I actually have this headcanon that the entire sequel was just a fever dream that Timmy had while fighting pneumonia in the first movie.

It's hard to believe one of the greatest animated movies of all time, and undoubtedly one of Don Bluth's best works, could have such a god awful, illogical, and disrespectful follow-up, especially when it never needed one. MGM were a lot like Disney is now in this respect. Eric Idle is it's only saving grace, and it's not nearly enough.

Can’t you help but feel sorry for Don Bluth being screwed over by MGM? First, they released a presumably meant-to-be direct-to-home media sequel to “All Dogs Go to Heaven” in movie theaters at the last minute back in 1996. And, then, they tarnished his and Mrs. Brisby’s legacy with his young son’s own easily distracted adventure and treating the original as “FAMILY FUN” in 1998. Shame on you, MGM! For shame!

If you saw the first film, Nicodemus died in the attempt to move the brisby house, all to save Timmy. After the house was moved the rats had to clean out all their stuff. There, they could have found a written down prophecy. If Nicodemus had no prophecy about Timmy, he would have not helped some dumb widow save him

It pisses me off that they build him up so much, then chastise him when he does something. Not to mention forcing him to carry on his father’s legacy. It’s all good and well to carry on someone’s legacy, but there’s a difference between carrying on someone else’s legacy and trying to be someone who you’re not. If anything, this movie should have been a “be yourself” story.

On an added note, Martin is a pretty funny villain because he gives me that Yzma style energy but for the 90`s. And Just Say Yes with it`s Elfman-esque beat is quite a bop

ESPECIALLY since Justin, Mr. Ages, and the other rats COMPLETELY WENT AGAINST their very reason for moving to Thorn Valley in the first place, when they brought Timmy along to help them steal from the humans right before they got captured, as they were aiming to live a lifestyle free of thievery! …Yeah, that only makes it feel all the more like this movie was made by people who didn’t watch the first one! And the extra sad thing is that a NIMH sequel is possible to make, as the book ‘Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH’ also had a sequel. But this movie went about making a sequel in ALL THE WRONG WAYS POSSIBLE!

This movie had potential to be honest. While it’s terrible, there’s a good story in it. If the people who made it put more effort into it and actually cared about the source material, we could’ve gotten something decent.

How about a classic review of Mulan 2 where Mushu goes from comic relief that helped the main heroine to a manipulative douchebag who only cares about his job so much, that he tries to ruin Milan’s wedding because he got fired from his job as a result.

Honestly got super excited as I began to hear The Whistle Song while you began hinting at the next review. I can't stress enough just how much Disney's Robin Hood is an absolute favorite of mine (it's one my go-to comfort movies along with Aladdin, Mary Poppins, and the two Muppet movies based off of Treasure Island and Christmas Carol).

Oh god! This is why I am just sticking the original! Thank goodness, we are looking to Disney’s Robin Hood next.

I’m just so happy that I never watched the sequel because I’m not in the mood to watch it, and I’m glad that I did so. The first Secret of NIMH is amazing but why make a sequel almost over a decade later? The first ended on a very high note and it should be stayed as its’ own film like what Balto did. I feel really bad for both of those movies getting the sequel treatment, and both Universal and MGM should learn from it like what Saberspark talked about in his Balto video.

Two of the main things that I liked about this sequel was the voice acting and the songs, For me personally they are pretty much the only things that make this unnecessary sequel worth watching.

What makes me so incredibly mad about this one is that there was an actual sequel book on the original source, MRS FRISBY AND THE RATS OF NIMH. It's called RASCO AND THE RATS OF NIMH, which starts off with Timmy traveling to Thorn Valley for school, and the plot slowly turns to the actual protagonist, Rasco (The Son of Jenner, who's only seen in flashbacks in the book and not really a "villain" as much as a "voter opponent" who secedes from the main rat colony. It's as if the makers of this film sped-read the dust jacket of the sequel and made up something else based on what they could "remember" from that slimming.

I watched this movie on repeat as a kid. It was 2006 I had a CRT TV with a built in VCR and my friends who were moving gave us a bunch of VCRs that they didn’t want (Gee I wonder why) and this was one of the 5 animated ones. We got Secret of Nimh 2, The Chipmunk Adventure, Kikis Delivery Service, Black Cauldron and The King and I animation. As you can imagine I completely forgot everything about the film, every time I tried to remember the film I’d think of The Rescuers and Ferngully. All this to say a lighthearted f you for reminding me of this mess.

