One of the greatest vocals ever laid down. There are many stories out there from famous people who were around when this first hit the UK, it stopped people in their tracks and literally changed the world. Elvis had just turned 21 when he recorded it. It still sounds just as amazing 68 years later. Incredible.

Well, since my baby left me Well, I found a new place to dwell Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street At Heartbreak Hotel Where I'll be--where I get so lonely, baby Well, I'm so lonely I get so lonely, I could die Although it's always crowded You still can find some room For broken-hearted lovers To cry there in the gloom And be so, where they'll be so lonely, baby Well, they're so lonely They'll be so lonely, they could die Well, the bellhop's tears keep flowin' And the desk clerk's dressed in black Well, they've been so long on Lonely Street Well, they'll never, they'll never get back And they'll be so, where they'll be so lonely, baby Well, they're so lonely They'll be so lonely, they could die Well now, if your baby leaves you And you have a sad tale to tell Just take a walk down Lonely Street To Heartbreak Hotel And you will be, you will be, you will be lonely, baby You'll be so lonely You'll be so lonely, you could die Well, though it's always crowded You still can find some room For broken-hearted lovers To cry there in the gloom And they'll be so, they'll be so lonely, baby They'll be so lonely They'll be so lonely, they could die

On this day in Music - 27 Jan 1956 Elvis Presley's single, 'Heartbreak Hotel' was released by RCA Records, who had just purchased Presley's contract from Sun Records for $35,000. The song sold 300,000 copies in its first week and would eventually sell over a million, becoming Elvis' first Gold record.

In 1956 at the age of ten I HEARD SOMETHING EXTRORDINARY ! It changed me from a child to an adolescent overnight. It is an experience echoed by so many of my contemporaries in and out of the music business. Elvis Presley singing Heartbreak Hotel. The UK had heard NOTHING like it. Subconsciously that moment must live with me today as I am still singing things like this just for fun. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p82drcyZz8ybeIk.html DL Staffordshire, UK.

This is such a special song. Elvis was innovative with this record. It was written by 2 people who made a demo for an artist to sing it but no one saw potential in that song. Elvis was the only one who loved the record and who knew what he wanted to do with it. He recorded it and they said it sounded totally different from the Demo version. Everyone at the label told Elvis to not put that song out because it was too different from the typical rock and roll sound of the Era but Elvis insisted that this song would change rock and roll. Now it's one of the most famous rock songs and it inspired most of the artists who followed. Paul McCartney always said this song made him become a musician. This is the proof that elvis was amongst the pioneers of rock and roll and was ahead of his time
@tyrannosauruszeppelin2205

Because Elvis decided to record a demo written for him that he changed a little, he was ahead of his time? Just casual rock n' roll. Nothing innovative about the song itself.

@@wormhole331 Yes but the song itself isn't innovative in any way. Musically, lyricically, etc. The song was the starting point for many bands and groups, of which the Beatles are indeed the most significant, but the song itself isn't innovative in any way. John Lennon just liked it and decided he also wanted to do that sort of thing. There were probably countless other songs that he just didn't listen to that would have the same effect on him. This song is not unique or innovative in any way, at least not in a technical manner.
@brandonayong5823

@@tyrannosauruszeppelin2205 that's the point. If any other artist had recorded that song it wouldn't have been anywhere near as influential because there wouldn't have done it that way probably and it's also important to stress that this song sounds very different from what rock music was in 1956

I'm 34. grew up in the "ghetto" and grew up with rap and r&b, which is fine and all but elvis has captivated me since I was a older toddler in 1993. my parents thought I was weird but I think I saw a TV show or documentary when I was a kid. actually, it might have been my grandfather playing Heartbreak Hotel but for whatever reason I organically loved Elvis as a young kid a couple decades almost after he passed. @@parisp2583 I was born in 1950, I remember the milkman delivering milk, television was developing, westerns were very big, I remember putting together model airplanes of the planes that were used in World War Two, when I started first grade in 1956, most of the boys got there backpacks from the army navy store. I went to a Catholic school. Of course we didn’t have the technology we do today, our toys were footballs, baseballs, basketballs,no one in my school played soccer back then. We rode bicycles, flew kites, went trick or treating,had picnics. Most of the big department stores and movie theaters were downtown. Of course we all listened to rock and roll which was developing.We watched I Love Lucy, Gunsmoke, Leave it to Beaver.My best friend lived across the street from our grade school and after school I would go over to his house and we would do our homework and then go back to the school yard and play football until lit started getting dark, and then I would walk home (about 2 miles) feeling very content. We watched a lot of cartoons, old horror movies and the three stooges on tv. Divorced parents were very rare and I think religion played a larger role in people’s lives than it does today.

I’m 60 years old and I’m from Switzerland (Lucerne), I’ve been listening to Elvis since I was 10 years old, I watched Elvis' live concert in Hawaii in 1973. I appreciate many kinds of good music, I also know all the songs of Johnny Cash and June Carter (Great) and other great artists. However, Elvis remains the greatest musician and entertainer of all time, but in all his songs, all the power of his soul comes out. One could also say that he gave his whole heart to his listeners. This way is definitely unique and I think it will remain so. Denis Herger

Heartbreak Hotel (my interpretation of this exact version after detailed examination): Well, since my baby left me, Well, I found a new place to dwell. Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street At Heartbreak Hotel, Where I'll be-- I'll be getting so lonely, baby. Well, I'm so lonely. I'll be so lonely, I could die. Although it's always crowded, You still can find some room For broken-hearted lovers To cry there in the gloom And be so-- they get so lonely, baby. Well, they get so lonely. Oh, they're so lonely, they could die. Now, the bellhop's tears keep flowin', And the desk clerk's dressed in black. Well, they've been so long on Lonely Street, They'll never, they'll never look back, And they get so, and they get so lonely, baby. Well, they're so lonely. Well, they're so lonely, they could die. Well now, if your baby leaves ya, And you've gotta tale to tell, Well, just take a walk down Lonely Street To Heartbreak Hotel, Where you will be-- you could be getting so lonely, baby, Where you will be lonely. You'll be so lonely, you could die. Oh, although it's always crowded, You still can find some room For broken-hearted lovers To cry there in the gloom, And they'll get so-- and they'll be getting so lonely, baby. Well, they're so lonely. They'll be so lonely, they could die.

On this day in 1956 {May 25th} Elvis Presley performed in concert at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan... At the time his "Heartbreak Hotel" was at #1 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, Best Sellers in Store chart, and Most Played by Jockeys chart... In addition he had four more records on the Top 100; "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" {at #19}, "My Baby Left Me" {at #34}, "I Was The One" {at #67}, and "Blue Suede Shoes" {at #68}... And on Billboard's all three country charts, Best Sellers, Most Played in Juke Boxes, Most Played by Jockeys, it was in the #1 position... Plus on Billboard's Best Selling R&B Records in Stores chart it was at #7... Across the pond, it was at #14 on the United Kingdom's Official Top 30 Singles chart...

because if someone makes a song that sounds like this one right here they'll get copyrighted, also, new generations might not like songs that sound like this, music is always changing you know, just because you like something else you can't just say the other thing is trash, just ask someone who listens to modern music (not me but like someone else), they'll tell you what they think about music, everyone has different perspectives, if you dislike something then that's fine, that's your opinion, but you can't force your opinion onto other people because that's just wrong, modern music is bad to us, but to others it's amazing, music isn't just one thing, it's many, and that's why it's great, because you can do anything with music, you could make a christmas song, a commercial jingle, a pop, rock, classical, or whatever music genre type song that you'd like to, and that, my friends, concludes my short audio book on how music is many things at once,
