The arrow's reach talisman affects falloff and is very strong on the hammer and spear especially.

The smithscript weapons having higher scaling sadly was a bug and was fixed in the lastest patch

From the moment I got the smithscript hammer and noticed it looked eerily similar to Mjolnir in Norse mythology, I knew I had found the weapon for me. Definitely gonna try this build now.

I enjoy great hammers in the base game, so I thought the Smithscript Hammer was going to be right up my alley, but I find the windup can be quite the commitment and momentum control especially around ledges can be a concern, so I did some further testing and found what I think is a pretty good Smithscript setup. The Smithscript Shield and Axe combo. The shield's weapon skill has some excellent tracking and pretty nice range that doesn't seem to have to the same damage drop off the other weapons do, so while it may not be the strongest weapon skill, it is consistent even from furthest range. It has the potential to distrupt enemy attacks, and if you're close enough and time it right, you can get chip damage off an enemy's head at the release of the weapon and then the actual contact of the skill will hit them the back so it almost acts like a combo; of course if the enemy is too close, you're only getting the release. And then you THROW in the axe and you have quite the pair. You can time the standard strong attack to chain off the shield skill. The charged strong attack obviously doesn't get there as fast but it still hits while the enemy is trying to figure out what hit them. The axe also has a chance to stagger enemies out of their attacks. And you can chuck the axe while jumping so if an enemy gets too close you can punish while jumping back which is something the hammer can't do. The Cirque can do this and definitely has other good qualities but my issues with the Cirque are its throw range isn't great and its charged attack has a low stance so it doesn't seem to handle uneven terrain as well when throwing, whereas the axe has a nice over head throw. So while the Axe may not excel in speed like the Cirque or power like the Hammer, it does strike a nice balance of range (where the Cirque lacks) and mobility (where the Hammer lacks). Combined with the Shield, you've got quite the pair Love the Spear for mounted combat. Dip out of combat, charge the strong attack and then roll back in so that the release is happening right in the enemy's face. If you can get the timing right, its a lot of fun. Uneven terrain is a problem here though because if you get the slightest drop off a rock or something you have to start your charge up again. I like the dagger as an off hand chip damage from distance option. Throw in a couple L1s from distance, if you're lucky you can get a headshot and you're rewarded with the same animation as you'd get with arrows/bolts. Also a lot of fun

Ther Erdsteel dagger in the base game has similar scaling, but only with faith based infusions.

5:24 I wanna add just how strong the cirque’s guard counter attack is- using a shield or the deflect tear and guard countering throws out the cirques and does monstrous damage that can be boosted with the smithing talisman and the curved greatsword talisman

Been using smithscript shield and hammer with prayerful strike. Have a lot of fun with them!

I’ve found that flame art and Sacred weapons scale the same for ar calculation. So if you’re running around in the regular area the sacred holy damage is more convenient for all the undead enemies and ghostflame dragons.

The guard counters are also ranged attacks. At least on the Cirque

I've found the smithscript weapons really fun overall. I ended up killing Red Bear and really liked the look of the iron Rivet armor. After getting the Red Bear Hood and combining it with the iron rivet armor and radahn's greaves and gauntlets, I've effectively made some sort of runaway gladiator who's become a mountain man. The spear being a javelin that can be thrown from horseback, the throwing Axe being a trusy sidearm, the hammer being brought out when you need to bash some unfortunate soldiers chest in, and occasionally using the shield as a boomerang, it's a really fun play style, haven't grabbed the dagger yet but I'll get there As a side note it is so fun just launching people off cliffs with the charged throw on the hammer

Smithscript Daggers can be used from horseback as well, they're great against those obnoxious dragonflies and such. Also, I absolutely adore the Golem Fist smithscript weapon from the golems with it in Taylew's dungeon. It is phenomenal, highly recommend farming that from the golems.

Chakram also does a ranged guard counter, which is pretty cool/unique

I put raptors mist on the 2h hammer and it's my anti-fire-basket stick. (Just use the power to jump fire is 10x easier than jumping, and gets a heavy jump attack every time without fail) I am normally a Frenzy build. So I need something to swap without fire from time to time

dont sleep on the thrown daggers. went through the whole dlc final boss included with those and they can really shart on people. also on the throwing on torrent they allow drive bys on torrent like straight up rat tat tat fast atks that are all ranged on horseback lol

I went for the blood Smithscript hammer because it was fun, but maybe I'll try some of this now xD

It may be a bug, but buff type skills on the mainhand weapon affect the shield throw.

how do you have flame affinity on lions claw?

damage scaling double dip fixed as of update 1.12.3, so damage is way lower and more in line with other affinities - sadly they are for the most part really lackluster...

Is the cirque the only one with a jumping attack?

Personally my favorite is Messmer's spear, which does mention itself as a smithscript weapon! It benefits from the talisman (also from the magma talisman to a lesser degree), has decent overall damage and a KILLER weapon art. I powerstance it with a messmer soldier spear cuz it's (as far as I know) the only dlc great spear that can be infused, and one of the only greatspears in general that can be infused, which I use Flame Spear on. Winged serpent Helm to make their WAs stronger, buff the offhand spear with it's WA, dual weild pokes melt bosses, literally, and Messmer's WA is there for your "Oh shit" button moments.

2200 isnt a lot. I get higher than that with the halbard from 1st enemy in Elden Ring or Malikeths blade and several other weapons in a faith build using holy weapons and many of them can be buffed over 3k

Almost 9 days in and this is the first I'm hearing of these wonky scalings. Literally everybody I've seen who've tested smithscript weapons (even myself) has described them as terrible, including some of the most trusted content creators like Youwy. Good f-ing research Khraze!

Worth noting that this _might_ be a bug, so it may or may not be patched in future. A lot of things seem to be scaling very oddly right now; ashes of war that seem like they should be extremely powerful are very weak, and vice versa. Only time will tell what is intentional and what was a mistake, so if you wanna make a build, strike while the Smithscript iron is hot!

High AR is nice and all but the damage being split two to three ways isnt. Resistances are better against split damage. So this is huge for pve and kinda mid for pvp.

This was nerfed. Gutted. And no unsuable past 5 ft. 67% damage fall off now for the Spear and Hammer ect ect. They were my favorite weapons. Now i cant use them.

Will probably be fixed soon. I don't think it's intended to have FTH/INT have more physical scaling than STR/DEX. 😉

I will say it until i die: Smithscript should have been a new infusion type. Not a very small, kinda meh set of weapons.

I think it's pretty unfortunate that FTH and INT are like 150+ AR stronger than everything else in their weapon class AND compared to other infusions for the same weapon on different builds. I'd understand like 50-75 AR, but this is ridiculous.