Honestly, this review is more entertaining than the movie itself.

Maybe Jenner does make up a pretty good point 👍🏻 to abandoned their plan going to Thorn Valley from everyone becoming unlikable toxic individuals. Seriously that would've make Jenner the hero and make Nicodemus, Jonathan, Mr. Ages and the other rats 🐀 look like villains in general.

To summarize my thoughts on this movie, allow me to quote Miracle Max: "Thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?"

I think the movie could still work with the main idea of the plot...if taken in in a different direction. The first movie was about the mother learning about her husband's role in the rats story. The sequel, hidden under the bore and childish blah, is about the son living up to his fathers heritage. If it was handled differently, the story could be more engaging and even thought provoking. Id keep certain things the same: timmy is older,he wants to prove himself as Johnathan brisbys son, ans he has to go to Nihm...exept the story i would love to see is this: Timmy spends more time with his mother and brother, with the brothers growing close(with martin keeping his rough edges), but he grows up hearing the stories of Johnathan Brisby and how he saved the rats. Timmy would feel inadiquite as hes the son of Johnathan and Mrs.Brisby, who saved the rats...and hes labled as the sonnwho is the crux of his moms mission. And with his mom forbidding him to go to the rats because she believes they deserve their peace. However with the help of Jeremy, Timmy runs away from home to go to thorn Valley to learn of his father's historty. All he has are his fathers stories and legends, but NEVER ACTUALLY KNEW THE REAL JOHNATHAN. During this time, Martin finds out timmy runs away, he tried to travel on foot. Only to be captured in a live trap by Nihmz revieling its still around. Perhaps even background noise of how Nihm is upset about the rats escaping and not being found under the rodebush. Martin actually befriends the two stray cats during this clip after seeing them being hurt. Despite his rough edges, he is still a caring boy. Timmy and the rats still discover the girl mouse and learn about the missing mice. It stays somewhat the same, with the concil admitting they wont help this time because its too dangerous. However when timmy asks about his father to her, she has no clue who hes talking about. Because she was too young to know about johnathan. Timmy, the girl mouse,and Jeremy decide to find Nihm, but half way through their quest (which could involce the great owl) where Brisby had come to find timmy via the owl. This is when the mother tells timmy martin went missing after he ran away. Timmy asks the owl where Nihm is, which reviels The Owl was an experiment of Nihm as well. And he agrees to take timmy to Nihm if he promises to never speak the name around the woods ever again. So timmy gives a goodbye to his mom, mrs brisby tells hin he reninds her so mudh of johnathanz and they go. During this time, Timmy rescues Martin,and finds the mising 6 mice and the strays. Timmy realizes Martin is insanely sick due to the testing, and he needs to take him to mr.ages for medicine. The mice ask Timmy who he is and how he knew where they where. Timmy says hes the sogn of Johnathan brisby, the hero of Thorn Valley. As the rescue goes on, timmy realizss through the mice...johnathan wasnt a macho mouse who knew everything and was incredibly brave. Instead it would cut to the full rescue. How johnathan was an every day mouse, he just had alot of care and love in his heart. He wasnt a legend,he was a good guy in the right place at the right time. Timmy realizes he didnt need to be burly or strong like his brother, or ninble and smart like his mother. Because its not stregnth or smarts that makes great heros, its how much they put on the line for those they love. And with that, he frees the strays,who would of been abandoned by the mice otherwise, and the two help the mice to safety. A fire breaks out in Nihm thanks to Timmy. And they return to thorn valley In thorn valley, another time skip. The mice and rats are reunited once more. Mrs.brisby has retired to thorn valley, helping her children raise their children. It could cut Timmy and his wife talking to his kids, as he writes in a large book. About the true life,death,and liniage of Johnathan Brisby, A mouse, and the rats of Nihm he aided. It would end the series write where it began. It would be a story of Timmy finding his path in life, about what legacy means to someone, how heroes are not supernatural or especially heroic. Heros are those who do the right thing because or their heart. Nihm would be an advisary once again,but not evil. I think THIS script has alot more potential

A Troll in Central Park is more tolerable than this movie.

Don Bluth sequels not made by Bluth always have weird subtitles. Timmy to the rescue, The wisdom of friends, any others I’m forgetting?

