It’s good where you are they are legit, around here they are dodgy, unlicensed, and have been linked to property break-ins because they drive past every day at different times of day observing when people are home and what vehicles they have then break in when people aren’t home or target them for vehicle theft. So I don’t give them anything any more. It came about when somebody got broken into and they was held at knife point looking for money, jewellery etc in the house... they said to the victim they had been watching them and knew their movements. Then they took the car keys before leaving with intent on coming back for it. They was later identified as a scrap metal person driving around the street, that’s how they was keeping an eye on them.

Great video again Jordan. I have done a few installs where the customer wanted a central control unit. And the method that you took out was a great solution to do exactly that. Some of these electric radiators can be very difficult to understand with programming etc. And especially for the older generation. The last thing you want to be doing is keep going back having to explain how to use it over and over. I find just having a standard radiator on the wall with a programmable thermostat (wireless or even a smart one) would make it so much easier to understand especially if it is something they are used to. I have used many brands, and found so far fahro to be a good radiator for simplicity. It may be just me but iv always considered the best way of keeping any system as simple as possible for the end user. Iv also had to do jobs where they request no central control and all to be individually controlled. So I suppose it's all down to the customers request. Nice tidy job though mate 👍🏼 I once left a cooker outside on a job and the time it took to take the new one into the house and come back out to grab a knife to unwrap it, the old one had gone with noone in sight !

Excellent as usual Jordan, unless you find some exceptionally hard tiles then standard masonry or multi material drill bits are fine. I don't use a hammer drill anymore and just have a drill driver with multi material bits for mounting most things - saves a lot on noise. If I have to drill a large hole or into something very hard I'll get the sds out.

I use the tile bits from Erbauer. Super cheap which is great for how often you actually need them. For marking, whatever I have to hand for most holes and a jab from small screwdriver works well for plasterboard or softish plaster. The marxman tool is great for masonry and deeper holes though. Nice use of the flex ferrrules. For the busbar I usually use the impact to back everything all the way off before I install it, then still using the impact on its lowest setting I tighten the terminals at either end (while holding the MCBs together) then do the middle ones. After I follow up with a torque screwdriver for the proper settings and check visually using my phone but with this sequence I never miss any! I enjoy your EV point installs. I just got back from EVBOX DC charger training in Amsterdam yesterday!

Electric heating in 2019!! I love it when these manufacturers say "they're more efficient than the old ones"... If it's resistive heating, it's resistive heating. Assuming they had no way of installing a gas supply, they'd have been better served ripping the lot out and fitting a heat pump.
@the_real_hislordship
@the_real_hislordship 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, resistive heating is only efficient to a point. But as for gas, I'd rather go with a huge heatpump and central heating, or here in South Africa go for heating/cooling air conditioning. Joburg in the day isn't so cold in winter, normally in the teens with lots of sun. Best thing about summer rainfall is sunny winters 😁

If you replace your gas heating and rads with new electric rads, does anything need to be done to the mains electric, in the way of upgrading anything? I would have thought a house load of these, 3-4 bedder, with 10-15 all electric rads, is going to be quite a power draw at a constant level? Any concerns with that?

I’ve drilled tiles loads of times no issues. Mark hole location, using masonry drill of the required size place on spot, twist the drill chuck and bit Anti clockwise by hand using slight pressure on the drill, this will break the glaze on the tile where the hole is needed and prevent the carbide tip skidding all over when drilling. Use drill in power mode to progress through tile use moderate pressure, give the tool chance to do the job as my old boss used to say. Another tip is to use an engineers automatic center punch set on low to make the glaze breaking start point.

In SA everything is line on top and load on the bottom. So out of RCD with cable to the top of the breakers where you find the busbar. I reckon it's easier to see if it's loose or not in from the top. Circuits out from the bottom just check by tugging on them.

Another great video Jordan 👍 Quite like the look of those rads, I work for a company doing social housing and the housing association request that we fit Dimplex QRads as standard now. For years we have been putting storage heaters in, but recently they decided not to install them anymore. For marking holes, I’m a big fan of the Marxmann myself, but like the look of the one you use. You seemed to be quite lucky with those tiles. I had a job to do a while back fitting a cabinet with light in on a wall with tough solid porcelain tiles. Had 8 holes to drill for the brackets. Started off using a masonry drill bit and the tile bit shaped like an arrow but took me almost half an hour to drill one hole 😩 could not proceed doing that, so nipped down to Screwfix and got an Erbauer diamond tipped drill bit. Was a bit costly at around £19 quid but was money well spent. Went back to the job to try it out and it went through the solid tile In about 1-2 mins. Could not believe how effective it was. Always use this bit now when drilling tiles. Look forward to the next vid

I’m not sure its possible to make an electric heater that isn’t 100% efficient, you’d have to be transmitting the energy into a parallel dimension. The problem with these is not the efficiency it’s the cost of fuel, 15p a kwh for electricity when gas is close to 3p a kWh

30 odd years ago my land lady declared that were were having night stores. The electrician arrived and two days later all was done. 6 rather large night stores. A special timer was fitted to the emersion heater too. He told us that from 12 midnight till 7am that the electricity was considerably cheaper. So before going to bed I set the washing machine, the tumble dryer and the dishwasher all to come on and went to bed. I'm in bed reading and my table lamp went off. Got up to get a new bulb and there were no lights at all. Thinking the fuse may have tripped I went down and into the back room where the fuse board was, there was a terrible smell. I found a torch and opened the cupboard and there was black plastic dripping and it was smoking. I switched the main switch off and called the MEB (Midlands Electricity Board) who came an hour later, it's 2am. by now. They said that although the wiring was all correct and properly done the main cable supplying the house was simply not capable of carrying the load that was put on it and the electrician should have known this and called them. In the end they had to replace the main cable from the house under the road all the way to the end of the road, along with 2 other houses that had also been cut off because the cable had melted under the road. Nearly the whole day was spent with out power. As a foot note I set the timers in future to spaced out the times that things came on.

Normally storage heaters and hot water are on the cheap tariff, Economy 7 or 10 . The remainder of the electricity supply should be on normal rate eletricity using as seperate consumer unit, so the you can use it 24/7, whereas the Economy 7and 10 are only on at certain times, switched on a set times by your electricity supplier. When the power is on it will heat the heaters and the water on a much cheaper rate. Often water tanks are divided so if you use more hotwater, a separate switch can be turned on to heat up additional water but that will use the more expensive rate.
