Elk are majestic and beautiful animals and I want to live side by side with them happily, but they ate my garden three times last year! I'm sure there is a remedy and I hope someone knows some great ways to deter them without any cruelty. Last year I put up a whole circus tent of surveying tape after destruction number three, which seemed to help, but it looked hideous and it also tangled me as I tended the garden. This year I put some "Irish Spring" soap shavings around the perimeter of the garden. The jury is still out on that hack. Please include any ideas you may have in the comment section! I really appreciate it! Welcome to messy me and my messy garden as I prep for Spring and hope for more success this year as I live off grid with nature.

SO frustrating!! 😢💔 Hopefully, you'll have enough solutions to keep them from destroying everything, this year! 👍👍👍 🙏❤️

Thank you Kim! The elk have certainly made gardening challenging! I’m determined to make it work though ☺️ I’ll keep you posted on all of the crazy ideas I am going to try 😅 Thanks for visiting lovely lady! 💕💐💕

Try fish emulsion fertilizer. That keeps the deer and others away from my sister's garden all together, and its a great fertilizer. I introduced her to the benefits of it a year ago and she loves it

I haven’t heard of that remedy Mark. Thank you! It’s certainly worth a try, and if nothing else it is great fertilizer! I know it’s fairly stinky and I wonder if attracts bears? So kind of you to offer your suggestion! Have a great weekend! 😊🌷

Thanks Jack! Dakota chased an elk one day, but came running back with the elk chasing him! 😅 He’s such a good dog even if the gardens suffer the odd dug out ☺️ Thank you Jack!

I’m so sorry this happened to you. What a disappointment to have all your invested time ,hard work, and money disappear overnight. I wish I could offer some help but I’ve no experience with anything like this. Sounds like you have some good ideas,a place to start anyway. Sure makes the deer eating my petunias last year seem rather trite! Take care and stay safe.❤❤

Losing prized petunias is no fun either Pam! It’s strange what the four legged friends (or maybe foes ☺️) like to eat! Thank you so much for paying a visit! It’s always a pleasure to hear from you 💕🌷💕

What the elk! Fortunately I don't have the wild garden pests of central and North America, so I can't really offer much help. There is a meshy type cover you can get that goes over frame work for raised gardens, however your garden is not raised so you will have to improvise. I'm not sure if you can access PVC tubing (20-25mm) which is usually white for water or orange for wiring (conduit pipe) , at certain lengths they can bent into arc shaping for netting or other covering to be draped over to protect vegetables. Your garden was looking good, looks like you've been a busy beaver, must have been the spa 😂

Lol! Hi Rob! We have big elk and you have big snakes and spiders!! 😂 No one seems exempt from some sort of critters! I can access tubing and I’m thinking of chicken wire covers for some beds that are vulnerable. They are just such strong animals and some of them have big antlers! 😅 If they want something yummy, they seem to have no barriers that they can’t master. I’m hoping that me jumping up and down and telling them to go away last year is engraved in their minds. Maybe they’ll want to avoid the crazy lady! Lol! Maybe a Debbie scarecrow 🤣 I could use a spa day today by the way! Spring is hectic! Enjoy your day! Thanks for your input! 😊💐

I have coyotes, white tail and weasels. What about a mid level trip string with some sort of bells, noise rattling set up? Idk.🤔

Hi Betsy! I saw an article suggesting chimes and shiny whirly wigs. The dollar store probably has them in stock now so it’s worth a try. It may look like another circus operation! Lol! The trip line is interesting, but I don’t want to hurt them. I just want them to detour to the wildflowers and clover…,apparently they didn’t get the memo! 😅 Are you ok sunshine? I haven’t seen any new videos from you lately. I know it Tis the season to be busy! I hope your renovations are going well 💕🤗💐

hi Debbie I was thinking , upside down hanging tomato plants in 5gallon buckets, you would still have to enclose the plants in a wire mesh shelter, I did this a few years ago to save room in the garden, and less pests, but in your case it may help the elk eat more. hope you find a solution.

Hi Jimmy! I think upside down hanging plants in the little greenhouse may work to save room on the ground for peppers and other warm loving plants. Thanks for the tip! I knew I’d get some great ideas from asking 😊 Have a great new week! 💐

The only thing that ever worked here in West Virginia is a free range dog that stays out all night . But you have too many big animals there .

Hello Tony! Yes, the large herds are no match for poop old Dakota on his own. I would love to get another husky one day to help Dakota out and give him a friend. There’s been some great suggestions so far and I’m certainly going to research the fish emulsion method that Mark suggested in the comments. Thanks so much for being here! It’s so awesome that our G+ gang is still in touch after all of these years! 😊💐

How about a wide border of the things they don't like...like the lavender and other flowers you mentioned?? Fake predators in the gardens?? Have an elevated garden that you hang from the trees on pulley's????? Build a deck above your rv with the gardens on that?? Tell Dakota to give them a stern talk about how that's not nice what they're doing and they need to leave?? I'm just full of great ideas, aren't I!?!?!? 😂😂 I'm sorry that's happened to you! All that hard work and then no harvest except carrots to eat. Tall, wire fences won't block your view.... I guess it has to come down to what's more important...feeding you or the wildlife? 🤷‍♀️. Let us know what you do for a solution!

You win the most creative suggestions award Orlene! Lol! Brilliant! I have transplanted many undesirable plants to the outer edges. Hipefully it will mask the yummy stuff that they love to eat. I’ll keep you posted! Thanks for all of the ideas! 🫶💐