This movie made me laugh how bad it was. In fact I remember the studio, Wang productions was responsible for making The animation for the Secret of NIMH 2. In fact Wang productions is the same studio that made the animation for plenty of Animaniacs episodes as well providing animations for the Pinky and the Brain spin off, Taz mania and Looney Tune related media. However they eventually worked on several Direct to Home video features for Disney, Ferngully the magical rescue, All Dogs Go to Heaven a Christmas Carol and in the early 2000’s provided the animation for the Land Before Time sequels. Edit: I should also mention because of how much cash these Direct to Home Video sequels churned out animation director Bunis Yang (Who was the animation director for the Secret of Nimh 2, Ferngully 2 the Magical Rescue and Land before Time sequels from the years 2000-2007) formed his own 2D animation studio called BV animation where he would produce Direct to Home Media animation's based on popular characters. This lead to Wang Production's renaming their production company as Brilliant Animation Studio's.

Only best part in the film, Eric Idle as Martin and the 'Just Say Yes' song but aside from that, It can burn in Hell for all I care.

The Secret of NIMH need to return as a true sequel to bring Elizabeth Brisby to be a protagonist again. My story idea is Mrs. Brisby having a dream of her deceased husband who believe he still alive. A mysterious rat who enter her dream and telling her that Jonathan was alive and being capture by the organization rats called the Ratnest who lived in the White Rosebush castle. Mrs. Brisby must go to find her husband alone, but she is not alone, she have her two new friends who also are looking for there missing friend in the White Rosebush. But they must be careful cuz the Ratnest has sent there creature they create, called Dark Rodents to capture Mrs. Brisby and the amulet who believe that she is the key of all the amulet to conquer world of darkness. Many interesting characters, villains and bit creepy experience, having locked up in a Rosebush castle, that happens to be in middle of a forest that happens to be crawling with Dark Rodents and the Rosebush you're even isn't safe it's roaming with Dark Rodents.

Like Nostalgia Critic said too, the thing Timmy ended up saving the residents of Thorn Valley from wouldn't even be a threat if they didn't play favorites. It ended up being a self fulfilling prophecy. And come on, give Mrs. Brisby a statue too alongside her son!

I heard Ralph Macchio in an interview say he's never done a bad movie..... Okay, I guess he blocked this one from his memory then 😂😂

On a side note, I think it’s only a matter of time before AniMat comes around to review “Charlotte’s Web 2: Wilbur’s Grand Adventure”, a similarly terrible sequel that suffers from just about all of the same problems as NIMH 2, but sadly doesn’t have Eric Idle to provide anything numerous or slightly entertaining in the midst of that crapfest!

Now try to imagine you are born in the early 90s, and your first exposure to The Secret of NIMH is that direct-to-video sequel instead of the first film. That is me. I never found out about the first Secret of NIMH until it aired on TV back in 2008 or 2009. It was shockingly different to the Timmy To The Rescue. I still have the copy of a VCD of the sequel but it was a very terrible transfer as the one I got had some incomplete animation, and unfinished stills and backgrounds.

I remember seeing a copy of this movie on DVD at a local store over a decade ago, and I simply walked right past it.

I remember that I watched this movie when I was little without watching or knowing about The Secret of NIMH's existence, and even when I was little, I found the movie confusing to follow on its own and uninteresting and after seeing the Secret of NIMH, I was shocked by how different the two movies were and how the first movie was way better. It's also crazy but sad that this was one of the first voice-acting roles of Hynden Walch and Ralph Macchio and I personally feel bad for Ralph as I can tell he tries to put his heart into it, even if means singing pretty badly, but it still ends up really bad. Same for Hynden, as this was one of her first roles and I think it was stupid that one of her breakthrough roles was by having her angelic voice wasted with this unwatchable pile of goo. I'm so glad she's been getting better roles, such as Starfire from Teen Titans.

This definitely comes across more as hilariously bad as an adult than it did as a kid. Ralph Macchio (yes, Daniel LaRusso himself) has unquestionably bad line deliveries, but they're all so unintentionally funny because he sounds so unsure about what the director's want but he has to do this job for his kids. This was a really good review, Mat. I'm definitely gonna rewatch it with friends or family XD

❤️💖 If I can honest, I loved the original animated film directed by Don Bluth and I hated the sequel and I regretted watching this movie 🎬 part of my childhood. I despises the story, the animation, the characters and the juvenile childish tone. I will never considered this sequel as canon. I would rather watched the Land Before Time sequels over the Secret of Nimh 2 any day! If Don Bluth directed the sequel, he stated he would've stated that he would've made Martin the hero but make Timmy the villain. That would've been interesting twist and future idea that would've make one of the protagonists kids a villain. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️
