I think... SOME OF THE BEST Electric cars, are the ones where the electric motor is connected to a proper gearbox... Why? IF the electrc motor is linked to a well programmed ECU you can STILL get a great power curve, and then when you add in you manually changing proper gears you get a WAYYY BETTER driving experience than just a 'Two pedal setup'. I've seen videos of an old Porsche, Karmann Ghia, MG's even a Triumph Spitfire with this electric motor & proper manual gear box setup, and they're BRILLIANT! 👌👍 😎🇬🇧

You should put together a pay-to-watch knowledge base for those of us that might want to do our own projects. EV conversion 101, advanced EV systems, something like that. There are a number of ways to get paid for sharing your knowledge, and always more people looking to learn over the years.

Wow, shades of the Whisper project, lol. I absolutely love your first choice for a customer build!! My longtime friend and I talked about this kind of a project off and on over the past half-year or so. This is the kind of hands-on type of thing that interests both of us, and the car choice is almost precisely what we were thinking of. Looking forward to seeing more about this project, and I am definitely forwarding it to my buddy to get his reaction. Best of luck with sorting some of those parts out. The only good thing is, if there was ever an online version of the manual or any of the literature, it is still floating around, somewhere.

It's easy to make it "running and driving": just remove the wooden plate underneath the steering wheel and it is a nice exercise while driving it around and as a bonus it's extremely environmentally friendly

ha, i've now owned the original versions of three of your electrification projects: a '61 mga (bought used in 1970) , a nisson 300 zx Twin turbo (bought new in 1990). and a 2007 cayman coupe (bought about a year ago), all fantastic cars...what a coincidence!

The hydraulic switch at 4:13 is presumably for the brake system, to provide a "brakes applied" signal to the controller.

My coworker did his MG turned out amazing. Glad to see the original transmission and a hyper 9, hopefully it can take the force. I am looking to use a hyper 9 for my double cab.

That's called a "wing mirror" at 2:45 - "wing" is British for "fender". Fender/wing mounted mirrors were common on older British cars, and required in Japan.

This looks like an ideal first project for your new business! It is a beautiful, classic, European roadster. And there should be no EPA issues with converting an older car. Plus the simpler electrical, and the relatively simple kit should be relatively easy for you to take on (compared to the complex work on the Porsche) even with the lack of available support from the kit's manufacturer. I am excited to watch your progress on this build.

Great choice of motor - that tiny little car definitely doesn’t need a 400 hp Tesla motor. I would guess 120 electric horses will make it twice as fast as its original engine.

Nice build. I'm hoping to see a lot more of these small classics converted to EV on the road. I think Hyper 9s are a great option, but I really wish they would start offering some higher voltage/RPM options. A 300+ V, 10,000+ RPM AC motor-controller kit would make for some very easy conversions with the option for DC charging.

I have seen several Triumph and MG conversions and none of them required require active cooling (Assuming you are only doing sub 25KW charging). They often have a fan for the electronics but no liquid cooling. Also none of them needed boosted brakes. Regen and decent pads up front are all you need.

I think cooling will be primarily for the motor controller

@@ElectricSuperCar I would think putting that where the radiator used to be with a temperature controlled fan would suffice. That is what I have seen on all small car conversions to date... (unless the owner lives in Arizona or somewhere with 100°F average temps...) ;)

Great to hear things are off to a good start. Curious question, with being the builder / installer of the gear, do you have to have any special insurance or protection if the products the customer provides cause or fire or accident?
