As and Arsenal fan the more I read into Emery's history, success at previous clubs and training methods, the more optimistic I am about the announcement. As you said it's pretty much the best we could have hoped for, and definitely Emery is a better coach than Arteta. I got used to a thought that Mikel would become our manager but this is clearly a more responsible option and a known quantity. I'm pretty certain that Emery is going to be an improvement over Wenger and it's the first time in ages I'm actually excited for the transfer window, the next season and even friendlies. We have to give him time but I think Emery at Arsenal will be a success, hopefully we will compete for a title in 2/3 years.

Emery has never beaten Pep or Mourinho because he's only ever faced Pep's Barca (Xavi, Iniesta, Messi) and Mourinho's Real Madrid (Ronaldo, Kaka, Alonso) really no shame in losing to those teams. Especially when managing Sevilla and Valencia on a shoestring budget and managing 5 draws against two managers that had teams full of Ballon Dor nominees for the last 10 years almost.

I am really happy with this appointment and I am excited for the future. I am also really happy about how the club is being run now as Gazidis, Sanlehi and Mslintat are effectively controlling the club. Quite literally we don't have a manager anymore and only have a head coach. I think this will suite Emery as he can focus on the football and not have to focus on transfers and finances, however he will still have an input which is still good.

He does speak English, he done his first pres conference in English. Granted he wasn't very good at it.

I would probably have preferred an elite-level manager like Allegri or even Ancelotti, but after we were so heavily linked with Arteta for so long, I'm relieved we went with Emery instead. He's a winner, he demands 100% from every single player, and he is meticulous in the details, which is the type of manager we need right now. He's got a few blips on his managerial record, but they're only small blips - losing the league to that fantastic Monaco side (by 1 point) isn't as bad as everyone is making out, especially considering Monaco also got to the CL semis that year. He seems like a classy man as well, a fitting successor to Wenger. I am much happier with Emery than I would've been with Arteta or Vieira, and I'm actually really excited for the upcoming season now! COYG

I'm actually quite happy with this appointment because he comes with experience and is a winner and hes managed at big clubs and big players before and he is meticulous in his tactical approach which is what we've needed!

Hey Spence, good vid, disagree on your Allegri point. Why did Klopp go to Liverpool when they finished 7th? Or Mourinho to Utd when they finished 5th? Simple. Massive rebuild challenge at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also, Allegri could have doubled his pay-packet at Arsenal. However, I'm still happy with Emery :)

Emery is a great appointment! But spencer despite our poor last couple of seasons, we still have the top notch players and are still one of the best clubs in england. I feel that his appointment will give the players a boost and his orginization and attention to detais will sort out the defensive issues that we have had. I do not believe it will be as difficult as you make it seem to get back into the top 4. Yes all the other big 5 clubs in the league will go out and spend and improve. but we have the quality in our team, we just need to go sort out a few positions (goalkeeper, another cb, and proper cdm. if we have the extra money then a winger) I know those 3/4 signings will be hard to get with our boards lack of wanting to spend big, but if we can impove those spots and with the players we already have we could do bits next year ( i dont mean winning things, that would be nice, but just competing again)

Stop disregarding the mls, it’s not the premier league but it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be and vieira has done a great job at nycfc, Steven gerrard himself said the league is harder than he thought and vieira has excelled coaching there and shouldn’t be considered in the same category as managing a reserve team

Emery is a solid appointment, did bits with a top 6 side in Spain (Sevilla) so can translate to a top 6 side in England, doubt he’ll be winning any titles in the coming years but should get them on the right tracks.

I agree with some but disagree with a lot of what you just said... we had the power to sign a world class player like aubayemang and lacazete Ozil etc... we are a massive club and could tempt pretty much anyone apart from Real Madrid Barcelona and yes possibly juventus, but the way you made it sound as if we was a small club like West Ham, we have a great structure and mislentat etc are masterminds in what they do, I think he will do great things here I predict us to finish 3rd and win the Europa league and next season push for the league when the board sees he’s doing successful, and we are not doing as bad as everyone says we have only finished above the top three for three years while still achieving a final a fa cup champions and a semi final in Europe that’s a lot more than spurs who everyone says is doing so well! People use to laugh at us for top 4 now everyone loves it while we “ do bad “ and still win trophies

yh alot of us talked ourself into wanting Arteta and now i think most are coming round to Emery, im really happy that were changing structure, im happy we are going to have a manager who is far more tactically detailed and demanding than Wenger in recent years. The matches against Pep have been real tactical chess games he can present more of a challenge to him that Wenger im sure... I think Emery is a fantastic appointment for Arsenal. It's great to go after a really promising and somewhat proven younger head coach. I think it's important to note that he's a head coach, and not a manager. Arsenal surely are changing their structure from the old Fergie/Wenger "manager" role, to what most of the teams are using now. That's likely why Allegri, or Ancelloti, was not really considered I believe. Luis Enrique might have been priced out, but I think Emery definitely sounds a great appointment, coming as a Liverpool fan.

That journalism piece you referenced made him sound so much like AVB - the endless DVD's, temperamental personality, the self indulgent team talks - you need a certain group of players to not rebel against a manager like that (Chelsea fans know this all to well). It would've underwhelmed me if I was an Arsenal fan tbh. His track record is very up and down, for every good accomplishment he has (e.g. winning three Europa's on the spin), there's something else which detracts from it (e.g. not winning a single away game through an entire La Liga season). Good luck to him but you get the sense he might be punching slightly above his weight here, but I guess that depends how attractive you perceive the Arsenal job to be.

I thought they should have tried to get Leonardo Jardim (from Monaco, with his record of developing youth and tactical skill), but I'm sure that Emery will do well.

That article passage is surely redundant 10 years on. He was speaking to players who, let’s be honest, aren’t the high quality of the prem and Arsenal. He needed to grill the players and show them the same stuff over and over because they weren’t good enough to know themselves. Arsenal don’t need to worry about the bad stuff because they are full of smart, hard working professionals and can look forward to all the good stuff that has developed with PSG over the past couple of years

I really hope Emery will start off by making changes in the defence, since that's where the biggest problem is in my opinion. What to change? I dont have a clue since both Koscielny and Mustafi are great defenders, and we have Bellerin who is a great player, Kolasinac? not sure.
