Man, I stayed away from emby for too long, it really is better especially for iOS users. I definitely would love for Jellyfin to resolve all these issues, but it just isn’t up to par yet.

If you are willing to pay for Emby, there is no reason to go with Jellyfin or Plex. Emby just works, and works very well.

I have a grandfathered lifetime license for Emby and I’m really impressed by how well it’s improved.

I came to the same conclusion with you after two weeks tinkering with Jellyfin. Ended up deleting JF. As you said, there is always something wrong that you need to spend time researching how to fix it. On the other hand, Emby really just works and much much faster than Jellyfin.

Yeah I tried Jellyfin for a few days, then moved to Emby. Night and day difference, even with having to pay. It's worth it.

There is an app for iOS, but not specifically Apple TV (which is what I was referencing here) since most people will be wanting to watch it on their TV. However, there does seem to be an unofficial alternative called Swiftfin I did not catch during my tests since it’s lesser known and a different name.

Also Infuse can be used for Jellyfin client on Apple TV.

I try Jellifin about every 6 months to find out if it can replace Plex for me - but it is ..... still very unstable. Just tried it on my Unraid machine - after I added DVR (HDhomerun) with schedulesdirect, the startup of the docker takes 2 minutes. Even though I assigned the channels correctly, the channel logos are mixed up (also tried to refresh the EPG - no change) Playback of LiveTV just ails (player in an infinite loading loop) with the jellyfin server stating in the log that the audio is not supported. Initial launch of a video with HW transcoding (nvenc) works fine: But switching encoding profiles hangs jellyfin - with no error in the log -playback will not restart - WebGUI does not load when stuck - docker restart required. Bottomline - my experience with jellyfin shows that it is not ready for prime time. So.... Plex it still is for me. 😕

Infuse has a lifetime option, which is very pricey, but maybe worth it in the long run. Playing videos from cloud services works flawless on iOS devices at least.
