My mother bought a Columbia records album of this piece with Emil Gilels when I was 9 years old. I literally played it every single day from grade school through college. It was the only way I could study. His magnificent interpretation of this piece is so far beyond any I have ever heard. His music is hardwired into my soul. We moved into a fifth wheel a few years back and that same album is now in storage I miss it. What a joy to find this on KZfaq. It was a different orchestra but the same Gilels.

Потрясающее исполнение!У Гилельса каждый звук - правда, эмоционально пережитый!Никаких стилеввх штампов, всё и благородно, и мужественно и гьубоко лирично. Низкий поклон гению...

Знаю, что после затихания оркестра (в начале концерта) вот-вот грянет это мощное сфорцандо, и всё равно каждый раз вздрагиваю от неожиданности... Великолепный и неподражаемый.

Иногда в жизни происходят поразительные вещи! Только что, переслушивала этот концерт в исполнении Галины ЧерниСтефанска. В комментариях читаю ,что лучше могли быть Рубинштейн и Розина Левин. Первое ,что пришло в голову ,что лучший это Гилельс для меня .... и вдруг буквально через мгновенье появилась эта ссылка. Волшебство.

Одно из лучших исполнений высочайшего шедевра музыки 19в. Звуки рояля словно слетают с небес...

He sits supreme in his interpretation of this piece. He adds color, finesse and a commanding touch that is unequaled. What a tragedy we lost this man so early. I've listened to this recording over a thousand times over the years and it makes me believe in beauty and the possibilities of human grace and achievement. So unimaginably beautiful.

Without doubt one of the greatest classical pianists of all time. His Brahms piano are second to none, and this is brilliant too. Thank you so much for uploading.

He lived a satisfied life with his only wife from the beginning to the end. He played piano concerts with his very accomplished daughter and also his sister. Won in his life time the most important awards in the world of classical piano.

Indeed Gelil is outstanding in every category and exceptional dynamics, clarity of tone and etc,

from Jose' "Timo" Sepulveda.........how marvelous to listen again to the great Russian "People's Artist" Emil Gilels......a Titan to be sure. The Soviet Union did not repress all of it's magnificent artists when it was still extant.......Gilels is one of the greatest (and yes I DO know that "greatest" implies the superlative degree!)........he is a towering figure in the array of great Soviet/Russian who have graced this planet.

So much caughing and noise in the back ground that it destroys this great performance. I have to say that Kissin's version however is much more captivating, romantic and elequent with story telling.
