FILM DESCRIPTION:
Queen Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) faces threats to her rule from abroad and at home. Determined to restore England to Roman Catholicism, Spain's King Philip II dispatches his armada. Sworn to her country body and soul, Elizabeth must resist her love for charismatic seafarer Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen) and watch as he and her handmaiden grow closer. Finally, trusted adviser Walsingham (Geoffrey Rush) uncovers a plot involving her cousin Mary Stuart.

Raleigh was a pirate I think he knew what he was doing when he was given the command to defeat the Spanish armada for the Queen alongside Sir Francis Drake

Raleigh wasn't part of the armada. I don't know why they included him in the file it was Howard and Francis drake. Raleigh was in the next armada in the later 1500s this story is not dealing a full deck

Walter was not in the Spanish Armada. I don’t know why they included him in the film it was Howard and Francis drake that lead. Walter was Spanish Armada 2 on the Irish Sea

What I can't figure out is, where was Raleigh swimming off to? I mean, he'd just jumped off a burning ship in the midst of the Spanish Armada in a stormy English Channel at night. Where could he go? Amsterdam?

The english ships DID fight the armada at sea. And not a single spanish ship was lost. The "defeat" of the Armada was because the duke of alba was weeks away from reaching the dutch coast. The armada were merely transport ships. And because of this disastrous scheduling error the spanish decided to head back to spain. Still without a single ship lost. It is on the return journey around the scottish and irish coasts that dozens of galleons were lost to the weather. And the surviving sailors hacked to pieces by the scots loyal to the protestant cause. 40+ ships made its way back to Spain while the whole battle came down in history as england's victory over the spanish. But it was the spanish alone who defeated themselves with an over complicated invasion plan.

I just find it disturbing that all those people were killed for nothing. No country should invade any other country. Peace on earth for all people of the world.
