I loved this scene! These actors, playing actors, were SO GOOD! Josh was so worried! Thinking, "Is this the town? The area? The party?! The NATION!?" It all comes back to be Toby's revenge for the "$10/bet Stay quiet prank"

ROFL this was stressing me out on Josh's behalf XD then the reveal!! lol perfect! I love it when the staffers troll each other ;)

yep.. Marla Hooch she is. She probably voted twice, once with the left hand and another with the right hand.

I think this is the funniest scene in the entire series! Remember when voting included punching the box on a cardstock ballot instead of electronic wizardry? Good times.

And then came Election 2000 with Palm Beach County and the dimpled and pregnant chads.
@BradyPostma3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Florida had gone about a decade past the projected life of the voting machines, thereby facing widespread failures from wear such as "hanging chads" and "dimples." This year, I voted by coloring in ovals on a cardstock ballot sent in by mail. It's a good system.

LOL, great practical joke by Toby. Imagine how creative it must have been to think this one up.

spouse and I still use "wrath of the thing from high atop the place" (also "they're all about duty" - from leo to lionel tribey if you need a memory jog. we don't use it about Penzance or musicals. just about any subject people are trying to parse when really, there is no parsing.)

Voting in The US is not as complicated as this scene makes it appear. At least not in California! We get a ballot book with very easy-to-follow instructions on how to vote properly!

Apparently they would have given the election to Vinick if John Spencer (Leo) hadn't died; the writers thought that for Santos to lose the election and Leo would be too much.

Can anyone tell me if that's filmed in the L.A. Downtown Public Library? Becuase I went there once, and it looks very similar to the atrium, and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light... Great scene too - this was the first episode I ever saw! I love the West Wing now!

@ SuperMandelson - Wrong. AV or preferential voting lets people express their real opinion instead of being forced into tactical voting.

I don't think Sorkin would have ever written it that way. I think he would have let Santos lose, and then show the meaning in the tragedy. He never went for the cheap win.

Where is this scene filmed? Is it at a DC metro station?

The television mid-Atlantic region is a lot colder than the real one. Election day is not overcoat weather in DC. And the poor Baltimore detectives in Homicide must have been sweltering under the heavy topcoats they wore in what seemed like every episode. So why do the directors insist on the overcoats? Added gravitas?

That is funny they are so precise about identifying it as the West End Public Library at 24th and L St (though they forget to put in NW) and this llibrary is NOTHING like this....Escalators?? NOT!

God the American voting process sounds like its designed to be a giant headache. Up here in Canada you get a single list and it takes 30 days and costs just over a dollar per person in the country...
@hansviergever9582 жыл бұрын
Not the. One here in Canada in 2021 This one is $20 a person ($610 mil) But it is during the pandemic. That total is the major theme/plank of the opposition Conservative party. The campaign is officially only 36 days since PM Trudeau called the election but strategies and slogans have been around longer than that.

The US is the only country in developed world where its national election isn't standardized. This is the kind of problems you run into if it's not.

Primaries are better than the candidate being chosen in a smoky room by the party leadership. The last three Democratic presidents as well as Obama won by primaries and would not have been selected by the leadership, as well as Reagan and Bush the younger.

He no longer lives in CT, nor do his parents (father died, mother sold the house in CT and moved to FL). So, no, he doesn't vote in CT in Bartlett's 2d election, which this is. ;)

Only in swing states. In most states, following that logic, your vote is a throw-away regardless of what you do.

Beats the US one, where we have to vote tactically instead of who we'd like most. If you vote for a third party in the US, you're just throwing your vote away.
