHINE MADE rather than HANDMADE (which is something I have suspected all along). The popular wisdom is that they were Handmade. Could you give some clarification on this? Thanks

Yes M Martin you are spot-on correct! The glass used in an Atmosphere streamed out of a furnace, was cut by rollers and were further manipulated as they were rolling. I’m not sure how that myth started but we will definitely de-bunk it in the next video. Good eye on your part! 🔴

My “Hats Off” to these gentlemen. They make beautiful marbles and make them so AFFORDABLE! Even Henry Fisher from Vitro admitted their good quality! Vacor’s marketing is GENIUS. Keeps collectors buying each new variety! These are a nice, affordable beginning to get into the hobby.

What a fascinating story, while I’m not sure if I have any of these I do have some 3 color rainbows that are pretty. So were they sold is USA? I bought a collectors off auction fathers and son. I have been sorting and keeping some and selling some on eBay. Thanks for the cute show.

vacor series not my favorite. more interested in examples of marbles from specific makers. and nothing personal but the interviews and dialog with owners is unwatchable and a repetative trainwreck.

Thank you surety for your critique, I appreciate it! Most of my viewers are more interested in the marbles identifications, as they are sizing up their own collections trying to figure out what they have. The videos in this series are more focused on the marble manufacturing and the history of this particular company. It isn’t often we get to talk to owners of a factory from 50 years ago and get their first hand accounts. To me, these videos are some of the most important content I would be able to provide. I don’t often get this type of feedback from viewers so please answer for me : What videos on this channel are your favorites? And thank you for your time.
