Madonna vs. Courtney Love at the MTV VMAs: In 1995 while Madonna was being interviewed by Kurt Loder after the ceremony, an apparently drugged Courtney Love began throwing her cosmetics at him from the sidewalk. Moments later, Love went up to the platform where Madonna and the journalist were standing to relive an old dispute between them. An embarrassed Madonna left minutes later.

I don't think Madonna was trying to act better than Courtney. I mean the girl threw a shoe at her... how else do you want her to react? I agree with you. If anything Madonna was in the right, I don't care what anyone says. She was trying to have an interview and Courtney comes around stumbling..looking totally wasted. I dunno if she was drunk or high...but she was making a total ass of herself. Madonna could've told her to fuck off, but she handled it with class and made the best of an awkward situation. It was supposed to be her interview time, but Courtney decided to hijack it and make it all about her...so how is Courtney in the right about any of this?

I was 21 when this happened. It was giant news. Seeing it now, as a fully formed adult, I think Madonna was just nervous about what insane thing Love might say or do to embarrass her. Although there are moments she was a little mean, she seemed to also have compassion for Courtney Love, who had just lost Kurt Cobain only about a year before this. That hug before she left.. it was like she had another voice in her head saying, “This person is in pain. Be kind, and wish her well”

I was alive then but I was 6/7 years old, but I can tell you the whole vibe of Pluto in Scorpio felt like this ANYWHERE & it was precious, too much intensity & adrenaline or something, it just made everyone crazy but as you can see, all the generations were a little constricted and even if they were insane they couldn’t do as much nor were they allowed, but us kids were having a blast I’m telling you, in 1996 everything changed & even though Pluto in Scorpio started in 1984, it was until around 94/95 when it started being cool, sadly it was the last years of it, & Madonna acting so entitled, little did she know it was the last of her youth for her generation, at least Courtney was living like it was the last days....... btw our version of end to our generation is 2024 guys........ enjoy as much

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling old! When I was in high school all of my friends used to tell me my dad looked like Kurt Loder. Personally, I don't see much resemblance, but coincidentally he was also a huge alcoholic. So maybe they were on to something. MTV was fucking great in the 90s.

I remember seeing this and thought it was hilarious. Two women in different genres of music. I thought Courtney was a mess!! This was during her drug binging days. And Madonna was reigning queen. MTV and the VMAs when it was all about the music, all about the stars - even the non P.C car crashes like Courtney. We have definitely lost so much in society coz of the internet, social media world we live in. Everything is edited, polished and manufactured. There are no real moments anymore, all situations are staged and scripted; a truly awful time to be young. So glad I'm the MTV generation.

I remember watching this and coming to life as it happened. So awkward and so great. Madonna was trying to be a record label mogul and had just signed Alanis Morissette. She also had Prodigy and Candlebox on her label, so it wasn’t a fluke by any means. Good times.

Courtney's one of those rare Century classics. You dont catch it that month perhaps, most prob cringe, or even year, or even a decade or 2 later. But over a Century, you see her true fucking brilliance shining through the whole scene. Well played Angel. I so love how you so fluidly call attention to the circus while marketing yourself and playing into their schemes, but u always have that undercurrent of truth which is great. And all done w humor and wit and rawness. Its a rare spark in todays fake world

Haha I remember watching this live back in the 90’s. It was sooo shocking & funny lol. Now I’m reminiscing old MTV days when there was actually music & these random crazie moments haha, I loved & missed the 90’s. Also liked Real World :-P 90’s was the last good decade of music. Music doesn’t hold the same emotions & meaning like it did in the past. We would be back in school on Monday talking about this & saying “did you see how crazy Courtney Love was on MTV and interrupting Madonna’s interview” hahahah memories *sniff*
